what's the reason behind the disinterest of gamers, editors, etc... towards the ps3 achievemnts-like system?
it seems somewhat the same, in concept, as X360 achievemnts system, but somehow didn't manage to garner much interest.

What games have acheivements? I only know of Uncharted having them.Mordred19
so DMC4 and upcoming games won't have something similiar to X360 achievemnts?
P.S. i've been reading a lot of ps3 fans claims (in this very forum) that new ps3 games do have achievments.

They aren't achievements per say like that of the XBL Gamerpoints, it's just basically achievements, if you've played The Orange Box on the PC, then it should sound similar.

DMC4 has achievements.Cows have been bashing achievements for so long, they don't know what to do when they get something similar.BillGreen68
whenever an X360 fan says "i'm buying *insert multi plat game here* because of achievments", i see ps3 fans respond with "the ps3 version also has achievements"
but it seems they're a bit confused then
Achievements are overrated... It's something a dev puts as a challenge instead of you.
Let's say you get a achievement point for getting level 99 in but random xbox 360 rpg here. It's the same thing for me giving me a challenge for FF12 by saying, I wanna get to level 99. The difference is on one side you get a "medal" on other nothing. Achievements are good, but nothing exceptional.

From the Gamespot review:" The Xbox 360 version has achievements, and the PlayStation 3 version gives you the same tasks, but calls them accomplishments."
So The Darkness does have a reward system. There's goes your point I guess...

so you got confused cause i called it achievements instead of accomplishments? or you didn't know there was an achievement-like system in ps3 to begin with?
Once again, like PSN vs. XBL, the big difference is the level of integration. EVERY 360 game has achievements, even the XBLA games, and some expansion packs. They all pool to one master score that tallies every game you've played. Only a handful of PS3 games have them, and as far as I know, the score isn't tallied cross-game.
You can also get an idea of how hardcore a player is from achievements. A gamerscore of 3000 isn't that impressive if I've played 50 games. But if I've only played 3, then I've obviously spent a hell of a lot of time mastering those games.
The word "accomplishments" comes from the GS review, genius.so you got confused cause i called it achievements instead of accomplishments?

yea but challenging yourself is lame.Achievements are overrated... It's something a dev puts as a challenge instead of you.

ok you what to get to level 99 but to what end? once you get there its like "big ****ing whoop." achievements give you a reason to shoot for it.
conversely, if your an achievement whore, you may find ti tedious to do such a tack just for a few measly points, but you dont HAVE to do it. And in the event you were going to do it anyway, its kinda like "cool, atleast it was worth it"

Yeah I get it, but it's nothing excpetional, achievements encourage you to do it. Thats all, it would've been more better if by X% unlocked achievement you get a new mission, or a side quest.Achievements are very over rated. For me I would rather have rankings with a perfect grade for a single game (that would be something to brag about. In the Socom games I try to keep a high grade average while gaining ranks and unlocking other weapons to use. Hint when the grades are high the team work in the next game is much better and the team mates are also much better at what they do in single player games. One day I would like to beat all these games with straight "A"s in all ranks.
Then the MOH and COD games I want to unlock all the unlockables as well as getting any medel or any other prize a game offers. This kind of thing is what a true gamer should be aiming for instead of having these cross game achievements that really shows no real skill at a single game, heck anybody can get a bunch of points in several different games but that doesn't take any skill at all.
True skill is when you can sneak up on a target and take them out silently with a knife or rifle butt. Or you can snipe a target at as far as 200 meters with a single head shot. Or you can capture a target without being shot at with a stun grenade or a smoke and intimidate combination. These take true skill over anything else.

...Have you perhaps lost you mind?
What I don't like, is if there is more to do in a game, due to the developers, if you get all 1000pts. You aren't rewarded for achieving even more with the game.
For instance, SOTN offers some amazing secrets, secrets that an Achievement hound wouldn't mess with once he was done. There are many neat things in games that can be overlooked due to this flaw in developers not being organized or equal.

achievement in a sense drive ppl to play the game more. and when they accomplish something and get a certain achievement it brings them happiness in a sense, because its acknowledgement for what you accomplished in the game. makes the person to continue playing the game.

Does there have to be a freaking award for everything? Why do people need a pat on the back? Be glad you were able accomplish what you did just for the sake of accomplishing it.

Difference being... 360 achievements you earn are tied to your gamertag and stored in Xbox Live. They're in ALL 360 games and can be shared.
There are none. What the heck are you suprised at? fanboy.I'm not suprised that it flopped.

dont be ignorant as to why people like. its simple nature, every single game invented is built on a work vs reward system, every sport and part of human life. You work for money to get things.
The little "achievement unlocked" is that reward part of it. I personally have played a ton of 360 games and only have like 6000 points, so im not going headlong into the achievements, but if its something i get along the way of playing (getting my 10k kills on gears) it feels damn nice. But im not going to sit there like some just scrolling through the achievement list to get everything, but you sure cant blame them.
its the same why people would sit at an arcade machine till they get their own high score, you work to get there and seeing your name on the leaderboard is your reward

It's simple nature for who? If it was for everyone, then why would I, or anyone else not care about it? Although I don't care about getting praised for playing sports, I play sports because I love playing them. Also, I can't believe you compared video games to sports and human life.
I never said what I think is the way, I just don't understand why while playing a freaking video game people feel the need to be rewarded with a simple "good job!"
