Check out these sites on the construction quality of the PS3 and the X360. Notice how the PS3 LOOKS better built with a far superior cooling system than the X360. The PS3 is completely surrounded with metal (heat dissipation) and it has a MUCH larger heatsink with a much larger fan. The problem with both systems is that they have fans that push air all over the inside of the systems. Over the long term, I am guessing dust will build up everywhere. However, the PS3's computer board is COMPLETELY surrounded with metal and a super large heatsink, so even with lots of dust, the PS3 should be cooler than the X360.

Sony and Microsoft should have designed their consoles so that consumers could easily open them and clean out the dust, like in desktop computers. They should have also created the cooling system so that the airflow only blew on the heatsinks and metal, not into the computer board. This way, only the heatsinks and metal collect dust, while the computer stays mostly dust free. They should also use copper conduits to connect the computer board to the heatsinks and surrounding metal to facilitate heat dissipation.

Anyhow, for the long run, PS3 looks like the better built system.

As for games, I don't like either the PS3 games and X360 games that are currently available. I do look forward to Call of Duty 4 and Resident Evil 5. I know this is highly improbable, but I would love to see Megaman for the PS3, but in the form of a 3-D platform shooter, like the Ratchet and Clank coming out for the PS3. Then add a multi-player feature with Megaman converting to different bosses to use different abilities and weapons.

From a reliability perspective. From a game development standpoint it is quite debatable.

The 360's flaw is the soder between the heat sink and CPU. Everything else was fine. Billion dollar mistake, though.

Of course.

Sony isn't flooded with people complaining about scratched Discs/Red Rings etc. I'd love to see the halobois debate this.

Not only is the PS3 a tank but from what I have heard the customer service for returning a broken PS3 is actually quite good. I still can't believe it takes 8 weeks or 2 months to get a refurbished 360.

And that joke of a warranty just covers the RROD and nothing else so in that what good is a warranty that covers only one of many problems doesn't mean a lot.

Any one that owns a PS3 knows that the console was built to last for years, not just until the next console is released.

Sony specializes in making hardware (tv, blu ray player, cameras etc...) so they know how to make reliable hardware that lasts for years. Where as microsoft specializes in software, besides the xbox/zune they dont have any other hardware products, hence the 360 is built like a piece.

aye it certainyl seems to be. ive only heard a couple of stories of borked PS3s (which is normal..also heard some wii stories). however its about bloody time they got it right....there supposed to specialise in hardware.

both the PS1 and PS2 had higher failure rates than their competitors. the disc drives in both machines were very poor.

I think Sony is losing A LOT of consumers by forgetting to market how the PS3 is built so much better than the X360. Sony could have done some major press damage to Microsoft by showing the PS3's complex build and cooling system, and then showing Xbox's weak build and faulty cooling system.

Sony should also advertise that it is easier to upgrade the hard drive on the PS3 than it is to upgrade the hard drive on the X360. The PS3 hard drive uses a standard 2.5" laptop hard drive, SATA, and 5,400 rpm. Just buy the 40GB or 60 GB PS3 for $499, instead of the $699 80GB PS3. Use that $100 you saved to buy a much bigger hard drive off the internet.

The PS3 can play Blu-Ray DVD movies, whereas the X360 requires you to buy an additional drive, which makes the PS3 and X360 cost roughly the same (prices could have changed, so I am currently unsure of this). Yet, the PS3 still has a superior build, superior cooling, better hard drive set up, has more connections, better support for mouse and keyboard, superior reliability, and Blu-Ray DVD is better than HD-DVD (in my opinion and according to most businesses). The only thing questionable about the PS3 is the controller: PS3 was obviously ripping off Nintendo's idea with the 3-D movement control, and I predict the vast majority of PS3 games will NOT need 3-D motion detector on the controller.

Sony is horribly marketing the PS3. Sony has the superior product, but they forgot to market this information, and Sony is depending on the popularity of the PS2 to sell the PS3. Sony has no one to blame but itself for its current last place standing. Nonetheless, I know the truth, so I will probably get a PS3 when Call of Duty 4 or Resident Evil 5 comes out.

And in the end its the one with the superior quality hardware that ends up with flop software.

Much superior pretty much sums it up.

Not to mention it stays whisper quiet when I'm playing either R6 Vegas, GRAW 2, Tekken 5 DR Online, Warhawk, Resistance or NG Sigma, playing a BD movie like 300 or playing any of my old PS or PS2 games.

Lucky for me Sony made such a durable product to handle the hours of abuse I put it through.

Since this is SYSTEM WARS, I am going to make things fun by turning up the debate on Wii vs X360 vs PS3 vs PC:

Nintendo Wii = Honda Civic = affordable, yet, still fun, good design, and superb build quality; a great primary or secondary buy

Microsoft Xbox 360 = Cadillac CTS = expensive and fun, but disappointing reliability and superficial design; definitely not premium stuff --- just don't tell this to its ignorant, in-denial owners (haha)

Sony Playstation 3 = BMW 3 series = expensive, but high performance, excellent design, and well built; premium stuff; only a few people will be lucky enough to afford and enjoy it; everyone else deep down wants it, but openly snears at the lucky few who own it, to make themselves feel better

PC Gaming = customized cars or exotic automobiles = can range from cheaply built trash, to super-performance, unparalleled design, and bullet-proof quality stuff; can be cheap or unbelievably expensive; nonetheless, requires the most user skill to properly own and properly maintain than the previous three options

The best thing is to get a Nintendo Wii for Mario Kart Wii, Megaman Wii, Super Smash Brothers Wii, etc. Nintendo Wii is great for simple fun for everyone. If you are lucky enough to afford it, also get a Sony Playstation 3 for a premium gaming experience. Get a Microsoft Xbox 360 if you cannot afford a PS3, but you are willing to settle for an inferior imitation. If you have lots of money and the skills, then also build a gaming PC for an extreme gaming experience.

What's your analogy?

Not only does the X360 have poor solder, but it has poor ventillation, poorly-designed heat sinks, the disc drive is oversensitive to motion (causing disc scratches), and HD-DVD is technically inferior to Blu-Ray DVD, yet a X360 that is similary equiped to a PS3 is about the same price as the PS3.

Even with the Microsoft "fix," the PS3 still looks MUCH better built and MUCH better designed. PS3 is premium stuff, unfortunately, not everyone can afford premium stuff, or they could, but they don't want to spend that much money. Lucky for them, there is the Nintendo Wii (and to a lesser degree, the X360).

I'm writing this in reply on my Microsoft ergonomic keyboard while using my intellimouse both good bits of hardware along with scores of other great controllers. Or do they not count? Imo logitech is teh godz for mice.

Also as a rule of thumb you can have something done fast, well, or cheap. pick two.

And While that looks contradicting believe me it is. I too believe m$ didn't do their homework on this one but to say m$ has no other hardware experience is a load.

Additionally sony has had major problems with both ps1 and 2 that did not have to happen. something about a plastic gear train in the ps 1 and i think there is some lawsuit pending on the ps2 dont remember the details.

I dunno about the build quality, but PS3 has a cooling system designed by the gods. I sure hope MS took one apart and took notes.
