Poll Predict the future of Concord! (39 votes)
I think it's DOA. Thoughts?

Not a fan of games with only PvP but to me people seem tired of hero shooters and extraction shooters. Not sure if Marvel Rivals is going to do well either.
Those seem like maybe a PvP MP mode that supports a single player/co-op game and not the entire game.
DOA.
Not really into these kind of games that much but if I do play something like this then I’d rather play Marvel Rivals because it actually has characters that I’m interested in.
Also, this kind of game should have been out like 10 years ago as when it was a great time to get excited for PvP games such as Concord, and having pretty cutscenes doesn't make the game interesting now in today's standard. There are just too many shooters PvP as it is. To me, this is Guardians Walmart of the Galaxy if you catch my drift.
So again, this is DOA! Battleborn, LawBreakers, and now Concord will no doubt join the rest of DOA list.
But in any case, I'll try the beta but my expectations on this are very low.
I watched the trailer from SoP. I have no idea what the hook is supposed to be 🤷🏻♂️. Why play this game over any of the other similar ones? What’s the cool standout feature?
Flashy trailer, but gameplay... I guess what matters is people play it in the end. Guess we'll see. But being 5v5 online, it'll need a player base to keep it active or it dies, that goes without saying.

Its a live service... By design it existence is a marriage between trying to be fun and also spend more money within the game. The things you do, see and have the opportunity to interact with will be tied to the continuation of you spending more money or grinding it out.
In short, there won't be a standout feature. They are saying in the face of a much loathed gaming model that you'll need more of this.
I personally can't get excited for another hero shooter. Maybe it'll do better than Battleborn at least. I don't know
It didn't only look bad, but the absolute bottom of the barrel when it comes to shooters. Everything what's wrong with gaming is in this game. Seeing a company trying their hardest to create characters with their own personality (which btw is always the same jokester-like personalities that don't take anything seriously a la guardians of the galaxy. And this is the same in every single game that relies on selling character specific skins) so you get attached to them and spend thousands of dollars on their skins makes me kinda annoyed. I want this game to bomb, everyone fired, and studio closed. Yes, i want them gone. Forget about the game doing poorly like Halo Infinite, i want the studio to be shut down, that's where i am at with these Microtransaction Stores sold to you as a video game. **** em. You wanted to create a product from the grounds up to milk gamers? You don't deserve to survive in this industry. I'll make sure to spread as much negativity toward this Microtransaction Store as i can😊This is the new Ubisoft/Skull n Bones/Suicide Squad.

I went to grab some milk.
Not my kind of game but I look forward to it being a success and y'all being super mad about it.
Lol, don't worry... it won't be.
It's hard to say.
Conceptually, it's certainly derivative but you never truly know how well a live service game will be received until folks get their hands on it. There's just too many unknowns still.

Show me a single live service game that was received like that, and ended up being good, loved by gamers and profitable.
I just watched the trailer again this game will bomb and take the studio with it. Actually their best bet is they become a floater support studio for Sony's other Bellevue studios like Bungie or Sucker Punch.
@hardwenzen:
Why does the initial reception of a live service game matter?
There's been plenty of "good" live service games that fail and then plenty of others that should have for all accounts been shut down but have turned out great.
Again, we won't really know where this game could go until people get their hands on it. Or at the very least a gameplay deep dive.
I really enjoyed Battleborn when it came out. It's unfortunate it didn't last. But as for this current game, it'll be DOA. It looks generic, looks like every other MP game we currently have on the market. These aren't new statements that have been made against Concord. But who knows.

initial reception matters to any game, live service or not. A game that launches in a trash state will stay "trash" to the majority of people, no matter how much work was put into fixing the title years after launch. CP2077 is a good example of this, and Diablo 4 is another, a more recent one.
This Concord dumpster looks like a ps360/wiiu game that was supposed to come out in 2012, they canned it, tried to launch it on phones, phones weren't powerful enough back then, the project was frozen for ages, and now they decided to shit it on a popular system in hopes people buy it.
Asking for a deep dive is like wanting a deep dive for The Day Before, Suicide Squad or Skull N Bones before they were released. Unless you want to deep dive into a pile of shit, you stay far away from diving, deep or shallow.
This game has zero chances of succeeding. Its a guaranteed face plantage, closure of the studio and that's that. Hell, i should already make a thread about the closure of the studio a year in advance🤣
Yeah this will fail.
It's not even a matter of it being good or bad, it's just more of the same in an already saturated market.
It would have to be a genre-redefining addition in order to gain any sort of foothold, and then have a degree of support equivelent to a Blizzard game (which, say what you will about Blizzard these days, but Blizzard games are some of the most well-supported and community-focused games in existence).
The odds of the above happening from a company like Sony, that hasn't really done a whole lot in years, is highly unlikely.
Also, Firewalk Studios hasn't done anything. They've been around since 2018 and have some industry veterans but it's been six years and all they have to show for it is they've somehow managed to make it through COVID intact only to not release anything in six years *shrug*
@hardwenzen: Hey bud, glad to see you're ok. And to your point, you are correct. This is like a team of mad scientists assembled to see if they could take all of the crap ideas from the past decade, and make the most unwanted game possible.*Spoiler Alert* they did.
I just don't understand. The trailer was lame, but it was functional, and had some semblance of a story/world. But what's the point, if you're never going to experience any of that in the game? It's insane.

Sorry but, I don't agree with this. It's honestly hilarious that you choose CP2077 of all games considering they had two major updates and Phantom Liberty that made it into one of the better RPGs of recent times and has continued to sell well.
A *perfect* example is XDEFIANT. People said the exact same things and then they played the beta. It ended up having a successful launch and is well on it's way to becoming a big hit for Ubisoft.
People are just overly negative about live service games, period. They see terms like "live service", "hero shooter" etc. and call it a day when none of those things are inherently bad. If it's not your cup of tea, fine, that's OK but people need to stop acting like people don't like these games because they do.
@Nonstop-Madness: Honestly, I'm hoping the next Hogwarts Legacy game will be live-service, and implement multiplayer, or even make it an mmorpg. It's Hogwarts, we need real people. LOL.

No, CP2077 is the perfect example. You and many others might consider it as a "saved game", but the perception of this whole IP is still super negative. Back when the expansion was coming out, and every gaming site was covering it like crazy, read the comments section, and you see how much hate that game was still getting, and its not by fixing what was supposed to be functional on day one that everyone will all of a sudden forget what they've done. With the social media being as big as it is, the reveal of the game is insanely important. If its poorly received (look at Suicide Squad reveal. even after they announced the game being semi-reworked, and delayed by a year, you think people gave it a chance? No. Everyone trolled it into the ground because the first showcase was pathetic) the day it was announced, the game will fail, and absolutely bullied on twitter and youtube. No Sony's PR will save it. Remember Lawbreakers from Cliffy B? This is Concord of 2024. When it bombs hard, i'll try to remember to remind you that, well, i told you so.
And i don't know where you've seen Xdefiant being that big success. The game is extremely buggy, the servers are a complete mess and i hear the jumping while shooting is ridiculous. Just look at the official reddit, the game is in a super messy state. And what exactly did they bring to the table with this game? Nothing. Its just yet another arena shooter cod gunplay, but inferior, and with a much smaller playerbase.
@PSP107: I think Concord is PvP while Suicide Squad is PvE.
Even more importantly, one is released and the other is not ;)

CP2077 was objectively "saved". The game has basically doubled its sales numbers and, revenue since it's awful release.
Revenue breakdown:
The perception of a game studio and IP *CAN* improve. I'm not sure why you continue to contest that when there's multiple examples of it being true.
Here's another nugget ... successful games can have broken parts. XDEFIANT is off to strong start regardless of its technical issues. Can they fix server issues? Yes. Can they fix hitboxes? Yes. Can they fix weapon leveling? Yes. Can this game get better? Yeah, why not.
Going back to my first point, nobody can for sure say whether or not a live service game will be successful in the long term because if we did, we'd have way more of them. The best one can hope is that people get their hands on it and like it. The rest of it is up the devs to continue to deliver improvements and that can happen regardless of the initial reception.
@Nonstop-Madness: The launch of CP2077 hasn't only damaged the IP, one of the most hyped games i've personally seen (probably only surpassed by GTA6), but pay attention at their next title, and when they unveil it. Guaranteed to receive a lot of negativity because they lied about their last game, and released a literal scam on consoles. It'll take some time for them to regain trust they used to have before CP2077 launch. And lets not forget, this is CDPR that we're talking about, they've only messed up once, nor was it an obnoxious mtx heavy title created to milk their dedicated fans. All they need to do is released TW4 in good state, and then one quality dlc like Blood And Wine, and they'll be back at being praised as one of the best around. What i am saying is that they have it much easier than some no name developer like whom is developing Concord. If Rocksteady got clapped for their Live Service, i can only imagine what will happen to the Concord developer.
And i still don't see where you're getting Xdefiant being successful. All i hear about this thing is how many issues it has, and most importantly, those issues been in their betas for over a year. What the hell is the point of having playtests when you're not changing anything?
Weird for folks to claim it is DOA when we all know that Sony nurtures studios and never forces them to make specific games.🙃
You could argue that was the case under Sean Layden.
This studio was made to make a live service game and it will flop miserably.
It's hard to say for sure but with Marvel Rivals and Multiversus also in the running its not looking good. The game looks like a superhero rip off and Rivals has the IPs on their side.
