Why would discontinuing the PS2 make games go from 60 to 50? Aren't they that high because it costs more to develop for the 360 and PS3?

I dunno ...might be but still i think they got used to developing the games. Also i think they increased the price just because it's next gen and they can do that (they did it before)
No, PS2 is a great system and it's doing well, they shouldn't kill it just because. I doubt they wiil just like the PS1, PS1 didn't affect PS2 right?tegovoltioOk think of this example if they made God Of War 2 for the PS3 maybe more people would buy the console. Instead they make it for Ps2.

So Sony should have told the developers to screw the GOW 2 development and start making it for PS3? That would have been annoying.
IMO thats just an excuse. Look at Oblivion, why is it 60 on PS3 & Xbox360 but only 50$ on the PC? Even though with a high end PC you can make Oblivion have better graphics, and run at higher fps.Why would discontinuing the PS2 make games go from 60 to 50? When did they do that?So do you think if they would pull the plug for the PS2 Next gen game prices would drop to normal ($50 instead of $60 ) ? I think this would be the most appropriate thing b/c Sony should focus on PS3 and M$ and Ninty allready did this.turgore
MS and Nintendo abandon their last-gen console because their last-gen console sux
believe, if Xbox was very successful, maybe MS won't even launch X360 until 2006
Didn't Sega pull the plug on the Saturn and piss devs off? Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember.ShakeNBake1491
Anybody wanna clarify?
That's right and the PS2 is still selling pretty well as well as it's games. Why would discontinuing the PS2 make games go from 60 to 50? Aren't they that high because it costs more to develop for the 360 and PS3?

They should, just to look good. The Playstation platform is the only product I've seen where the old one is cannabalizing the new product's sales and for this reason, I can use it as an example for my exam tomorrow :p gnutuxgnutux
It's not cannibalizing the PS3. The people who are buying PS2's right now would not buy PS3's if PS2's weren't available. These people are late adopters, as opposed to the early adopters who are buying PS3's.
They're different sections of the market, so there's no cannibalization going on.
Sony would be stupid to pull the plug on the PS2.
Briant Hastings of Insomniac Games made a great point. Right now, it's outselling both the PS3 and 360. If these people were forced to buy a next generation console, the PS3 is probably the least attractive due to price and games. But since these people are buying PS2s, it will be at least a year before they upgrade.
Perhaps then, Sony won't be the weakest- maybe by Christmas 2008, we'll see a $400 PS3 and HD-DVD off the market, making the Blu Ray drive much more valuable to consumers.
Why kill the PS2? That would be about like killing the Gameboy. Both are still cash cows for their respective companies. Support will slowly taper off. As long as it brings in money, let it go on doing that. Besides, the PS3 isn't exactly a cash cow at the moment.

Um if you recall-Saturn was pretty much a complete failure (unfortunately---such an awesome system...)....pretty much the PS2 and the Saturn experienced completely different levels of success so this is a bad comparision....and devs werent pissed....the Saturn was IMPOSSIBLE to get the juice out of...
