Is the 60 GB really needed? I just want to make sure because I'm pretty sure I'm going with the PS3. Isn't the 360 a 20 GB drive?

If you want wifi and you think you're going to be downloading tons of videos, music, demo's then yes, 60GB is needed. Btw, a lot of games will have a feature that will install game data onto the hard drive to speed up load times and what not. I'm talking gigs at a time. If you're not planning on using wifi or do not have the need for memory card readers, you can always upgrade the hard drive yourself at a later date. Sony allows you to do so without voiding your warranty. You can buy virtually any laptop hard drive for the PS3. The 20gb model would be the better choice for the latter.

Yes, the 360 premium is a 20gb. However, remember that some games on the PS3 will download onto the HDD. So you'll use more space on the PS3 overall. So if you want tons of movies and demos then I'd definately go with the 60gb. Also depends on if you want the memory stick readers and wifi.

I'm getting the 20G. The 60G is seven hundred bucks in Canada, the 20G is around six hundred.

Can someone explain the benefits of WiFi? Is this being able to connect with only a wireless router or somthing? Because I don't mind having a bunch of ethernet cables running all over the house.

The only benefit is not having ethernet cables running everywhere. As in my current setup has my router in one room and my PS3 in another. I really don't want a wire running through a wall or down stairs.

That's pretty much the jist although I have my set up wireless and it's actually really nice not having to rethink and do any sort of rewiring with how I have my set up. My 360 is just the same with a wireless hook up. Same with Wii. I can keep my concoles focuse more around my tv instead of having to worry about my PC on the other side of the room and getting 50' cables just to connect them to the router. And the extra space is always nice. Hey. I figure hell, if I'm going big with a new HDTV, I might as well go big on the PS3 60 gig version. I see it being worth it.

Yeah, Oblivion alone uses 5gb of the PS3's harddrive in order to improve load times. But imagine if you got the 20gb harddrive, and you needed to erase the cache in order to download a demo or something. It would be awful if you had to wait on the game to be loaded onto the harddrive again, unless it's done incrementally. Either way, I'm getting the 60GB version just in case...

Do you have to put that junk on there? I don't mind waiting an extra few seconds or whatever to save 5G.

if you don't care about the wifi or card readers, you could always just upgrade the hard drive if you feel you need more space.  Unless I'm mistaken, i believe any old 2.5" notebook hard drive will work, and you can get a 120 GB one for around $80 on new egg.

I'd say the 60gig it's only $100 more and you get alot more features. Now whether or not you want or need those features is up to you. But I personally think it's the best deal.

Chromish trime, Wifi, All kinds of memory card slots, and +40gb are what you get. And the sense that you didn't get "Just the 20gig PS3". I was really after the Wifi so I didn't have to run cables all over my hallway.

If you don't want the extra features other than the bigger HDD (silver finish, card readers, WiFi), then by all means go for the 20 GB version. You can upgrade the HDD yourself.

wifi = less secure anyone nearby can use it unless its secure and its much slower 54mb/s vs 100mb/s for most people and wired lan goes to 1000mb/s

If I were you, i would get the 60 GB one, considering PS3 games store caches for quicker loading on your HDD, and Oblivion uses 5GB and I heard VF5 does too.

No, the PS3's loading was the slowest, so they used the cache to boost laoding speeds.

Even if Wifi was less secure, how would that even affect the PS3? Someone going to hack into your wifi and give your PS3 a virus? I don't think so. WAP encryption prevents this from being a problem anyways. Internet connections are no where near as fast at 54mbs. Since Wifi is so much faster then internet connections, this will never be a problem for playing games online.

the cacheing for the games actually doesnt take that long...took me about 5 minutes with ridge racer...and without it loading times were minimal...i would get the 60 gb because of the features....you could always upgrade the 20 gb but that would cost alot more than the 60 gb

by the way...the option of installing to the HDD is optional...although it made slight difference in gundam and in ridge racer...im not sure about oblivion...we would just have to wait till it comes out
