project reality 2 announced pc exclusive mp freeware fps

project reality 2 is a cryengine 3 mp shooter done by the same guys who did the opfp, arma II and bf mods by the same name. this is a pc exclusive and will be 100% free. not even an entry fee to get into the door. this is a standalone full game not a mod. initially the game will be infantry only, but the plan is to expand the game to include vehicles as well. maps will be about 1-2km in size (based on arma II sized maps)

while we have no relase date yet the game has been a sideproject that will now be a full time project that was started in mid 2012

This is what they needed to do. Get on an engine that is much more flexible and bascially build the game from scratch on it. DICE is done doing mod tools (as are most devs) so it's logical to move to an engine with public development tools.

You mean free completely. These guys aren't an actual developer. They aren't making any money off of the game. They do this in their free time which is why it will probably take another year or two before the first public release happens.

I didn't like Battlefield 3, it was a casual game about unlocking stuff and getting XP. Real pc gamers play Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm. This looks like it could also be a game that would appeal to the hardcore dissapointed by Battlefield 3 and the upcoming soon to suck, 4.

Awesome, they should try some crowdfunding to make it more polished I bet they can get at least 200k.
