Im not the only one praising the sales, its unanimous amongst most news sites this was pretty strong performance. Its not like the 3ds sales during black friday BLASTED vita sales away. 3ds sold 240,000, not even double the vita sales. They are both doing pretty well tho. They are handhelds, what u gonna expect hahaIt's on track to sell less than half a million units over the holiday period in the biggest market.
Hooray...I mean, thud.

What I expect is for Sony to downgrade their Vita sales forecast for the FY yet again come January.:P
And the comparison to the 3DS isn't particularly helpful since those numbers are also weaksauce.

Eh, i wouldnt call them weak sauce. For handhelds, and rather expensive ones at that during ipod generation, those are pretty good numbers for both 3ds and vita

Im not the only one praising the sales, its unanimous amongst most news sites this was pretty strong performance. Here is what you need to know.
Sony FY 2011 combined PSP + Vita actual sales = 6.8 million units
Sony FY 2012 Forecast PSP + Vita sales as of May = 16 million units
Sony FY 2012 Forecast downgrade as of August = 12 million units
Sony FY 2012 Forecast downgrade # 2 as of October = 10 million units
Sony FY 2012 Actual sales for April thru Sept = 3.0 million units
Sony needs a huge holidays showing to come any where near its latest forecast.
160 K units over Black Friday is not huge, especially given that this is the first holiday the Vita has been on the market in the US.
Another forecast downgrade will be incoming in January.
But hey, its not so bad if you keep lowering the bar for forecast expectations. LMAO

Sure. If Black Friday is throughout the whole year.ms555Keeping the momentum doesnt quite mean its gotta keep selling 160,000 units a week haha. The vita sales never really took speed , but now its finally rolling. Maybe my wording was a bit vague, but by keeping momentum i mean will it keep rolling or is it just gonna screech to a halt and sell terribly again
So not having the 3DS outsell the Vita by at least 2x more, is now considered a win for Sony?
.... so sad. :D

Umm, the 3DS is on pace to outsell the DS....selling half that is a great accomplishment.

Who said sony only succeeds if they beat nintendo?!
160k for its first Black Friday is actually pretty bad.ms555Im not 100% sure personally what would be considered amazing sales for a hanheld. But news outlets are calling 160k STRONG in this case actually. Go check ign for example, or google newsStrong...for the system itself which is still bad in general. I think IGN said the original DS out sold it by atleast 100k although i'm not certain on that. Regardless the original DS outselling it certainly isn't good.
Where are you getting your numbers? Vita sold 160,000 last week in all markets. 3DS sold over 600,000

Glad u can at least understnd sales dont reflect quality here with the vita And charizard as i stated, im only calling these numbers good becuse news outlets (who know more than i do) are saying 160k is an impressive number. I mean would u consider the 250 and 400 from 3ds and wii u weak?

What sony needs to do; 1. Price drop to around 200 dollars 2. Get some developers who know what they are doing to make a COD / online shooter game. 3. ??? 4. Profit oh and more advertising. Its actually surprising how many adds i see in australia but im assuming it doesnt get much advertising love in the USjoel_c17The price drop is needed and Killzone should be that online shooter it needs. If Killzone fail they're going to have a hard time. As far as ads go, I see CoD Declassified ads as well as ACIII Liberation ads quite frequently.
This isnt the first topic reporting black fridy sales , but i just wanted to point out vita specifically So vita didnt beat 3ds sales, and nobody really expects it too. But vita actually did pretty damn well for black friday. This is contrary to several threads i saw in this forum previously thinking vita did piss poor. 160,000 sales. Its not OMG mind blowing but its no doubt impressive News is reporting the vita bundles sold out almost everywhere. Amazon sold out of all their vita bundles. And i will say just in terms of my county that many vita games are actually sold out. This stuff shoudnt come as a surpise, the black friday deals for vita were very attractive. So a quick congrats to vita, if it maintains this kinda momentum the vita i honestly think should be fine. Vita actually got a pretty decent number of games this xmas and its got some pretty good games already announced for 2013. Its not catching up to 3ds sales and it never will but i think thats something everyone has come to accept. SO MY QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS, the vita did well here but is this the beginning of a turn around for vita or did vita simply get lucky for this moment only? ms555Other than the Vita, which systm doesn't put up more than 160K each and every month of the year? Don't think any of them have and this is suppose to be impressive on Black Friday? Even the Gamecube was doing better than that.

250 for the 3ds is a bit weak....400k for the 3rd biggest console launch in history is just fine..
150k for a 300$ device discounted to 180(it's suggested sweet spot price) with 5 games in the biggest shopping week of the year.in the biggest market? pathetic.
black friday doesn't really indicate momentum. the next sales report will certainly be lower.

I agree with you, however it shows that there are many ppl who want a PSV, probably the current price-tag or Memory cards prices are holding them back..
So the only thing PSV needs right now are more games which will make gamers more interested in buying the system..
All it shows is that Sony needs to drop the price of the PS Vita system and memory cards nothing more. People just aren't willing to pay $250 for a core handheld system.

lets hope they notice this and drop it in price. Also bundle a memory card with it.
I have a Vita and I love it. The hardware is fantastic. It blows the 3DS away. But it's too expensive. If Sony wants it to succeed, they need to cut the price of the system and memory cards. They should cut it to $200 and include an 8gb memory card. Sell the 16 and 32gb cards as upgrades. If the Vita were cheaper, it would sell. It would be a shame if it failed because it is a really awesome handheld with a lot of potential.
