According to an analyst, Nick Parker, PS3 is on course to sell around 4 million units in Europe by next year with 1 to 1.5 million sold in UK. Nick Parker is predicting PS3 will overtake Wii in terms of total sale world wide. Also, the sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 have increased just 1% over same period from last year. This is indicative of 360's demand leveling off ahead of PS3 launch. PS3 will go on sale across the Europe this Friday with about 1 million units hitting the retailers.

I think the most interesting part is that retailers are predicting pre-Christmas price cut for the PS3 system. With part reduction coming for PAL region, the price was expected to go down soon or later. If you're in North America I suggest you don't wait for price cut if you intend to use your PS3 to play your old PS2 games. We don't know when Sony will start selling gimped version of PS3 in North America.

even if the ps3 didnt outsell the wii even if it came close to it, it would be a massive achievment. (a console twice the price that appeals to a smaller audiance )

That article has already been beaten to death. By the way, its quite impssible for PS3 to even get close to the Wii in the next year. In order for that to happen, Nintendo would have to sell exactly zero Wiis in that time.

Even if PS3 does sell what this "analyst" projects, for it to surpass Wii and Xbox 360 in sales, those 2 consoles would have to completely stop selling altogether. No way will PS3 overtake either of its competition by the end of 2008.

And as for projecting what PS3 will sell... how many units are abundantly available on store shelves here in NA, even just 2 months after launch? Didn't everybody say PS3 would sell out all its short supply?

Just for suggestiing such a ridiculous premise, he really should be sacked as an analyst. There's no way of it out selling the Wii this year, unless it suddenly became a huge success everywhere and the Wii didn't sell any mroe units for the whole year.

Long-awaited PlayStation 3 about to hit Europe, rest of world

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070321/tc_afp/afplife****amecompanysonyeurope;_ylt=AlqH40vcM1r8k_mN3tndTV0jtBAF

PARIS (AFP) - A boat will ferry a special consignment of PlayStation 3s to the foot of the Eiffel Tower as hardcore gamers queue in the cold at special midnight openings across Europe when Sony's next-generation console hits stores on Friday. "The launch of Playstation 3 will be the biggest video games console launch of all time", said Jim Batchelor, entertainment head at Britain's Woolworths' department store. "It will be bigger than the launch of the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360 and the previous Playstation," he added. At least one man was shot in the chaotic US launch of the PS3 four months back, and punch-ups reported across the nation as gamers and profiteers scrambled for scarce stocks of the long-awaited machines. As the state-of-the-art consoles made their way onto Internet auction site eBay, prices rocketed into the thousands of dollars.

Of the million PS3 consoles that set off from China under high security three weeks ago for this week's launch, some 300,000 are destined for Britain and 100,000 for France, 60,000 of them pre-ordered, said Sony Computer Entertainment France. "Our initial stock of Nintendo Wiis sold out in just seven minutes but our initial allocation of PlayStation 3 has been considerably higher and we have seen very strong pre-order sales on this console," said James Schall, videogames manager for Amazon.co.uk. In Paris, enthusiasts who failed to book ahead are being offered a tiny consignment of 1,000 on board a boat by the landmark Eiffel Tower, while specialist stores such as Virgin Megastore are to open at midnight Thursday across the country. In London the PS3, which was launched in Japan and the US in November and is equipped with a Cell microprocessor 40 times faster than PlayStation 2, will go on sale at midnight in Virgin Megastores. But because of production costs, Sony is making available only its more expensive 60-gigabyte version for Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia.

The price tag is high -- at 599 euros (780 dollars), 425 British pounds, 999.95 Australian dollars and 1,199.95 New Zealand dollars. That makes it the most expensive of the new-generation video consoles, against 399 euros or 299 euros for versions of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and 249 euros for Nintendo's Wii. "More than 90 percent of demand in Japan and the US is for this (60-gigabyte) model," said Georges Fornay, the European vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment. Fornay also told AFP that only 1,200 PlayStation 2 games would be compatible with the PS3, which comes with around 30 new games. PlayStation 3 consoles feature Internet browsers, wireless controllers with motion-sensing capabilities, and a Blu-ray DVD reader. Electronics giant Sony released it last year only in the key North American and Asian markets where it was delayed about six months due to a glitch with the high-definition DVD player. The rollout in Europe was also pushed back until March due to production problems. Sony hopes to sell six million by end March against 10.4 million Xbox 360s sold in a year and six million Wii consoles, which were launched last November. PlayStations have long dominated the home video-game market, with the original version and PlayStation 2 selling more than 100 million each

Why is this thread all CAPS when its nothing important. Accoring to an analyst, Nick Parker.....whos Nick Parker. You can put any name up there and it would mean nothing. It might as well be Nick Cannon.

Just remembered something. Years ago, Sony Pictures got into trouble for fabricating film critics. They would give good reviews of bad movies and the critics name and newspaper would be totally made up.

I'm thinking Sony is fabricating analysts now.

Wii is beating PS3 badly in US and Canada. Wii is also beating PS3 by a lot in Japan.

Despite the fact that Gundam, one of the most anticipated titles for PS3 this year in Japan, was released 2 weeks ago, giving PS3 a much needed boost and all that, PS3 still didn't come close to beating Wii for those 2 weeks when it's released. Considering that nothing big was released for the Wii in the past few weeks and it's still selling much better than PS3, it doesn't look like PS3 is going to outsell Wii this year in Japan, not a chance.

When Brain Age hits Japan next month or whenever, it's going to be game over for PS3 this year.

As for US, when PS3 actually come close to beating Wii in monthly sales, this analyst can talk again.

As for Europe, selling 4 million PS3 by the end of this year seems unlikely, but even if Sony managed to sell 4 million in Europe, still won't come close to beating Wii this year, unless Sony managed to sell more than 12 million between US and Japan this year, just impossible.

notice that feb 19 and feb 5 are jumps. hardly consistent. also it's still sold out. unlike the low selling ps3.

 http://www.vgcharts.org/japconscomps.php?name1=Wii&name2=&type=0&align=1

you'll see a lot of up and down movement all based on supply available.

Yet it's sold out every time. Seems they're buying all they can. And I really don't see how this helps the PS3 surpass the Wii, it's doing a lot worse then the Wii is.

As for Europe, selling 4 million PS3 by the end of this year seems unlikely, but even if Sony managed to sell 4 million in Europe, still won't come close to beating Wii this year, unless Sony managed to sell more than 12 million between US and Japan this year, just impossible.

surpass the wii? analysts are funny.Ontain

I was thinking the same thing.

Does Nick Parker realize that the PS3 on sold 127,000 in the U.S. in the month of Feb? The Wii sold like 330,000 in Feb? Also in Japan, the PS3 is only selling just over 19,000 units a week, while the Wii is selling over 75,000 each week in Japan. The PSP is even outselling the PS3 and it's been out for well over a year.

http://www.the-magicbox.com/topten.htm

You still can't find a Wii in Japan, Europe or the U.S. Nintendo is now holding all shipments of Wii until the end of March. Then they will send one huge shipment to U.S., Europe and Japan retailers.

The PS3 won't catch the Wii for a long time. Maybe sometime in 2009, but I really doubt it.

Anything is possible. PS3 has yet to fire off one of it's big games (probably a mistake) and has yet to launch in Europe and the rest of the world like the Wii and 360 have. Thats one thing people are always forgetting when they bring up sales. PS3 is only in 2 territories, and with only two territories, it has outpaced X360 this time last year.

Wii only has 800k sales more than PS3 in North America. Can you really consider that domination? I mean the Wii has Zelda, and it's half the price. PS3 will win the console war though.

isn't sony the company that got busted for publishing a fake movie critics recomendations?  sounds like that fictional movie critic went into game analist when he got fired from his fictional movie job.

You really think PS3 will win the war? I agree with the 2 regions thing, but i live in the UK, and seriously, no one is really caring about PS3 Launch, no preorders i know of are sold out and Argos (a big retailer) have even said that you can just walk in on the day to pick up a PS3 - no need to preorder. Now, it might just generally sell out, but if a console can't sell out at launch from its usually fanboys, then i dont see it winning the generation, especially against the wii.

Have you seen wii weekly sales in JPN?? there at like 40K

Theyre double that most weeks, and the PS3 is a lot lower, you know. It can hardly surpass the Wii if it's not selling more then it.

January 1 - 7, 2007
Wii - 195,331

January 15 - 21, 2007
Wii - 86,395

January 22 - 28,
Wii - 83,754

January 29 - February 4, 2007
Wii - 65,740

February 5 - 11, 2007
Wii - 78,550

February 12 - 18, 2007
Wii - 63,618

February 19 - 25, 2007
Wii - 78,506

February 26 - March 4, 2007
Wii - 57,972

March 5 - 11, 2007
Wii - 44,495

Looks like its been pretty much been consistently dropping

notice that feb 19 and feb 5 are jumps. hardly consistent. also it's still sold out. unlike the low selling ps3.

 http://www.vgcharts.org/japconscomps.php?name1=Wii&name2=&type=0&align=1

you'll see a lot of up and down movement all based on supply available.

tell me where the supply went???

since  NA NPD

Jan Wii = 435K

February = 235K

fact is people are now begining to realise wii is pretty GC games played differently, Now that Zelda (A highly rated system seller) is gone the console weakness is begining to show.

Now look at PS3, No heavy hitters so far and its easily double Price of wii.

When you factor in PS3 gettings its really system sellers late 07 its easy to see why ps3 should outsell wii by year end

Just as everyone's trying to say, considering that PS3 was doing "very good" for those 2 weeks because of Gundam, Wii still ousold it by a good number, so what I said was true, PS3 still didn't come very close to beating Wii in those 2 weeks.

Since this thread is about an analyst predicting that PS3 will outsell Wii worldwide this year, the foucs isn't only on how much Wii dropped in sales or rumor on PS3 price drop, we should look at the possibility of PS3 actually beating Wii in worldwide monthly sales for the rest of the year, obviously PS3 already lost badly to Wii in Jan and Feb. As I pointed out, even if PS3 does surprising well in Europe, it doesn't look like it's going to beat Wii anytime soon in US and Japan, so it just doesn't look like this analyst is right, he might have a point if PS3 is already showing signs of catching up to the Wii in US and Japan, but so far it's not.

Where you got Feb = 235k from? I think it's more like 330k, no?

PS3 Jan = around 200k

PS3 Feb = around 130k

Wii still in much more demand than PS3, that is a fact, and it's much harder to find Wii's in stores because they are sold out. If Wii's demand dropped a lot like what you are trying to imply, what does it say about PS3? Very little to no demand?

You can keep on bringing up the price, but that doesn't help, using your logic, a slightly upgraded GC is beating the crap out of PS3, which Sony has to lose money on each unit or otherwise people won't buy them.

Does that sound good to you?

Sorry, Its suppose to be 335K

And look at PS3 and PS2, Are any of the System sellers from PS2 on PS3???   Nope, And PS3 is Like Double the price of PS2

Wii on the other hand is  Is less than half the price of PS3 and has a heavy hitter Zelda TP.

FActor that is now Wii = Half Price of PS3 and has a heavy hitter, Its suppose to outsell PS3 now

but things will change once FF XIII, MGS4, DMC4 , GT5 come along
