This was the Final Fantasy XIII-esque annoucement for the PS3.
Gonna be so good with the PSN, and make the 360 version look like total garbage!

Mass Effect going over to the PS3 was a much bigger deal. Portal was on the PS3, why is it such a big deal that it's sequel is too?

Not really. Believe it or not, a multiplatform game going to another platform is not that big.

:o How dare you consider the PC version.
Eh not really. That was speculated a lot more the Portal 2 coming to the PS3.Mass Effect going over to the PS3 was a much bigger deal. Portal was on the PS3, why is it such a big deal that it's sequel is too?

Once again, Portal was on the PS3, why is it that big of a deal if the sequel is too? If L4D went over to the PS3, that would be a big deal.
Remember when Gabe announced Portal 2 with Steam features for PS3? SW was like "cool" to "meh". When Mass Effect 2 and 3 were confirmed for PS3 fanboys went nuts and it spawned threads with hundreds of posts overnight. Hell, there's still an active sticky with 700 posts made specifically to control the madness that came from the announcement.
You're way off on this one.

Meanwhile, the PC version makes the PS3 version look like total garbage. I would think your post count and the fact that your lvl 63 on gamespot, tho may be true by the words you speak. I still would of assumed you knew better.Sure, but PS3 is getting the "superior" version. Not really. Believe it or not, a multiplatform game going to another platform is not that big.

no matter how much people deny it mass effect 2 going to ps3 was a megaton, people were so sure it wouldnttastetheacidmil
Neither are megatons, since neither were exclusive games o begin with. For comparison, these announcements have nothing on FF13 going multiplat.

How does them being multiplat invalidate their megaton status? Since when was a megaton simply an excluisve going multiplat? Can't it even be hardware, or a feature, or a price drop, or a simple annoucement? If people think ME2/Portal2 going to ps3 was a megaton, even though it was already a multiplat, they need to refer to the final fantasy 13 announcement
The Portal 2 announcement wasn't significant because it was coming to PS3, the Portal 2 announcement was significant because it was about Valve developing directly for the PS3, Gabe Newell eating humble pie, and a massive about face in the attitude towards the PS3.
The Mass Effect 2 announcement wasn't significant purely because Mass Effect 2 was coming to PS3, but also because it meant that in all likelihood Mass Effect 3 was coming to PS3, eliminating both a current advantage in the near future, and a future advantage to owning a 360.

Well I guess wasn't Portal 2 coming to the PS3 more than Valve developing directly for the PS3. On ME2, i guess it was just me. I told my friend like month after it came out that it was coming to PS3.

campzor
that says a lot about this year doesn't it.....my point still stands
Nothing comes close to the FF13 multiplatform announcement. Hell even Mass Effect 2 going to the PS3 was more of a bang lol.
Why would it be the megaton...the PS3 already had the Orange box which had Portal on it. It's not like Portal was ever exclusive. After how crappy the OB port was I was expecting Valve to want to do Portal 2 for the PS3 themselves. Valve does care about it's quality. The only real shocker I saw was that Gabe himself made the announcement.
Bungie and Insomniac going multi-platform were probably bigger surprises. Although i doubt too many third party developers will stay exclusive any more.

I hope the 360 version comment did not strike a nerve. I agree PC beats all.
I thought cows hated valve and/or were going to get the "superior" version on their PC.
I don't even think ME2 was a megaton because there were rumors going around for almost a year for a PS3 port, and the game was already multi-plat. Plus PS3 users are getting the gimped version with no ME1.
Seems odd that multiplat announcements are "megatons" for PS3 gamers.
Guess multiplats really are important.
considering the damage control in system wars the day it was announced...ye it was a megaton.. and bioware will deal with us ps3 owners who didnt get the chance to play the 1st with some introduction/database thing from what i heard...I thought cows hated valve and/or were going to get the "superior" version on their PC.

what?
The ME series was exclusive at one time or another.
and that Portal 1 was on the PS3:?

People damage controlling and overreacting in SW? This is unheard of... :P Yeah, I highly suggest playing the first one before jumping into the second. Even though you're missing out on a big feature like the import save, a short video isn't going to do the original game justice.I thought cows hated valve and/or were going to get the "superior" version on their PC.

EA ported the orange Box over to the PS3 (very poorly I might add), including Portal (actually the best port in the collection).
Ea didn't express interest in porting anymore valve games for the PS3, so it looked like Portal 2 would not be PS3 bound.
you know what the best part is, all the discussions about wether we should consider PC/X360 games console exclusive or not had ended, now lemmings are just giving away all the console exclsuive stuff, they dun wanna it anymore,ME2 is multi and who cares, Portal 2 is multi and we dun care.
Actually the anouncment of Portal 2 itself isn't that big but Gabe Newel on Sony's stage was the real megaton.

I have the Orange box for the ps3 and portal runs and looks fine...I think FF 13 going to 360 was alot bigger. however, FF 13 turned out to be garbage on 360.
XboximusPrime
Because it had sub-720p resolutions?

Certainly not garbage by any stretch. The game still looked and ran great, but just not on par with the PS3 version (sub-HD gameplay, 720p CGI).
There were differences but nothing game-breaking.
