It sales to PlayStation fans. Vita just needs some more games and a price drop. Once it does Vita will fly off the shelves. The PSP was very successful.
It could have a very compelling place in the market. Unfortunatly Sony didn't learn sh*t about why the PSP did so poorly next to its own competition.darkspineslayer
The PSP did poorly due to piracy which essentially killed software support in the west. The software attach rate on the PSP is something like 2.1 which is abysmal.
The PS Vita doesn't have software support simply because tablets, and the 3DS are much better looking alternatives to the common consumer, and thus game support goes there instead. A $250 handheld (plus the price of a memory card) just can't compete in a world where there are $200 tablets. 7 years ago when the PSP came out that was the choice for someone who wanted multimedia and games on the go, but now tablets and smartphones have disrupted that whole market entirely. That's the same reason Nintendo lowered the price of the 3DS so drastically, and so soon after launch.
I mean the PSP and Vita suffer the same problem, but from two different reasons. Sony did learn from the piracy on the PSP, and made the Vita more secure, but Vita ended up with nothing really great software-wise regardless.
Unfortunately for Sony that piracy is what really sold the original PSP in the west. That doesn't look like it'll happen for the PS Vita.
Japan?
Theyd buy it. It just doesn't have any games they would like. It was a completely boneheaded move by Sony to design a system to sell to westerners with ports of games that western games would like then completely ignore their own country which is the place that actually cares about handhelds. Like they went all out with this online voice chat, cross game xmb, multitouch screen back screen etc etc... But japan doesn't give a f*ck about any of that stuff. They should have made some cool features that appealed to the japanese like Nintendo with their spot pass daily update features and so on.
One reason why Nintendo is so successful is that they worry about their own market first and everything else is bonus afterwards. THough it causes a lot of frustration for me and other people in the west I understand it from a business perspective atleast
If the Vita can do really well in Japan, and just ok in europe, and sell ANYTHING in America, then the Vita can be a success.

Agreed. The Vita doesn't really have a reason to exist.
That's the problem. They have a lot of games on the Vita that are just watered down versions of games we can get on our PS3s. They need to focus on exclusives that aren't watered down PS3 games. They also need to cut the price of the memory cards in half and drop the price of the Vita to $199.99It sales to PlayStation fans.ShadowMoses900

[QUOTE="ShadowMoses900"]It was so successful that it beat the DS on sales... Oh, wait. Succes is not necessarily when you beat your competitor. I'm sure Sony is happy with sellingi 70 million units of the PSP albeit probably not so much with how hard a time they had with getting software support. It sales to PlayStation fans. Vita just needs some more games and a price drop. Once it does Vita will fly off the shelves. The PSP was very successful.

Man sony just downgraded their sales expectations again from 16 million originally down to 12 million and today down again to 10 million to fiscal year March 31 2013....Still sounds like wishful thinking
They better just come out and say "2 million".Man sony just downgraded their sales expectations again from 16 million originally down to 12 million and today down again to 10 million to fiscal year March 31 2013....Still sounds like wishful thinking

you know what i hate is when some one criticizes peoples threads , it is their opinion , im shocked to see for the 2nd night that some one says stop making threads
you do it to me all the time and now your doing it to him well you know what its his right , if you dont like the thread move on ,
simple as that no one is forcing you to post or even look at it ,
on topic ya the vita blew it , simply because sony does not know how to market it , they want to market it as a ps3 on the go which is exactly what they did for psp , to ps2 , and what happened is the ds stomped it ,
and now we got 3ds and smartphones stomping it - so whats up dont say oh but they dont have games - as i recall gta 3 and gta vice city is on android as is asphalt 7 , 2 good games yep many are casual but its worth noting that smart phones arent eating the 3ds at all , the 3ds is doing just fine why you ask well its got games not just for kids its got games for everyone --resident evil mariokart pokemon zelda starfox tales of the abyss luigis mansion nsmb 2 sml3d paper mario bunch of rpgs monster hunter , things vita do not have ,
so sad because i thought vita had potential and bought it up
Good I hope the PSP vita fails.. Sony are greedy jackasses for forcing people to purchase their own propitiatory sd chip that costs 2 to 3 times more than a regular one that holds no difference aside its the only one the vita can use.. And they have the nerve to sell you the system for $250 and not even GIVE YOU one.. Gets to the point I couldn't care less about mobile gaming when I can get something like a Kindle Fire or Nexus 7 that can do far more and for far cheaper..
