1. Cave Story 3D

This game is obscure to say the least. I'm aware many people, including me, have played some form of Cave Story, and I bet that most of them don't know of this games existance. And to be honest, I really am not fond of this game whatsoever. The 3-D graphics look cheap and completely take away the charm that the art style that ever other version of the game had. For a whopping $40.00, your money is better spent elsewhere. It doesn't surprise me that this game was met with rather underwhelmhing sales, most people that even KNOW about Cave Story have already experienced it for free or roughly 1/4 the price of this...game. I may just buy this for poops and giggles.

2. Nintendo Selects - Pikmin 2

How many of you actually knew that Pikmin 2 was finally released for the Wii in the US? Ever since launch, tracking down this game has been hard not only for me, but for many others. At it's current NEW retail price of $20, this is a steal especially if you haven't played Pikmin 2. Most people seem to have luck with finding this at Best Buy for some reason. But anyways, Nintendo released this game VERY quietly, and roughly six months before the launch of the Wii U! It's safe to say that production of this gem will cease rather soon. I was very tempted to buy two copies, it's such a steal and it so blatantly will go up in value in no time. Look at third party sellers on ebay etc, 95% of them are selling this game new for $30 and this game ALREADY hasn't been out for longer than a week!

Not many non-Wii/DS games are going to be rare because of DD.

I'm planning to pick up Pikmin 2 tomorrow if my local Walmart has a copy. I haven't played the original game but I do have a friend's Gamecube copy so I'll play that after Luigi's Mansion, then play Pikmin 2 with the better controls. :P

Otherwise... I'm not sure. It's kind of difficult to judge, really. Xenoblade and The Last Story will probably be rare in th eUS after a while. But other games... it's hard to say.

Like I said, Best Buy is your best bet, at least in most cases, good luck;) and I can easily see those two becoming rare, but I honestly have absolutely zero interest for said titles, I'm not too big on JRPGs.

True true. I have a copy of Beautiful Katamari in solid condition, yet ever since it was put up on XBL, it's value plummeted.

Completely disagree, paying $20 for such an old game is ridiculous. If I can get games like Just Cause 2 for less than $4, I don't think it's too much to ask for them to price it at $10.

Xenoblade, Radiant Historia, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter. Which is a shame because all three of them are great.

nintendo's batch of JRPGs for the wii. that's really all i can think that might reach collector status, and even then that's a stretch.

If it's just the cartridge it probably gets you $20-30. But if it's with the box it's worth a bit more. Now if you had a SEALED copy it goes up exponentially.

I went through this with my SNES games, and I was wishing I had kept more of the retail boxes in pristine shape. Too bad as a kid I wasn't really well disciplined at keeping everything organized like I do now. I let many of the cardboard outer boxes get crushed in storage or I just flat out lost them over the years. :( Although at least the cartridges and manuals remained in mint condition. I went ahead and sold them because I figure over time I would be more likely to lose them or damage them than to ever play them again. So might as well take all the value I could get now.

pretty sure i threw away all those boxes. cardboard boxes are a pain to keep, especially empty ones (no way i was storing all those SNES games on their boxes. i have shoeboxes for that!)

I don't see any of those being "rare" because they printed alot of copies. Stores had to practically give away Valkyria Chronicles and Vanquish (and actually they are probably still in stock at certain places). If you paid $25 for any of them, in 10 years you'd be lucky if they were "semi-rare" and still actually worth $25. Niche games usually have small print runs, and disappear in mere months. The only thing that brings down their value is when they do "second pressings". Which happens all the time. There were a bunch of Atlus JRPG's on PS2 that were going for $50 secondhand, then all of a sudden (and completely out of the blue) there was a repressing listed on Amazon for all of them for $19.99. This was as recent as the last couple of years Now once the repressing is gone maybe the value goes back up, but overall doing that obviously knocks the rarity down a significant notch.

Such is the nature of optical DVD discs. It's not nearly the same thing as the old days with cartridges.

Yeah. I actually had alot of them. I had about 30 games and maybe 20 with boxes. But litereally only a handful I would call in "like new" shape with sharp corners and everything. Some of them were smashed up pretty good, so they added no value. It's really only the sealed new games that seem to be astronomical values anyway, and I certainly didn't have any of those.

360 exclusives are already rare, so I would say Xenoblade and The Last Story on the Wii.

Why would I tell you what games are going to be rare? I want those rare games for MESELF.

But, on a serious note you're probably going to have to wait like a decade before any of today's games become "rare".

I think I might have to buy this Pikmin 2. I never played any of the Pikmins. I am also looking forward to Pikmin 3.

Metroid Prime Trilogy already is hard to find in good condition, and I would imagine the same will eventually happen to the 25th Anniversary edition of Super Mario All-Stars.

I can actually see Eternal Sonata become rare, never gave it a shot though, looks like a chore to play. It looks solid though.

Most limited edition versions of new games that have come out that have extra content on the disc. Like Medal of Honor (2010) Limited Edition with Frontline.

Revelations with AC1, etc.

Also probably crappy games nobody bought? Or games people didn't hear about. I agree with Mindjack I think I've seen that game once now.

GracesPersonaWKC

One thing I'm happy about is that because I bought these games asap, and already pre-ordered Persona 4 Arena, I won't have to deal with the struggle of looking for copies of these games years from now.

I pre-ordered Tales of Graces f, I got my copy on release day, and the guy at the store told me they were sold out of the game. The only copies they got on release day were the copies that people pre-ordered. Damn, I didn't think the Tales series was that unpopular that they weren't expecting to sell any more than just a few pre-orders.

One of the Recent Tales games will be quite rare.

Possibly Xenoblade and The Last Story probably too.
