Portal 2 = GOTY

I think Portal 2 deserves game of they year. Its the most polished, fun, gratifying, solo and co op experience of the year. When going through contenders i can think of weaknesses for every other contender. For example Skyrim is a glitchy mess, Arkham City was disjointed and didn't know if it wanted to be a linear or open world game, Uncharted 3 was great but more of the same, Zelda won't get goty here and i haven't played it. Battlefield 3 has terrible singleplayer. Modern Warfare 3 sucks. AC Revalation is more of the same. LA Noire was repetitive and too long imo. Deus Ex i haven't played but is probably not goty contender. Dark Souls maybe has a darkhorse chance but its not my type of game.

Portal 2 is the only game i played this year that i have no complaints about, i enjoyed it thoroughly, its a unique experience and the polish Valve put on it is insane. My Goty, hopefully it doesn't get overlooked. My runner up is Dead Space 2, no complaints about that game either, just liked Portal 2 better.

Skyrim 360/PC

I enjoyed the first 4 hours or so then it got to the point I just wanted it to end ... felt like it just dragged for awhile.

No, 5.5h SP no replayability unless you wanna speed run.

Nah.It has good dialogues and voice acting,but that's it.

The campaign is pretty short and the puzzles are easy.

Nah I thought Portal 2 was even more boring then the first one, oh and I'm sorry but the whole "the cake is a lie" thing was NEVER funny, ever. I don't know why people always thought it was. As of now I will say Skyrim is GOTY and yes I have it on PS3, and no I don't have any issues yet even with a big save file and over 50 hours in. That might just be me though, that being said I have to say that Batman Arkham City is looking REAL good, even though I don't have the game yet. I can just tell....

Portal 2 is certainly a strong contender, along with Arkham City.

My biggest problem with Portal 2 is how its MP has zero replayability. The campaign, however, was one of the best I've ever played.

It is in my book. Although, I have to admit that I haven't played Arkham City yet.

Memorable characters, cool puzzles and a level of polish that other games should strive for.

Portal 2 should get a GOTY award imo. The story and dialogue were so well written, combined with completely unique game play. One of the best campaigns I have ever played.DeX2010

I agree Portal 2 is an almost perfectly made game and really does deserve GOTY. And this is coming from someone who is totally addicted to Skyrim right now.

It's pretty doubtful it will win though, at least on this site. Which will more than likely try to show how edgy it is and pick something like Dark Souls.

I agree, its the game this year that borderlined perfect in everything it offered... I actually have another reason why it excelled in so many ways but I doubt it will be appreciated on this board... here goes...

Portal 2's gameplay never hamstrung the player...

Games have become bigger in scope and production and I am all for that... for example, skyrim and portal are just not comparable where skyrim is so massive and so varried and portal is this power packed nugget of awesome sauce, but where portal shines as the GOTY for me is that the controls dont insist upon themselves... their crystal clear perfect, tight and precise. ie, you do what you mean to do... they dont glitch, they dont freak out, they dont have a mind of their own.

When I play Uncharted or gears and even batman I often lose immersion based on the character controls losing me a bit with some wonky repsonses to my intentions... Uncharted is a prime example of this in many gun fights as well as the parkour style wall crawling... Batman as well. With Portal it just feels so good... like Im always moving forward and always in absolute control.

Don't get me wrong, I love every game mentioned in this post, and yes im nit picking a little, but hey we're talking about GOTY here, but Portal 2 was the best game this year... it told a clever story with pristene gameplay, untouchable coop (arguably the best this generation) a fantastic ending and the sense that from front to back you were playing a game that could only be achieved at this point in the generation... that's my take.
