What I'd like to see system wars sort out is this.

What game was really a great value for all the content you got?

What game did you pay your money up front for, then just spend countless hours playing, and replaying? Exploring every nook and cranny, playing through all the options, enjoying online play, whatever it was that hooked you for so long.

This can be any game from any series or genre, however, I would like to exclude MMO's because of the play-for-pay, and/or they are designed to be time sinks.

So what say you system wars? What game gave you the most gametime from your money.

I'll lead off with my personal nomination :

Diablo 2

The only game I can think of that ended up being truly valuable to me was C&C: Renegade. Its online gameplay kept me coming back for over three years. Too bad the singleplayer campaign blew.

As for future games, I think The Orange Box goes without saying. Halo 3 also looks loaded with content.

I would say for me it was Halo 2. Almost three years in I still play it alot.

As for the majority, I think the Orange Box is a no brainer.

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. I bought it at a garage sale for $2.00, and I've found hours of entertainment in that game. The fact that you can accelerate to the limits of your PC IN REVERSE, yet stop in a second by releasing the back key, the ability to drive straight through all obstacles, drive straight up 90 degree hills, and make hairpin turns is unusually entertaining. Combine that with possibly the greatest victory screen EVAR "YOU'RE WINNER!", and that was the most fun I've ever had on a non-freeware/sharewaregame under $10.00.

Probably either Unreal Tournament 1999 or 2004. So many great mods for those games that it's almost ridiculous. Some of those mods(notably Red Orchestra)have even moved on to become standalone games! Second up would be Battlefield 1942. Again, many great mods to be had. Third would be Half-Life 2, though I considered placing it second just because of Garry's Mod. Fourth would be Operation Flashpoint: Elite(though I'm sure the PC version would be even more replayable). Sharing custom co-op missions with your friends and trying to complete them can be quite addictive if you find a good little group to play with. (I wonder if Crysis will join these titles in terms of replayability and mods...I can't wait to get my hands on that sandbox editor, that's for sure.)

Easy for me it's Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I've never logged nearly as many hours on any other game and every one of them was time well spent.

Halo 2- Dominated XBOX live until Gears of War came out to take over, thats not lasting long oh by the way
Smash Bros. Melee- um pretty much was the reason why alot of gamers had the gamecube.
Starcraft-1998 and its still played to death.
CounterStrike-once again, old beyond belief but played to death.

I'm gonna say that Half Life Platinum Pack I bought years ago. It had: Half Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Counter Strike, Team Fortress Classis. Not to mention after getting this you had access to hundreds of mods including full games such as they hunger, the specialist, and many more. The kicker was that I remember this only cost 40 bucks. Best value ever, bar none.

This one:

Baldur's Gate 2: Ultimate Collection (Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal)

Baldurs Gate 2 and its x-pack, Throne of Bhaal. Epic.

While its true I spent more time with D2 than any game ever (over 4 years!), this Collection is even higher quality, and that makes up for it.

...and at Amazon.com it costs less than $10 BRAND NEW! Anyone who doesnt have this but has even a passing interest in WRPG's needs to get this.

Skies of Arcadia (4 times through, over 200 hours) and Halo 2 (don't even wanna think about how many hours). C&C Red Alert also comes to mind.

EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot to mention, for some reason my Skies of Arcadia cost $80, I bought it a few months after the PS2 came out, and for some strange reason the store charged me more for it.

For me, recently it was COD2. The SP game lasted me a while, especially on Veteran, and then I played the MP for about 8 months solid for HOURS a day. That was the most justified $60.00 I've spent this gen.
