Is it me or are games going up even more when new for both Console and especially PC. New origin games on amazon now between £54,99 to £62,99 just for normal edition. I don't see these coming down after time too as there origin only titles but steam games are also creeping up. A lot of games what are going up are more for PC then consoles. I can remember when PC games where a lot cheaper but now can be even more.

What a joke this industry is and this is going to bite back at them at some point. What you think.

Games are less expensive. I remember my parents paying 75usd for Mike Tyson's punch out. I paid 89 for lunar on the Sens CD in 94. Now adjust for inflation and complain when standard edition games are that much

Between GCU taking 20% off every game and most games going on sale for $40 within a couple months I'm not spending that much on games these days.

PC games have gone up from 49.99 to 59.99, which is the console price, and I always imagined PC price was lower because companies didn't have to pay console royalties.

Console games have gone up from 59.99 to 69.99, which just completely baffles me. Last gen prices were already high at 60, now I don't purchase games anymore at 70.

Wii U games were 39.99 and 49.99 last gen, and now switch games are 59.99 and even 69.99 on the eshop. It makes me not want to buy games and not want to buy a Switch.

Just buy games at a discount. There are sales, pre-order and launch discounts, and cheap games on key sites always. You only pay full price if you choose to. Also, don't buy games at launch if you are not going to play them right away. If you have a decent backlog, by the time you are able to play a particular game, it will probably be a lot cheaper.

Never pay above £39.99, and that's generally only on games that have a strong chance of being excellent.

PES is trying to charge £54.99 on Steam, feel sorry for any poor sod dropping that.

@NathanDrakeSwag: Word. I finally bit the bullet for GCU a few months ago. Paid for itself quickly.

I'm shopping sales more often and I have access to cheaper games at launch if I can't hold out (due to GCU and Prime.) If anything, game prices have gotten considerably cheaper than ever for me.

Not sure what other countries others live in. Games are super expensive now, but like others have said, wait for sales.

I'd say current gen indie games are the main reason game prices are going up, last gen we used to get some pretty meaty and quality indie games for anything like $5-10, maybe $15 if it looked decent enough, now every asshole out there wants $20 for some shitty looking indie game, and that seems like a steep prices considering the risk since Sony pushed the whole self-publishing indie standard on consoles and now the stores are flooded with even more junk.

Because of this, premium AAA games' MSRP doesn't drop to that $20 sweet spot as quick as they should, instead they linger around $30 much longer.

I don't know, games prices probably remained the same for long period. They just attempt to make you pay more for additional content. Their prices fall incredibly quick(unless it is GTA) and there is a constant stream of Sales. Unless you have no self control and each game must be day one, or you pre-order, there is no need even to pay the full price.

Only the Standard Edition Games remain $60, it's limited edition and collectors edition that actually skyrocket prices.

Yup. Thats why I dont buy games at full price anymore. Always wait a couple of months for a substancial price drop. Recently I see games droping in price within the first two months of release. I can already see Prey being sold at 39,99€ and that game isnt even 2 months old... if games didnt have the bullcr4p of microtransactions and season passes to go along with them full price would be fair, now with this bullcr4p nickin and dimming us for every little thing, fvck publishers and their greedy a*ses. No more full price purchases from me

They blame the cost of making games nowadays for being to high. well, if they didnt waste so much money hiring hollywood actors to voice act in their games or stupidly insane marketing stunts I'm sure the games budget would come down considerably.

Nope, don't think games are too expensive. Some games have easily been worth the 60 dollars, and for PC gamers, it's so easy to refund now if you don't feel it's worth it. To add to that, we also have the advent of the internet, so we can watch gameplay footage. And generally, it's pretty simple to tell whether you'd enjoy a game or not due to this.

Back in the day, you had pictures in a magazine, and then commercials were absolutely no gameplay or there were no commercials at all, and the games were still 60 dollars or more!

It's so easy to save money and spend money wisely now.

When adjusted for inflation, video games are actually much cheaper nowadays than they were in the 80s and 90s.

NES games adjusted for inflation would be over $90 today. Some N64 games adjusted for inflation would be over $100 today.

Games are 50-60 US in Mexico, only problem is that the currency exchange rate has taken a nose dive in the past couple of years making games more "expensive".

Yeah. This is arguably a way bigger issue than the MSRP of games. Publishers (not the devs) have realized that they can gut half of the full game and release it as DLC, and gamers will still buy it all. So in that way, yeah games have gotten a lot more expensive.

I live in the U.S, video games back in the N64 days were 50 dollars. Since the 360 and PS3 days they've been 60 dollars, and they still are... How anyone can say games are too expensive must be really ignorant or entitled.

This.

There are so many games that there is always a good deal available and you would have definitely missed out on a gem. Picked up Max Payne 3 a few weeks ago for $5 and am now on Fallout 3 GOTY edition for $7.

With games nowadays, it is actually better to wait because there are almost guaranteed to be bugs that get ironed out over time and the inevitable COMPLETE edition comes out for $20 etc.

SNES games used to be around $50 USD. That's about EIGHTY SEVEN dollars today.

N64 games would cost over $75 USD today, and some NES games would be >$100 USD.

Not all PC games were all that cheap either - Diablo 2 cost something like $70 when new, which would be $100 today.

Buying a game for $50-$60 USD now is just fine

I don't seem to recall game prices having gone up for the past 15 years give or take. PS3/360 games were $60 USD and that price still holds up today. It's all relative to where you live though because of taxes, currency value, and other influences.

Suck it up, buttercup. Games in the 1990's cost way more than they do today. A $60 CAD game then is $90 in today's money. And games often were close to $100 CAD in price. If one of the cheapest hobbies in existence is too expensive for you, get a better job.

@uninspiredcup: that's terrible, konami spend next to **** all on updating each PES, its a copy and paste job and they make up a fancy name like "team vision" or some bollocks like that and say it's enchances gameplay while staying incredibly vague about what it is, and then asking you for nearly £60 for the game.

I feel sick

It is? Cause when I was a kid I use to play football and the ball cost £10. We use to also enjoy flying kites, cost £5 from the post office.

A console costs £300 - £600 with games costing £50+ a pop, easily add up to a grand.

Good luck with that Timmy.

Even if games are more expensive, these days games are much longer than the past. Long games like Skyrim, Witcher 3, and many JRPG are pretty common now. (Yakuza 0 is triple times longer than the first Yakuza, for example)

Also as said above, wait for prices-drop. Which doesn't take too long now. It been passed only 3 months now, and already Hoirzon Zero Dawn got down half the price in UK.

I don't know about your personal experience, but according to mine the prices have gone down and games offer far more value.

I remember paying 60 euros for 1 hour games. Some could even go up to 100 euros, like Street Fighter 2 or Virtua Racing (a game with one track and one car).

Now i pay those prices for games i play for 100+ hours. Not to mention indies for all pockets and great AAAs on sale all the time. A few weeks ago i bought Wolfenstein the Old Blood for 4 euros on PSN, just to give an example.

Really? LMAO! I bought PES2017 on January this year for about £24 on ebay. A few weeks later, there was a PSN sale and they dropped PES2017 to £7.99 I believe. I was very annoyed
