Project Spark Officially dead

Yep. Microsoft cans another project. It seems they are on their way out of gaming which has proven to be a not-so-profitable endeavor for them. They drop support like Deebo in Friday drops Felicia.

I'll be honest. I still don't know wtf this is.

MS first party is a fucking disaster this gen. All SW bullcrap aside, 360 had limited but god tier first party. Halo/Gears/Forza/Fable/Rare were brilliant. Looks like everything except Forza is gone now.

Things like this always perplex me, I can understand ceasing development and support for updates, bug fixes etc, but why does the game actually need to be pulled down and online support removed, can't they just let the game be how it is now forever..

A game that no-one really played or remembered is canned and MS is Doomed because of it.

Don't we pay them $60 a year for online services, they shouldn't be allowed to just shut things down because they feel like it.

While this means there have been no layoffs at Microsoft, it also means it’s simply no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping “Project Spark” up and running with meaningful updates and bug fixes, so we have come to this hard decision.

Fable is dead. Gears of Wars and Halo are still around but nowhere near the heavy-hiting GOTY/Graphics kings they used to be. Only Forza truly remains a great Microsoft franchise.

They also keep shutting down their studios. It's a sad state of affair. At that point they might as well give up and leave the last console place to I don't know, Apple?

This was clearly meant to be Microsoft's "creative" IP for this generation like Little Big Planet was for the PS3. They have no talent like Media Molecule though and Dreams will show them how it's supposed to be done...again.

Project Spark was a failed project, but a MM wannabe of any sort it was not. Besides the fact that Media Molecule isn't the first studio to promote user created content, I doubt any studio has ever wanted to copy their mechanics which have never been good outside of Tearaway.

To be fair, Microsoft isn't very good.

The high scores and high sales of LBP 1 and 2 say otherwise.

I bought the first LBP day one, enjoyed it for various reasons, its mechanics not being one of them. The only LBP that I enjoyed mechanically was ironically not designed by MM, that being LBP Vita.

If the mechanics were as awful as you claim it would never have been as successful as it was.

The best Microsoft exclusive in 'recent' years was Halo 4, even then it wasn't that good of a game. Lets face it, those who bought a Xbone at launch, myself included. You have been jibbed big time...

2 billion dollars designing a console weaker, fatter, uglier than the ps4

75 million dollars on fable legends that was canceled.

Quantum Break a TV focused game nobody asked for.

I don't know what ReCore and Scalebound are.

I'm scared for my xbox one's future. While sony's future grows bright with horizon, last guardian, god of war 4. (Those ones I know I will buy)

This needs to stop. Xbox one fans and owners are tired of being crapped on we bought this box and are getting nothing to show for it.

I don't want to play multiplats in 720p. My xbox 360 already runs games in 720p its the lowest form of HD resolution.

Consumers are furious with this xbox 1. If they think people will be buying a new Xbone 2.0 after being treated like this for an entire generation I will not be.

If I go into a restaurant and the food is cold and and tastes bad I don't come back for seconds. I'll go to the ps4 restaurant where I got hot good food and was treated kindly.

Lets ignore the Driveclub studio Evolution studios closed, The studio that made the Order 1886 left Sony to make third party games. Sony entertainment studio left and now those xbox games too.

Meh driveclub sucked, order 1886 sucked, and sony entertainment online hadn't really made a ton of hits since like everquest.

Those are no big losses, they are still bringing out hits like uncharted 4, ratchet and clank and bloodborne.

What are we getting from microsoft? I mean not whole lot, what happened to the "were all about the games agenda"? Where are the games? Not TV games like quantum break like good games? Xbox lost the power race now Xbox said they are about the games but I see better ones on ps4 as well as the hardware so what exactly is the xbox one about?

Fable legends and Project Spark are niche projects never had mass appeal.

It Sparked but never developed into a flame, nice try on doing something different, oh well, on to the next new something, works for me. :P

Dude. Sunset overdrive came out years ago and like halo 5 was the worst halo. Killer instinct doesn't look good compared to mortal kombat or street fighter 5.

Forza is fine if you like racing games but who is going to buy a new racer every year people probably just buy one you don't need like 6 different forza's.

It came out Late 2014, it just over 1.5 years ago hardly a long time ago. Halo 5 wasn't the worst Halo thats just you PS4 fanboys agreeing with each other online.

Killer Instinct has more content then Street fighter 5 and its visually more impressive. Its on PC so play it there and you'll find out be shocked how good it is.

You don't have to buy every Forza, you have choice on xbox if you want a open world forza to play or want Forza thats more sim like.

What? LBP has huge variety of mechanics, racer, top down shooter, 2d shooter, 2d racer, firt person shooter, point and click adventure etc. The possibilities what you can do and play in those games is almost endless. I guess people mistake mechanics for controls. I can see why people prefer tight controls like mario, but lbp is not really a 2D platformer in that sense. Its more of a sandbox with puzzle platforming level design.

Some people have different standards. I wouldn't touch little big planet with a ten foot pole. But i'd plop down 60 dollars for mario maker in a heartbeat.

Some people just like mario and those mechanics more than the style of a "little big planet" just based off the brand itself. I don't care if you can drive a car in it or build a spaceship in little big planet. I like having access to mario 3 and mario world and all that stuff more than being able to do thing some dumb crap in a little big planet game.

Hopefully MS gathered the data they wanted from this project. This project was free on PC and console and everything else was optional for purchase. I wouldn't be surprised if games created in this project actually become real games in the future. This was called Project Spark because it sparked more games and ideas from the imagination from their PC and console players.

Lems don't seem to be too upset by all this.

It's a good thing this is only a game and not something lems actually care about or there might be trouble.

people here apparently dont realize project spark started as a pc game. to me it was more like test software for them upgrading the OS.

MS has Minecraft for this niche not really a big loss actually.

Free games like these should be just come pre-installed on the console for the sake of product awareness.
