I'm calling B.S. on this. Unadulterated B.S. Seeing as how no one plays Crysis online, and seeing as how the game barely sold 400k in it's first MONTH, I seriously doubt there was some major overhaul in the product.usmcjdk6

its first month was 2 weeks long...

It released in the middle of November and people started saying the sky was falling because it didn't get 1 million in 2 weeks....

6 months ago EA announced it broke 1 million. Is it so hard to believe it has passed 3 million now?

I can pull out GRAW right now and find more people online that 2 1/2 old game that sold less than on Crisis.

These numbers are pure publicity B.S. to boost sales. This is EA we are talking about here confirming these numbers. They aren't known to be the bastion of truth.

Games don't exponentially sell better. Only one developer has that success, and that's Blizzard.

Where is the logic in all of this? According to Crytek themselves, the fact that the game didn't sell enough, is the reason why they no longer will be making games exclusively on the PC.

Half Life 2 solid four and half million, and Crytek is throwing a fit over their game not selling enough, when its sold three million units?

Don't know what to say to be honest.

As I've already said, only 5 Xbox 360 games have sold over that, 3 PS3 games and 7 Wii games.

In their last monthly update, Crytek denied this and said they're making multi-play games only because the tech supports it.

But seriously, how can you the game didn't sell enough when the nigh impossible to run Crysis sells three million?

It's easier to throw less impressive FPSs on consoles and sell just as much as an amazing one on a PC -- because console FPS players are oblivious to PC games.

Epic is doing it, Activision is doing it, Valve is starting to, Bioshock, and Farcry is also going to consoles.

Crytek just likes to make it look like they are amazing devs and are victims of the rampant pirating when in reality they just want more money for less work -- and who wouldn't?

Look at the requiremnents. Many people are not buying the game because they can't run it. Wait another year when there the hardware is strong enough to max the game at a high setting then the game will sell like crazy and online will be packed. quote me wait by the end of the year.

The fact of the matter is, most games don't break the one million mark(Platinum seller) so obviously three million is huge. I think people have grown too accustomed with hearing Eight million from Halo sales or Ten million from GTA4 sales that they automatically think that is the standard by which all game sales are measured against, and that just isn't true. The standard is around 800,000-5 million.

As said by the TC:

According to the latest issue of PC Gamer UK, Crysis has sold a whopping 3 million copies in half a year. I don't think I'm allowed to post scans, but I'm sure some of my fellow hermits can confirm this.

umm.... benchmark games that push new systems do sell like that... Look back at Far Cry.

Sold less than 200,000 in the first month. Far Cry sold 730,000 units within four months of release. Sales for Benchmark titles don't dissipate. People buy these games when they upgrade. And upgrading isn't something done on a whim... Takes time for people to finally upgrade.

The PC market is DRASTICALLY different from the console market. Games sustain their sales for months, or even years on the PC.

Yeah I don't think anyone is desperate enough to lie about an upcoming issue of PC Gamer.

It's funny becasue so many people are in disbelief over this because they actually thought PC games don't sell.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing outside of EA to even suggest these astronomical sales. The online is barren. Their forums are unused. It has almost no half the player reviews on any website as some games that supposedly sell half. The new generation of GPUs have been selling well, but not at some atronomical pace I can't believe you morons are putting your eggs in the EA basket.

I'm positive if the TC could post a link, he would, but because it's from a magazine and due to the Gamespot's TOS, he is unable to provide what you seek for.

However what you said is totally untrue - two console games, not all.

5 million????? try 500K....

Games are considered a huge success if they go platinum.

And if they go multi-platinum... Well... That game instantly becomes a franchise.

Far Cry PC had only sold million when Ubisoft started on Far Cry 2. Yet it was enough for Ubisoft to give the Far Cry 2 team a $50 million budget(albeit, that was also knowing that most of that would be made back from the engine which they plan on using both internally for future Ubisoft games and as a licensable engine outside Ubisoft). And that was when they thought they would be PC exclusive.

Publishers don't just do stuff like that. Far Cry was seen as a potentially multi-million dollar franchise for Ubisoft. And it has become that because they also set to work on Far Cry: Instincts. If Far Cry had simply been an "Average" selling game as you would have grouped it, Ubisoft would not have done that. I am guessing it took a lot for them to actually agree to a sequel to what WAS an average selling game with Beyond Good and Evil 2, which, they haven't officially committed to yet.

The only thing Crysis players talk about is system specs etc...

The online is terrible, the story is nothing worth discussing over on a forum -- what do you expect? and why is 3 million copies so unbelievable? It's a great game.

Stop beating around the bush. This game has the highest system specs out there, and yet it has outsold the vast majority of console titles released during this generation.

3 million. Didn't GTA IV hit that on April 29 - around lunchtime? lowe0

right... because GTA4 is SO normal in the industry...

It isn't like that game hasn't completely surpassed industry limits like Halo 3...

Gears of War sold 4.7 million copies.

And that is considered to be a HUGE success.

And that is after nearly 2 years out. So Crysis, a new IP with VERY restricting system requirements, is expected to keep pace with GTA 4 and Halo 3?

What a bunch of hypocrites you console fanboys are since those are the ONLY games that pull that level of success off...

I'm not actually trying to bash hermits here, believe it or not. I'm not even bashing Crysis. But there is not one inkling of PROOF this game has sold 3 million outside of what EA has said. What PC dev would cri moar and say "to hell with PC exclusivity" if their game sold 3 million in 8 months?

the logical solution, then, is to provide sales data that shows it to be wrong. can you provide this?

There is nothing, absolutely nothing outside of EA to even suggest these astronomical sales. The online is barren. Their forums are unused. It has almost no half the player reviews on any website as some games that supposedly sell half. The new generation of GPUs have been selling well, but not at some atronomical pace I can't believe you morons are putting your eggs in the EA basket.

Game companies simply aren't allowed to lie blatantly like this...

And PC Gaming is different to Console Gaming.

IVe anwsered this twice already, but logical its obvious, CRYTEK see themselves up there with EPIC GAMES, VALVE,BUNGIE, INFINITY WARD.

3 Million is some hot profit, but for a game like Crysis, if it was on 3 systems instead of one, the potential would be outstanding, so simple, Low PC sales ( Even though 3 million clearly isnt low by even console standards ) as a scapegoat to go multiplat.

3 million. Didn't GTA IV hit that on April 29 - around lunchtime? lowe0

Using your logic that boasting about Crysis's sales is trivial because they're less than that of GTA4 would automatically include about 99% of console games. :)

right... because GTA4 is SO normal in the industry...

Yep, theyre full of crap, yet somehow WoW that has outsold all thier games, and the expansion dont come into this equation, I bet they will leave Sims 3 out of it aswell.

Sometimes, i dont understand consolites... Make that most of the time...

We've shown time and time again that PC gaming is thriving, and they keep coming back for more...

You should've read my post...

I said the standard is FROM 800,000~give or take~ to 5 million. A lot of games have reached the five million mark.

VoodooGamer

no... not many reach 5 million... The only non-casual games in recent memory to do that on a single platform are Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy.

Gears didn't reach 5 million.

Assassins Creed didn't reach 5 million.

Super Smash Bros Brawl didn't break 5 million.

Call of Duty 4 didn't.

GTA 4 hasn't even passed 5 million on either one of the platforms yet(it will but that isn't the point).

3 million on a SINGLE PLATFORM is rare.
