Regarding the controls, Polge revealed that they are so good that half the people who work on the game prefer to play the Xbox 360 version. Furthermore, the guy responsible for the controls has stepped in playtest sessions, where everyone was on keyboards, and with a controller he kicked everyone's butt.

I can't believe it myself.  I've prefered consoles for FPS because it's a more even playing field.  For the most part everyone has the same controller.  PC some have a fast response mouse and other's a crappy wireless roller ball with lint all over it. And some hardcore gamers have the fancy Keyboard with customized key layouts.

But now EPIC has given the console the consideration it deserves and has the controller as good/better than the keyboard mouse combo!

Now if they can just fix RTS games and I'll be good to go.

Yep I saw Teamxbox.com, It instantly lost all credit. Sorry, 1 Game thats reliant on different mechanics other than shooting aswell is not the same thing, it can easily be done on a pc.

The tiny bit of auto-aim is necessary because an fps is much harder to play using a controller. Look at PDZ, it's the most frustrating game ever. Anyway, you pc owners are just as misinformed as console owners. Quit acting high all mighty all the time.

First hand experiences. They added all kinds of floaty crap to the reticule. Its like playing COD when you're always out of breath with the sniper riffle, and your aim keeps swaying like a monkey. You can find tons of poeple complaining about it on the official forums. The problem isn't on the console version.

Auto aim is for kiddies who dont know how to use a control stick properly. Try doing it manually in Goldeneye though, it wasnt exactly that easy to aim properly whereas with a keyboard and mouse it would be no problem to aim since you have unlimited aiming capabilities.

You must have missed the last part of that short paragraph where the guy with the controller whipped everyone else with KBM controls.  So it's not a matter of prefernce rather what's better.

I assumed KBM would always beat controller (even though I prefer controller for comfort and fairness), but not anymore.

They just don't understand...

If you break both the sprinter legs...who would win a 200 meter dash? An overweight, 12 year old or the sprinter with broken legs?

The overweight 12 year old...

Is that a fair comparision.? 

It's the same thing with the massive gimpage..their putting on PC controls.

If thats the case then why did Epic confirm in the SAME article that the console version of UT3 is slower and has autoaim? Why isnt there cross-platform play?

Ill probably get the 360 version. I'd like to get the PC one cause i prefer KB+M, and i want to see UE3 on my PC, but this is going to be a really fun LAN game and i see it catching on at my friends 360 LANs.

No credibility seeing as how this isn't even a real interview, rather just the editors "assumption." Team Xbox lost all credibility when it listed Crysis as a X360 game, but to their dismay, when they had asked EA reps, they told them a straight-forward answer; No.

Keep in mind this test apears to be PC vs. PC.  And they perfected the controller controls.  So are you saying they put auto-aim on the PC when using a controller?  And when using a KBM they downgrade the controls?

I may be wrong, but the quote from Epic was PC vs. PC.  Just that the PC controller is better then KBM on the PC.  Which translates to consoles having the edge now since they all have controllers as std fair.

So are you saying UT3 will have cross platform play? (I really don't know as I haven't followed this game too closely). If not, how did they compare the PC KBM vs. the console Controller?

To me the only logic conclusion is they put the 360 controller on the PC and competed.  And the PC WITH THE 360 CONTROLLER WON!!  So it's the same gimped controls as the KBM.

What on earth are you talking about? We are talking about Shadowrun here. Look, they gimped the PC shadowrun controls so that the games would be even. You can use console controllers on the PC too, so I really don't understand your point. They could have easily turned off the swaying using CVARs during the test for the controller. Its highly unlikely that a controller equally matched with KBM would ever win.

Actually , most console shooters don't have online auto aim, pretty much just halo2 and maybe a few others.

But everyone likes to think that since Halo2 had a slight auto aim assist, every game follows in its wake.

Me thinks you need to read the article before posting again.  It's about UT3 NOT Shadowrun. If it's shadowrun, I must have missed the transition from UT3 to shadowrun...and rechecking I didn't see it.  So do me a favor and show me where this is Shadowrun and not UT3.

Did you read the article?  I personally haven't tested what EPIC is saying about UT3, so I'm not sure myself.  As I said in my first post I find it hard to believe, but taking them at their word this means controller/consoles are now > than PC KBM.

Well.........I thought I was in the shadowrun thread still. Anyway, theres no proof saying that they didn't take equal measures to attempt to balance out the controls just like the proof of concept of Shadowrun. Its illogical that a controller could EVER win against KBM if its fair. Its just not plausible There isn't enough DPI.

As I said before I find it hard to believe, but if true console just leaped passed PCs for controls on FPS games.  Having said that, is UT3 a cross-platform game?  If not, how do you think they gimped the KBM and not the controller when it's on the same platform?  Do they do a hardware check and if it's a controller they add auto-aim and for KBM they add some gimpage stuff into it?

What on earth are you talking about? We are talking about Shadowrun here. Look, they gimped the PC shadowrun controls so that the games would be even. You can use console controllers on the PC too, so I really don't understand your point. They could have easily turned off the swaying using CVARs during the test for the controller. Its highly unlikely that a controller equally matched with KBM would ever win.

Me thinks you need to read the article before posting again. It's about UT3 NOT Shadowrun. If it's shadowrun, I must have missed the transition from UT3 to shadowrun...and rechecking I didn't see it. So do me a favor and post show me where this is Shadowrun and not UT3.

Did you read the article? I personally haven't tested what EPIC is saying about UT3, so I'm not sure myself. As I said in my first post I find it hard to believe, but taking them at their word this means controller/consoles are now > than PC KBM.

well we shall see when all the ut2k4 KBM users start owning the people using the controller

Its really simple. You can do the exact same thing in Halo. They have individual set up pages for controllers and KBM. Look, its not possible for a controller and KBM to play on an even playing field and the controller to win. Its technically not possible. Especialyl considering that UT3 is a twitch based game. It requires a input device that is precise, and has a high DPI count. Joysticks don't have this. They are sporadic and hard to control. Unless they added some form of assisted aim with the controler or gimped aim with the KBM, then its possible. On a side note, controller settings are client side, you can tweak individual settings easily.

So you're saying they lied about the quote?  The fact is it was EPIC saying it not teamxbox.  Teamxbox just reported it.  I understand dismissing fan sites, but when they quote multiplat devs...well you have to believe it unless that site is known to make up crap.

uh..no.  How about you explain how this test was accomlished since you appear to know.  Did they do a cross-platform test where 360 gets autoaim and PC gets deprecated controls?  Or is it on the same platform?  If same platform are they detecting the hardware and then adding gimping if you choose KBM and adding auto-aim for controllers?  If so, I know there wil be a keyboard mouse that quickly comes to market that reports that it's a controller--giving it uber powah.

Kenshi: My statement was in regards to shadow run. Its logically and technically not plausible for a fair playing field between a controller and a KBM for the controller to win. ESPECIALLY in a twitch based game like UT3 where it requiers tons of DPI counts with the input device. They have to have added some form of assisted aim client side for the controller.

Even the 10% chance of it being true ir correct, thats ONE game, I would like to see a console pull off realistic shooters, I really would, last time I checked BAttlefield on the consoles was a joke.

There is no Recoil on Unreal Tournement , or spray shots, they shoot preciscley in your aiming direction as the previous games did.

True, but how long will it be before a software hack comes out (or new hardware) that has the keyboard and mouse report that it's a controller and then remaps the contoller contrls to KBM?  If they are actually depracting KBM controls it will be worked around giving it the same control as a controller
