"We can never predict; I mean we just try to build good games and then we tend to be surprised. Portal 2 did better on the PC than it did on the consoles; Left 4 Dead did better on the consoles than it did on the PC. So you know we don't try to guess, because we're not sure what value there is to guessing. We've never had a situation where we said, "We really, really want to build something that is more popular for the console guys." Because usually we have a bunch of other higher priority problems we want to solve. So we're glad that people want to play our games wherever they want to play."

Bu-bu-but the piracy and the death of PC.

If done right, every game can succeed on the PC.

People with a PC / PS3 would probably buy whichever copy is cheapest. I would.

Why would we? The PC version is cheaper than the PS3 version, and who's actually going to play both versions?

A lot of console players just rented the game. After you play it once there is little reason to replay a puzzle game like portal.

Consoles are only for exclusives ... everything else is better on PC ... so why pay more to get a version that would never get used?

But not for us PC gamers, we are letting Valve now that its ok for them to re use the same engine over and over again. Those guys will never work on new technology.

Not if you resold the PS3 copy. I guess it didn't get around to enough people that you could do that.

but what is the point of spending more money for a ps3&pc copy if you are only going to play it on pc? it makes more sense to spend less for the one youre actually going to use

The more interesting thing here is that consoles actually outsold the pc for Left for dead?? That definitely surprised me.

Maybe in inital sales but how many console players are still playing L4D? PC gamers are still playing them due to the massive amount of user generated content available.

Didnt portal 2 on PS3 come out during the PSN outage? I thought people had trouble activating it or something or other. Also why would someone without a PS3 buy the PS3 version instead of just the PC

Cool for Valve. It just goes to show that any game can do well on any system. It has more to do with potential market than which has more systems in the hands of consumers blah blah blah.

Finding any games?

Campaing Coop - 12 matches going
Mutation - 7 matches going
Realism - 11 matches going
Versus - 9 matches going
Realism Versus - 4 matches going
Survival - 18 matches going
Scavenger - 10 matches going

It's 10:30 am where I am and that's what is going right now. If you are having trouble finding games then it's you, not the game.

I haven't played it in a while, but for months, consistently, I was being put into lobbies that were barely filled and oft times had to play with numerous bots.

I'm not saying the PC version is better, as I haven't played that in forever, so I wouldn't know. Also, to be fair, that certainly is not a lot of matches, and there is no indication as to how full they are.

They are all matches in progress. Hence why I said "matches going". I didn't count the lobbies. You said you have trouble finding ANY games. I just wanted to show otherwise.

Maybe I should have clarified, but I didn't mean literally "any", as that would be kind of stupid. There were obviously matches in progress, though they were nowhere near full. I will load it up in a few minutes to determine.

Wow hasn't changed much when I use to play it on 360. I never lost a game of Versus on 360.

On a side note; interesting on the PC verision outselling both the 360 and PS3 verisions combinded.

Go for it. :) Everyone knows there are more servers on PC. I'm just trying to show simply that there are more than enough on 360 to play on on a regular basis. And this is at 10:30 in the morning on a weekday, when most are either at school or working. If I weren't on shift work I would be working as well. Apparently the 360 version sold more than the PC which I find hard to believe but apparently is true according to the article.

Did you think I was attacking the 360 version from a pro-PC standpoint? Regardless, I was only putting forth my viewpoint. I don't doubt there are still enough games to play, I was simply stating that it certainly was a ***** finding some when I started playing on the 360. The amount of games that weren't full got frustrating and forced me to stop playing. If there are more full games now, then sweet, cos i've been wanting to get the achievements for the game :P

Not at all. Just noticed that you said that it was difficult to find games. Didn't think you were attacking it. I've owned since almost right after launch and have never had trouble. So I don't know, maybe it has to do with region. I've never had an issue with playing in non full games. Usually they fill up pretty quick from my experience with the 360 version.

Good, good. I was just hoping there was no miscommunication :P

Holy ****, I just got into a full campaign game on it. There were only 12 games, so it was limited, but at least there were some Expert campaigns going :P

Thanks for telling me, as I always avoided picking it back up, but now I can get back into some L4D2, whoot!

Well, like I said, redeem the code and you can turn around and sell the PS3 copy. I think the net amount I paid to get the game on PC was $15, which was way cheaper than what it was on Steam at the time (or now).

So, you can actually do this, can you?

I was under the assumption that Valve would come up with some system of stopping people doing that. If it turns out they didn't, then I'm very surprised.

I mean, surely they must have foreseen people doing that? It took about 10 seconds after them announcing it for people to start saying they were going to do it.

I got it on PC because it was cheaper and I can't think of a time I'd ever rather play a first person game on console. Like, ever.

Well, like I said, redeem the code and you can turn around and sell the PS3 copy. I think the net amount I paid to get the game on PC was $15, which was way cheaper than what it was on Steam at the time (or now).

I guess they couldn't think of a way to prevent it that wouldn't be hugely inconvenient and/or block used sales entirely.

It probably wasn't a major concern for them, because you're still buying a version of the game. All it means is that someone else gets the game used, which would have happened anyway.
