Yes, the Wii U is the start of the 8th console generation. However, gens do not start and end at the same time, there is an overlap period. It makes no sense calling the ps3 and 360 "last gen" when they are respectively Sony and Microsoft's CURRENT offerings. once all 3 consoles hit the market that will change. and the 8th gen will become the "current gen" as it stands right now it would be most accurate to say we are at the beginning of the 8th gen and the end of the 7th.

Well technically until Wii U offers something that is really above or maybe even a multiplat that has some enhanced stuff like the PC version, he has a point.

No he doesnt. Graphics arent what determine a generation. Wii U has garbage graphics, but it is a next gen console.

This is NOW the 8th Generation of gaming history. So WiiU (as well as Vita/3DS) is a CURRENT Generation Console and 360/PS3 are last generation, which is 7th Generation.
The right words now arent exactly clear. Calling the wiiu next gen is okay imo, since its peers arent even out yet. I would find it odd to call the 720 a current gen console. When all three consoles are out and games star drying out on the 360 and ps3 then we can drop the "next gen" title . Imo
