After the crap Gearbox put out do you really think anyone should trust any of these ****ers anymore?  Or do you think they should be the ones who need to earn our trust, and not just dangling little things in front of us that would of once have been simple unlockables?   I personally think they should have to prove they have a good product  before taking my money.  We've gotten to the point where they're starting to have preorders for preorders and this isn't sending the right message, as it leads to games like Duke Nukum Forever selling well even tho it was a pile of ****.  And really why make a high quality game when you can just put out a pile of **** and make just as much at 1/3rd the cost?

I only Pre-order CE's but it's always easy just to move the money to a different title if I want.

Preordering anything only made sense when you knew there wasn't going to be any available on the day of launch. If you wanted it at launch you have to preorder or you were out of luck. Its almost a guarantee that without a preorder you can purchase said game on launch day. Its just another way for stores like Gamestop to gaurantee a sale for themselves. So what they do is add their own DLC to preorders to justify the preorder. Really a preorder is for a die hard fan who is just excited about the game. Thats pretty much all they are now. Unless there is some cool limited edition version of the release, but even then there are plenty of limited edition versions of games that are still available well after release, so really its all a way for the stores to guarantee themselves a sale.

I don't preorder because I believe it promotes laziness. If a dev gets a big preorder, they know they are going to make their money and don't see a reason to improve the game beyond what it already is.

I agree. I am never impressed with the little DLCs the retailers throw in.

I'll wait until reviews. Even if I am a huge fan of a franchise, I won't buy it unless it is generally thought of as being worth the money.

The only games I do pre-order are Japanese games. On PC, I guess I pre-purchase from time to time, but that isn't really pre-order, since I already bought it.

You just have to be careful, like anything else. I don't believe I'll be giving money to gearbox for a long time. However, if I didn't preorder Fire Emblem, I still wouldn't have a copy. And it's one of the best i've played in a long time.

Yeah but now publishers have found a way around this by releasing fake demos and holding off giving game for reviews until they're already out.

A situation where someone may feel "prescrewed" would be in the sence of them having the money to pre-order it today let's say to expect to play it in a month or so, mean while, they later say that the release is being delayed, (GTA V). Now, you are s.o.l because you just spent $60 on a pre order you planed to play sooner than the delay, and can't utilize those $60 spent! Hey, times are rough for some people, this person could of needed that money for anything, maybe an emergency comes up. Personally, I stay away from pre-orders, as someone stated above, it's only a way to guarentee store's sales numbers.

review embargo's need to be done away with entirely. It guarantees' favorable reviews in most cases just based on Site hits and free swag alone.

It's time the industry grows up.

I only pre-order if there are benefits to it, like items, dlc and such, for example I preordered Crysis because I'll get 20 dollars off my next amazon purchase.

Yeah and if you're a smart consumer you'll look at reviews on launch day rather than being a blind idiot who will run out and buy it. Yeah pre-orders are rough. But you can always cancel them. You have to remember we're a very small portion of a community that is smarter than the average gamer who just runs out and buys it.

I did that with Rage. Once I learned it was nearly unplayable at launch I cancelled my pre order and ended up nto buying it until it was $10 on a steam sale. Glad I didn't get it at $60 since I only ended up playing it for 2 hours.

You can always cancel or return the game so I will continue to pre-order if there is DLC or other bonuse that I want. I got min art book for pre-ordering Tomb Raider from Amazon. Got $20 off of Tomb Raider by pre-ordering Dead Space 3.

I only do pre-orders these days if I´m interested in the collectors edition, otherwise I don´t bother, especially if it´s digital because I don´t have to worry about stock that way,and I barely buy games at launch these days anyway.

You guys are being babies. You can cancel pre-orders. Most reviews are out before the game releases so it really shouldn't be a problem for an educated consumer to decide. I usually don't buy games on day one except for the games that I can't wait for. For example, I preordered GTA V and got $20 worth of MS points. hummer700
Actually that's the whole problem, Reviews that have embargoes to the point it will be too late to cancel preorders, and fake demos. I'm pretty sure a lot of people couldn't wait for that Aliens Colonial Marines after playing that fake demo and it being made by Gear Box, but here we are.

I think most people can, but if it's bad looking they fool themselves into thinking the full game will be better. I did that with AC III, everything had me wrorried building up to release but I still bought it and the end result was what I feared.

That's a bit much and depends on what kind of DLC it is. Extra weapons and costumes, sure. Large story based DLC? No. But a discount would be cool. They really need to work on better discounts.

so? you have a choice, cancel it, wait for reviews, or pick up the game regardless, even if the games been out for a week you can cancel your pre order some of you guys should be more informed then this, its sad really just cause you pre order does not mean your signing a paper saying its final purchase, why do you guys think it is?

Exactly, but I must add that some people have actually got their money back off of steam saying that they made a mistake, if steam sees you have not played any of it there is a good chance they will refund you via steam wallet

Actually, most online game stores (Steam included) allow you to cancel pre-orders with no questions asked, and Steam frequently tends to give out refunds for games that turn out to be ****.

Anyway, if you pre-ordered Aliens: Colonial Marines, you've only got yourself to blame. Pre-orders can be great purchases (especially when they're in the $30 range or under on the PC, plus bonuses), but you have to be smart about your purchases.  A little research can go a long way towards not getting burned.

I personally never preorder games. But if I were to preorder, it would have to be a game from a a well respected and dependable company, or a sequel to a well reviewed game. Sure every now and then you run into games like Devil May Cry 2 which suck a lot of butt despite the original being awesome (hence why i dont pre-order) but its a fair enough gamble. In general, I try to avoid pre-ordering.
