(the first paragraph is old news)

we could be seeing 350GBP ps3s by late summer according to Michael Pachter, an analyst for US investment firm Wedbush. thats because productoin of the blue laser LED - a crucial component of the blu-ray play - is increasing faster than originally predicted. the knock on effect is that the unit cost of producing the h-def disc reader, and so the PS3, is falling faster thatn anticipated.

/old news

some retailers like WHSmith and Play.com are already pushing sub- £400 deals instead of the 425 RRp. Gameto.com, meanwhile, dropped the price of its PS3s to 359.99 over a weekend in April, before settilingback on 399.99. think ahead totraditional pre-christmas season price drop and the console could befalling from santas sleigh for evenless.

btw...when the PS2 launched over here it was £300 (i thnk) so a ps3 for 350 would bejaw-dropping

If the PS3 drops it price by alot, it wont be a good thing.... It will give the indication that their machine is not that great. When people see prices drop on items its for 2 reasons... #1. The technology is considered less cutting edge and something better is around the corner. Or, #2. The company is going out of business

So which of these 2 applies to Sony??? Regardless of what the real reason is, or what they report, its the way we think. Its how the world has brain washed us.

In Short its not a good idea for a piece of technology to drop in price so early on in its life cycle.

Just converting from one currency to another is meaningless.

Yup, that's right. Price of goods is taken in context of the current market. Everything is more expensive in the UK, you can't really currency convert like that.

That's the price that I've been predicting. $499 in America and £350 in the UK.

It's still over the typical £299 barrier though, and no doubt the 360 will be getting a price drop so I don't see Sony that much better off than they are now. Having said that though, the 360 has had amazing deals since the end of last year with many retailers now giving away 2 games free, so maybe the PS3 will benefit fromt hat too.

The Xbox dropped £100 in price just one month after launch in the UK, and in the end that and the fact that they were practically giving it away at Christmas the same year is what allowed it to live while the Gamecube died in the UK.

Well, they don't exactly need more sales in England. They need to boost sales in America for more userbase and in Japan for more developers. Europe is already the most Sony aligned region.

Nice opinion there, but don't try to pass it off as fact. I don't think nothing like you, and am sure millions of others don't either. Because trust me, if the PS3 takes a big prices drop, nobody is going to all of a sudden think the PS3 is crap, and we all know Sony isn't going out of business. Truth is, if it gets a big price drop, alot of people are going to buy it (me being one of them). When that happens, the developers will take notice. Then you will start seeing them wanting to make games for the PS3 again.

And before you try to just brush me aside as a sony fanboy......save it, I am what you guys call a "Hermit". I am a PC gamer and could really care less on what console does what. But just like how I want the best PC I can get, I also want the best console I can get for my kids. The Wii just isn't cutting in on graphics. Gameplay and graphics both matter to me, not just gameplay. The 360 is a POS that breaks down way to often to warrent buying that system. So I am really stuck with one option until Microsoft fixes the 360's issues. But even with that one option, I refuse to pay $600, so my kids will play their Gamecube and PS2 until there is a good console within reason of price. If the PS3 gets a bigprice drop before Microsoft addresses the 360's issues, then it will be the PS3 that gets my money.

If you shop around and include bundle deals you can already get the system for less than that.
