I think it's you who needs the explanation given to you, sir. :|

Fair enough, I suppose. How about this? Show me any PC game, this gen, that sold 3+ million copies in 12 days.

EDIT: Correction - 3 million for Halo 3 in 12 days, not 3 days.

While i dont have a link..im Sure that The Orange Box sold well over 3 million in the first week..and HL2

Haha 22 pages of console users trying to downplay the figure.

Whichever way you look at it 3 million copies sold is impressive, the developers pretty much self owned themselves declaring the game didn't sell well enough too soon.

The thing is it sold this many copies over a period of time, as in outside the hype period, games that sell the most in a matter of days are because people are over hyped.

This goes right along with my argument of comparing the ways consoles operate with PC, Far Cry is still available in retail today; games on PC sell slower than consoles but they sell significantly longer if they are good.

AnnoyedDragon

Nobody is denying that any game selling 3 million is good. The CONTEXT of the thread, as shown in the title, is what those 3 million sales means for PC gaming. The TC is NOT making the claim of "Hey! Crysis sold quite well!". No. He is making the claim that Crysis selling 3 million copies means PC gaming is an unbelievable success.

Clearly many people have reasons for disagreeing with that claim.

Yet another idiot hermit falling for the obvious BS rofl rofl rofl.

Yes, we get it, you're the most intelligent person on these forums, I mean, you're the only one who understands that the 18.8 billion figure you showed me in the other thread, which was stated to be the overall video game sales figure, is, in fact, only for consoles, despite the fact that as an overall figure, the PC and handhelds have to be taken into account, too.

I subtracted 5 billion, and I think I was being quite generous on top of that. Considering how PC gaming in that spectrum only generated 911 million in the US Market (which was the 18.8 figure), I gave handhelds a guestimate of roughly 4 billion in sales, which is probably way too high. Hence the "Subtract 5 billion for giggles".

More hermits in denial.

I dont know what you are confused on besides the fact that those games have sold quite well. I think this whole topic of sales is pointless. Who cares honestly? You know PC gaming is not dead, you are still playing games on it aren't you?

I think it gets to a point where there has to be sticky for this topic because there is just way to much garbage floating around this thread involving sales. It just gets old.

Ah I see so someone necroed the thread even after it was proven false? Please excuse the lack of reading through, it is 24 pages long after all.

However I consider not taking the console users word for it justifiable, they downplay every statistic to come out for PC gaming for biased reasons. So when console users cry wolf it is hard to take them seriously, maybe if they brought up some decent reasons for declaring most figures fake I wouldn't assume bias.

Blizzard Entertainment's highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft broke the day one sales record for computer games with nearly 2.4 million copies of The Burning Crusade sold. Some of the expansion's notable features include a higher level cap, controllable flying mounts, and a new continent to explore.

Day-one sales totals on both continents were similar, with an estimated total of nearly 1.2 million copies sold on the first day in North America and an estimated total of more than 1.1 million copies sold in Europe within the first 24 hours of launch.* By the end of the first day of availability on both continents, a total of more than 1.7 million players had already logged in and upgraded World of Warcraft to play The Burning Crusade."

Day-one sales totals on both continents were similar, with an estimated total of nearly 1.2 million copies sold on the first day in North America and an estimated total of more than 1.1 million copies sold in Europe within the first 24 hours of launch.* By the end of the first day of availability on both continents, a total of more than 1.7 million players had already logged in and upgraded World of Warcraft to play The Burning Crusade."

i don't think anyone is disputing that MMORPGs are the money making force in PC gaming.WoW probably make up more than half of PC gaming revenue. It's practically on all the best selling PC game charts worldwide.

Plus, atleast consoles have spinoffs.

Not more milkage - I mean expansions.

M337ING

Rock Band would like to have a word with you.

And so would Guitar Hero.

Look as far as I'm concerned each platform has their own pros and cons. They also have their own way of milkage as well. The bottom line is you spend money no matter which platform you game on, that my friends is a fact. So please sitting here argueing about something such as sales and coasts are just rediculous. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

[QUOTE="farrell2k"]It took the PC, with an install base of over 200+ million, 6 months to sell 3 million copies of its most anticipated title. It took the 360, with an install base of 20+ million, 3 or 4 days to sell 3 million. Do you really NOT see the problem with that? Does it have to be explained to you guys? Jamex1987

Tell me when the 360 has anywhere near as much game competition as the PC, and tell me where it has the annoying problem of user alienation from system requirements, and tell me whether Crysis had anywhere near the marketing and hype that Halo 3 had.

I think it's you who needs the explanation given to you, sir. :|

Fair enough, I suppose. How about this? Show me any PC game, this gen, that sold 3+ million copies in 12 days.

EDIT: Correction - 3 million for Halo 3 in 12 days, not 3 days.

45% of the hermit dollar goes to milking

Pathetic.

M337ING

Looks at Wii sales, 50,000 versions of Pokemon, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Play Resort, Animal Crossing, carnival Games, Halo Wars, Halo Chronicles, 50 Mario games in last decade, 20 Final Fantasy games, Far Cry Vengence, sdvnnvsanp !! M337ING IS CONFUSED!

Lol @ paying monthly for literally THE SAME GAME you paid retail price for.

It's like being charged to by the half hour to watch a movie after you paid admission. Max milkage achieved.

At least we don't have to pay $50 a year to get a great online experience for any of our games.

Which is worse? Paying $50.00 to play probably over 1000 games online or paying $14.95 a month to play a single game? Imagine if you wanted to play 2 mmo games that's almost $30 a month so most people only play one. One company is dominating PC game revenue and others are struggling to get a piece of the cake.

No human has the time to dedicatedly play more than 1 MMO at a time.

Depends on who you are. Wow fanatics would choose the 14.95 option.

$4.00 a week is nothing for me also and $50 a year is pocket change. What I find funny about hermits is that they criticize Xbox Live subscribers for paying $50.00 a year while their platform is fed by subscription online gaming.

According to the latest issue of PC Gamer UK, Crysis has sold a whopping 3 million copies in half a year. I don't think I'm allowed to post scans, but I'm sure some of my fellow hermits can confirm this.

Also, Crysis Warhead is apparently going to be revealed in next month's issue... :D

BUT TEH PC GAMING IZ DYING!!??!?!?!

dgsag

Yeah, for a SINGLE game selling 3 million copies on PC, it's an impressive number. But it even more so showed why PC gaming is dead. This game sold 3 million copies in half a year, while like ten console games sold 3 million copies in a matter of weeks. Need we say more?

Great. Got any other titles with 3 million sales, or are we just holding onto scraps from 2007?

Compare this to GTA 4 and it's just a joke.

right, but Sub online gaming is a CHOICE...you have the CHOICE to buy that game and CHOOSE to pay monthy for it...your not FORCED to pay for online gaming..thats the difference between XBL and games such as WOW..one if i dont pay for its fine..the other if i dont pay im missing a huge part of the experience..

Playing online is a choice. You can buy the game and not play online and save the $50.00

well IIRC there are no HUGE pc games coming out right now..in the coming months sure but nothing as of now..

GTA4 was multiplat and hyped to hell..it wont sell that much on PC due to having almost no hype and coming out a month late...

no..you missed the point..

IF you pay for pc monthly subs and decide not to pay to play anymore..than there a thousands of OTHER PC games that are online capapible that dont require a montly fee

IF you want to play online on the 360 you HAVE to pay 50 and year for it there is no substitution, so even if i ever wanted to play online. i have to pay 50 and if i back out of it..i loose the online experience, because nobody just wants to play singleplayer games..and now that online gaming has had a huge focus its a no brainer to get online for any console..
