EGM had an article about home and at the end they compared it to Xbl.

SUMMARY:

Personalization- Home wins becuase of aparments..clothes etc.

Game Invites-XBL, becuase its more simplifed.

Social Gaming:Home Becuause you can meet friends and invite them to a game or your place.

Chatting:Home becuase you can explore and meet random people and its all 3d.

Managing Friends:XBL wins becuase its easier to keep track of your friends.

Media Sharing:Home becuase xbl doesn't even have it...in Home you can invite a friend over and watch a movie on you virtual tv.

Verdict:Sony's Home could be overkill for people who are just looking to play some games online in a seamless manner, because of that Live is unbeatable for sending and recieving invites across titles. But we do admit we're stoked about socializing in Home for free. Still, Live (barely) wins.....for now.

They definitely each have their pros and cons. Like you said Home could be overkill for some, but it's pretty safe to say you'll be able to just jump into the games and skip everything else.

In those categories, Home comes out on top in 4 of them whereas Live comes out on top for 2. How is that a win for XBL? It doesn't concern me or anything. Just curious

first of all i didnt right this...i just typed what was in a magazine....and i agree with you that it wont be as hard as they make it seem to jump into a game with your friends online...especially with in game xmb being released soon.

Who cares if you can see someone in 3D ? It is all about the games and online gaming.

. . . What? You can. . go to people's virtual appartments and watch. . virtual tv? Neat, I su--no. No, it is not neat. It's stupid. About as stupid as mini ipod video whatevers. I did not pay for laser surgery just to ruin my eyes trying to stare at a tiny screen.

Likewise, I am not buying something so I can watch my avatar watching TV with a virtual friend. If I want to do something like that I can have my friend come over physically and we can watch TV in a big screen.

Home has nice features but it's gimmicky andit's innovation in the wrong direction.

Until we start wearing VR headsets like in .hack// and other similar franchises, I don't give a hoot or holler about a digital avatar representing me in some virtual room.

I just want to play game sonline in the most efficient, simplistic way possible.

im pretty sure you can zoom in on the tv and go into full screen.....that way you can watch teh movie with ur friends virtually and physically at the same time.

We haven't seen Home for what it truly is yet, but given the fact that it's much more of a detailed program I say PlayStation HOME wins.

2-4 is a win for XBL? Wait what?Slashkice
the only reason xbl won is because its "easier"...lol the ps3 will have in game xmb so you can do all that stuff "seamlessly"

3-D visuals > 2-D text. go ahead. try and spin that

HOME will have ways you can find your friends and jump into online games with them instantly

You can meet up with your clan or with the guys you are going to race with in GT5 in a private 3-D room, have a pregame chat and then jump into the game.

3-D trophies as well

And Xbox Live is better than that?

Outside of the gamertag, which PS3 is getting a version of soon, Xbox Live has nothing on HOME

EDIT: LOL 3-D visuals excessive and not needed LMAO you lemmings are something else. Give credit when credit is due...sheesh

Why do I need 3d? If I had a choice between Home and XBOX Live, I'd go with Live.

I'm basing this off of the belief that XBOX Live will be simpler and easier to use rather than the system Home uses.

What I find apalling is that 360 fanboys somehow find HOME features like media sharing a waste and not needed. Sony better scrap those features now...not needed

LMAO

That's pathetic

Even so, what's the point? Humanity is doomed if people want to sit in their house and watch the same program with someone in another country or state in a virtual world.

It's excessive and unnecessary. If I want to watch the same program my friend is I'll flip the channel or I'll buy the DVD or digital download. Not log on to Home, wander into his house, and sit my virtual butt on his virtual couch. And that's all IF I can't invite him over.

Hell, I can do all this anyway.. I can watch TV and chat to my friend on XboxLive by opening a chat and then switching channels.

nobody said you HAVE to watch tv in Home ...its all optional...where as in Xbl you dont even have the choice of media sharing

So why do you prefer X-Box Live? Because HOME has alot of extras that you don't need? That doesn't sound like a very good reason.

"If you're going to talk about me, at least use my name. And if you don't know my preferred gaming medium, you best shut up and not look like a fool."

OK, ANCIENT DOZER. Happy? lmao

"I give credit where it's due and there is no credit here. It hasneat features, that's all; but it doesn't benefit gaming at all.

Achievement points were an okay gimmick but 3-D trophies? What the hell? You might as well give me real trophies then.

You want to know why Live is considered the winner? It gets the job done. It's easy and it works. I don't have to find my friend in a virtual world; all I have to do is select his name on my list and drop him an invite. If I want to invite a bunch of people, I'll select as many names as I want and send them all invites. I can include text or voice in that invite."

No credit due for HOME? They gave PS3 owners a free secondlife/sims type feature they can use for free and it doubles as a way to meet other players online. If you think Sony offering HOME for FREE deserves no credit you my friend are a blind hater

"Honestly, if I wanted all that stuff in Home I would've gotten the Sims or Gaia Online or even that. . zwinky thing. And until you can get a machine gun in Home and blast people or crush them with tanks and mechs. . I just don't give a hoot. It's an overglorified chatroom."

You want a machine gun in HOME? You want to blast people and crush them with tanks in HOME?

lol little 13 year old, go kill things with your 360 first person shooters. And please don't let your obsession with violence spill over into your gradeschool

EDIT: Just saw your newest post. LOL man LOL. HOME is free . FREE. We aren't paying $60 a year for friends list and laggy pear to pear gameplay. Sad sad sad

As a matter of fact, yes. I'm not going to get something if it gives me stuff I don't need or want. That's like a Soccer Mom buying an SUV. If all I'm going to do is drive around a few kids, I don't need an urban assault vehicle.

AncientDozer
so your saying.. all you care for is having the basic things like messaging and online play and you wouldn't accept free extras?

I know I'll prefer Xbox Live over Home once Home comes out. I just love Live's simple, to-the-point interface. I don't need - or want - to be doing things like watching movies in a virtual household. Xbox Live's seamless cross-game interface is all that I need.

Xbox Live is heavily accessible, and almost instantaneous. It's what Sony has to trade for making their online interface 3D.

ill give it credit its free, its an overly complicated 3d chatroom. I mean its cool if you want to walk around with a 3d avatar and play pool or watch a virtual movie or go to someones apartment but id rather have something like xbox live, its a much more better dedicated easy to use online service ill gladly pay 50 a years for

Home is for those who have no lives or want an escape, XBL is just a means to play games online with freinds on your free time, while home is meant to immerse u and keep u in; thats one reason why it is a 3d "game."

Of course you would say that, your a sony fanboy. I dont want to go around in a virtual world and watch a movie with someone i dont even know i rather be killing them in gears. Most pplwho own a consle wanna play games which is why xbox live wins cuz it takes you straight to gaming.

Home= 3d myspace knock-off

XBL= gaming service.

you can't really compare the two, if it was PSN vs. XBL then i'd actually pay attention to what's going on. or is the reason that you don't bring up PSN because you know it'd loose horribly?

No doubt home will sell alot of ps3s, theres definetly a huge, possible untappedmarket for it, look at what the number one selling game franchise is, the sims. As for all your arguements, the whole "unnecessary" arguement makes very little sense, yeah it may be more than what alot of ppl want in their online service, but at the same time if it does everything the xbl does and is free, then why not?
