I Like it so far. It's been smooth and responsive, especally the in-game xmb. If I don't want the sparkels (which I think it's a nice touch") i can just change the theme to clasic and that goes for the font too and have it back to before.

What say you all?

It's really nothing. It didn't do much, I don't see why it's getting so much damn attention.

I don't like it.

It's basically a visual update of the XMB and a better way for Sony to throw their products down our throats.

If it keeps it free Sony can self promote all they want as long as it doesn't interfere with the gaming. If they start charging and throwing car commercials in the mix then i'll have a problem. It's only in the what's new section anyway which you can launch you games from.

It just feels desperate. I expected more from a 3.00 number than commercials and new ways to spend money on Sony.

*I hate the fact that I default to the "What's New" icon when I turn on my PS3 just to make me aware of all the new stuff I can buy.

*I hate the fact that there is a PSN Store Icon in the Game meny which is incredibly distracting.

*I hate the fact that the only real news was interactive themes which are sold at the awful price of $3.

-

It's not a "bad" update but there wasn't anything really there for me as a PS3 user to be hyped about.

Maybe this will tell you something.

I am seriously starting to believe that MS, and Sony should join forces. Since Sony cannot do software worth a damn, they should get MS to do it. Have them do their dev tools, also.

I just don't see why Sony won't do what MS does. MS releases 2 updates a year. Both updates are huge. They have a lot of performance tweeks, and a lot of features. Sony releases new firmware every couple of months, and the updates do practically do nothing except add a couple of icons, change the font/icon sizes, and brick a few consoles.

Did you see me say that? No, I didn't. Stuff like this happens all the time. I am not blaming Sony for it. I can almost bet you that more than half of the complaints of bricked systems comes from people that did something to cause it, power failure, etc.

I remember alot of people not liking the look of the NXE,but it grew on them. Things always seems werid at first, but it grows on you. I remember when 3.0 first came the text buged me out,but it took me like 5 minutes to stop caring and it was fine.

I only have 2 problems with the update. 1) Friends List Boxes arent customizable. 2) To Many Shortcuts, Whats News is enough. My point = People dont understand that the friend list boxes is just the beginning to a revamped friends list. What I think is that Sony is going to scrap the Profile Cards and make it right on the XMB. It'll look something like this. The icons will slide out when you press X and it'll have several slots like the Profile Card (L1/R1).

Friends list is my only complaint, it's pretty damn bulky and ugly now. No need for the addition.

Sony will do it, im pretty damn sure. Thats the only reason why Sony would put the boxes around your Friends in the first place.

PSN isn't really free, Sony charge developers to use it and those developers pass the cost on to us. I don't have a problem Sony promoting the PSN store I just think they've gone waaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top doing it to the point now where PSN Store is an annoyance. With the what's new, ticker and placing the store icons above the content i.e. it is above the game in the game menu (sic) it has become intrusive. To be fair a store icon in the game menu that takes you to the game section in the store isn't a bad idea but they could have put it at the bottom of that menu.

I love the update. the thing about the friends list is that u can tell its just the starting ground, for when they add the trophy scores and levels to them, so u dont have to hit X to see the trophy card. all they need to do is make them transparent for now and it will be all good

It isn't, the costs are hidden, or when you phone company gives you a mobile phone at no up front cost do you really belive that is a 'free' phone? The costs are hidden in the cost of the game. Sony charge games developers to use PSN, those developers recoup that cost by including it in the price of the game.

Have only had like 30 seconds of experience with it.

GUI updates are kind of neat but mostly ****.

If the text looks this bloated by default, and not just in this one theme I've set, then that's a definite no go.
Friends list now looks weird. What exactly are the gray blocks good for besides looking ugly and out of place?
What's New stuff looks cool and is a definite improvement over that nasty bar I never used.
Battery indicator doesn't overlap! Weeee! The other icons and **** in the corner are nice too.

I'm not sure of everything else this update adds, but two things I know of...

Analog rewinding/playback/etc. Kind of pointless, but kind of cool.
Multiple audio outputs. Finally. Thank god.

Only thing i liked was the glittery stuff in the background, that looks cool. As for the larger fonts and icons, i dont like it at all. And the friends list looks silly too. Havent really noticed anything else...well other than the new iplayer menu which is pretty useless. Its basically a bookmark to the website
