I need to make a purchase, I thought I'd ask you guy who own one or more consoles to list me all pros and cons of each console, hardware and software-wise.

I choose SW, because I like the "turmoil" going on over here, the bashing and worshipping mixed with some objectivity. :D

Preliminary Remarks: I don't use my Pc for gaming, except for some indie games here and there. I work with the Pc everyday and it almost gives me sickness to think that I'm still gonna use after work. This before someone tells me PC >>>>>>>>> YOU.

360

Pros:

- huge library

- better performanca in most multiplats

- best controller

- online is good

- Halo Reach

Cons:

- scratches discs, don't ever put the console vertically :|

- dvd 9 can limit some games due to its short capacity, it is an old format and is less resistant and durable than a bluray

- RROD used to be a big deal, Jasper models proved to be reliable

- exclusives are reduced to a couple of games each year

- the d-pad sucks, but you won't need it most of the time

I don't own the other 2

Just make a list of games you want on each console. Then just choose which of the lists is the best.

I only own a PS3 slim so I won't be able to offer my advice for the other two consoles :( Pro: A huge and diverse amount of exclusives (ranging from platformers like Little Big Planet to sanbox games like Yakuza 3) Doubles as blue ray disk player Reliability (I pored water all over mine and it automatically switched off. After I cleaned it though, it went back to working fine) Con: Inferior XMB (which seems very tacked together) No crosschatting

360:

pro - best lineup of games still, and best online (that you pay for blah, blah, blah)

con - hardware failure is common

PS3:

pro - more games in the last few years than 360, and more upcoming games

con - backwards compatability is gone, and mandatory installs

Wii:

pro- uhhhhh... SMG 2 is good

con - way fewer games than it's competition, weak hardware, controller, and terrible online

Sure it´s debateable, it´s my opinion.

Anyway, upcoming exclusives that are not Halo: Crackdown2, NNN2, Gears3, Codemane Kingdoms (?). Also kinect is supposed to bring many exclusives with it.

Im not sure if you are serious asking me for 4 exclusives already out thats not Halo! :|

Note to TC: Many people have previously mentioned that XBOX 360 gets better versions of multiplats. This is true for games in the past, however now this is largely not the case since most developers are now choosing to build from the ground up on the ps3 in order to achieve maximum results out of BOTH consoles, thus giving identical multiplatform games now.

Not true. Red Dead Redemption and Bayonetta were BOTH better on the 360, for example and both are 2010 games.

i would usually agree with you but RDR looks so much better on 360 but i guess that is just rockstar bending over backwards for the 360 (again)

I didn't say that there wern't exceptions. Note the use of the word "largely" by me. I mean at e3, lots of multiplatform games shown at Ubisoft and EA conferences were shwon on the ps3, and in a few interviews the developers then said something along the lines of building from the ground up on the ps3 means being able to get more out of the ps3 and get an identical experience on the 360 from there.

See, even as it stands now, about 70% of the multiplats are better on the Xbox 360. So until the number tips more in the PS3's favour, or is at least equal, the 360 has better multiplats, development costs and architecture and lead platforms notwithstanding.

Xbox: Faulty hardware. Noise. Their first Party line up is kinda on the meh side. PS3: No BC. There online system is pretty good considering its free, just not as good as live. Wii: Too much Shovelware. Took them 3 years to bring out there big guns. The online system is just downright crappy. Most 3rd games don't end up on the Wii.

Xbox 360:

Pros:

  • Largest library of games
  • Popular franchises not on PS3 or Wii, such as Forza, Halo, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, and Gears of War
  • Xbox Live, despite the price, is a phenomonal online service
  • HD graphics
  • Sort of backwards compatible with Xbox

Cons:

  • Weak firsty-party games
  • The D-Pad on the controller is awful
  • RRoD or RDoD, and the poor hardware in general that's bound to fail

Playstation 3:

Pros:

  • Tons of killer exclusives, like Killzone, Uncharted, Resistance, God of War, and more
  • PSN is free
  • Best graphical capabilities of the 3 consoles
  • Great controller
  • PSone classics and PS2 Collections

Cons:

  • PSN, while free, lacks voice chat, and games take forever to log online
  • Piss-poor launch

Nintendo Wii:

Pros:

  • Very strongfirst party, see Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros, etc
  • A huge number of great niche exlcusives, like No More Heroes, A Boy and His Blow, Little King's Story
  • Cheap and affordable
  • Wii remote works well when implemented correctly
  • Virtual Console is AMAZING
  • Backwards compatability with the Gamecube
  • System consumes little electricity
  • Best looking console of the 3

Cons:

  • Boatload of shoverlware
  • Few quality multiplats
  • Graphics are outdated
  • Online sucks
