Yep, theyre full of crap, yet somehow WoW that has outsold all thier games, and the expansion dont come into this equation, I bet they will leave Sims 3 out of it aswell.

Sometimes, i dont understand consolites... Make that most of the time...

We've shown time and time again that PC gaming is thriving, and they keep coming back for more...

Because you have sites like IGN telling them that Halo 3 is the "best FPS ever made," failing to remind them that 10 year old PC games have actually accomplished more than it.

I'm not actually trying to bash hermits here, believe it or not. I'm not even bashing Crysis. But there is not one inkling of PROOF this game has sold 3 million outside of what EA has said. What PC dev would cri moar and say "to hell with PC exclusivity" if their game sold 3 million in 8 months?

usmcjdk6

the logical solution, then, is to provide sales data that shows it to be wrong. can you provide this?

Sure.

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/archive

Look at the archives and backtrack all the way to Launch if you want to. Crysis has never, EVER surpassed Call of Duty 4 in weekly sales, despite having a one month later release launch, and it being outsold by 4x1.

The proof is in the pudding.

Bush lies, troops die.

EA lies, hermits eat up their crap and say it's rocky road ice cream.

NPD....

The world doesn't revolve around America you know.

The main market for this game is Crytek's native Germany where Crysis dominated the charts for 5 months.

And has IW ever validated your claim with COD4 PC sales numbers? No, they just tell us how the combined platforms have sold.

And let's add into the fact that according to http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50939

PC games amount for a shocking 14% of gaming software revenue. There is simply no way that lower tier Top 10 PC game sold 3 million in 8 months.

All the facts point to EA LYING.

Where is the logic in all of this? According to Crytek themselves, the fact that the game didn't sell enough, is the reason why they no longer will be making games exclusively on the PC.

Half Life 2 solid four and half million, and Crytek is throwing a fit over their game not selling enough, when its sold three million units?

Don't know what to say to be honest.

elbow2k

Valve just doesnt come out and say it.

Actions speak louder than words and Valve is already multiplatform like Crytek is soon to be.

what was the last better than mediocre FPS on the PC. No wonder this game sold so well, the PC has been starving for something that the consoles didn't get as well. In all honesty, while that number may seem large, it pales in comparison to the number of PC gamers. :|

So Crysis, a new IP with VERY restricting system requirements, is expected to keep pace with GTA 4 and Halo 3?

horrowhip

Crysis may require a powerful computer, but Halo 3 requires an Xbox 360 that HASN'T got RROD yet, so its also restricted in some ways :P

So I'm looking at March numbers for PC sales in the EU and Germany.

In the EU Crysis never broke 6th.

In Germany Crysis fluctuated between 1st and 4th. Germany's software sales during Crysis' release period have also been less than 700mil USD. Add in the inflated prices, and you've got a market about 1/16th the size of the US market.

EA is lying hermits. Sorry...

[QUOTE="lowe0"]3 million. Didn't GTA IV hit that on April 29 - around lunchtime? Meu2k7

right... because GTA4 is SO normal in the industry...

It isn't like that game hasn't completely surpassed industry limits like Halo 3...

Gears of War sold 4.7 million copies.

And that is considered to be a HUGE success.

And that is after nearly 2 years out. So Crysis, a new IP with VERY restricting system requirements, is expected to keep pace with GTA 4 and Halo 3?

What a bunch of hypocrites you console fanboys are since those are the ONLY games that pull that level of success off...

Yep, theyre full of crap, yet somehow WoW that has outsold all thier games, and the expansion dont come into this equation, I bet they will leave Sims 3 out of it aswell.

He didn't say WoW, he said Crysis. Are those goalposts getting heavy from moving them around? The OP listed one game as proof that his platform of choice isn't dying. I simply pointed out one game that doubled up his example in a single day. And if PC gamers are going to hold up a single game, Crysis, as the example of their platform's graphical superiority, then why isn't it fair for console fans to hold up a single game, GTA IV, as the standard-bearer for our platform of choice?

And here you go: "I, Kevin Lowe, admit that World of Warcraft has sold more copies than Grand Theft Auto IV." Suck on that.

In fact, I don't even believe PC gaming is dying. I just like arguing contrary positions. In reality, I'm of the opinion that games like Assassin's Creed and The Orange Box are the future - you'll see the same games, developed to the same quality (crap in AC's case, stellar in OB's) on both platforms.

I remember a recent report saying Valve is nearly getting more revenue from DD than retail :)

And PCs are the king of Digital Distribution. I have 2 one-TB hard drives inside my desktop PC so I have plenty of storage (unlike consoles) for DD games I buy in the future when I become a Steam customer later on.

According to the full article at http://www.gamerscircle.net/2005/01/11/wow-breaks-sales-records/

World of Warcraft has sold an AMAZING 82k units. Wow, how stellar, it's painfully obvious that this will significantly bump up the total sales of PC game juggernaut World of Warcraft.

Get your head out of your rectum. EA LIED.

And yet there's 10 million active subscribers out there. Whose case are you trying to help, yours or mine?

Seeing as the end of the first crysis was "halo2'd" (albeit a lot more impressively) I would hope it was a sequel.

That is the dumbest thing you could possibly say. 7 million is incredible considering the user base the 360 has. 3 million sucks when you compare it to the user base for PC's. Nice try but now you're just on damage control. Weak damage control at that too.

It's a flagship title that, for the most part, has flopped on sales. People don't normally buy what doesn't sell well. EA has every reason to boost this titles performance up waaaaay higher than it actually is. I'd put the number closer to 1.7-2 million and that's still stretching it. If 3 million people owned an 8 month old PC game, I don't care how good or bad the online is...PEOPLE WOULD BE FLOODING ONLINE.

Sorry...

Why have you taken this so personally? You really have nothing to go by, yet not only are you saying the numbers aren't correct, you're saying EA is lying about the numbers to boost sales. Until you provide a reputable source that refutes the 3 million claim, your just blowing hot air. Although, truth is, EA is the most reputable source, so....

[QUOTE="Nedemis"]what was the last better than mediocre FPS on the PC. No wonder this game sold so well, the PC has been starving for something that the consoles didn't get as well. In all honesty, while that number may seem large, it pales in comparison to the number of PC gamers. :|

Halo 3 sales pale in comparison to the number of PC gamers too...

but not to the number of 360 gamers which is where the comparison should be. You can not compare sales of one game for a certain ssytem to that of the user base of another platform of choice.

7 million for Halo 3 out of the hundreds of millions of people who own a console... not that many people.

That is the dumbest thing you could possibly say. 7 million is incredible considering the user base the 360 has. 3 million sucks when you compare it to the user base for PC's. Nice try but now you're just on damage control. Weak damage control at that too.

PC user =/= PC gamer. I am posting on a work PC right now. No Crysis here :(

call me what you want (personally i don't care....really) but it's quite obvious when someone ignores 99% of your post just so they can respond to the 1% that they can think of a response to, it clearly comes across as a fanboy move.

Think of it this way, Halo 3 is specifically designed to target a majority of the 360's audience.

Crysis is for the hardcore fanatics who love shooters and have a high quality system to boot.

No it honestly couldn't, not just graphics here either. There are thousands of visable bits of foliage in Crysis, and most of which react to physical events like bullet impact. No game on a console has ever done that to my knowledge, and probably never will.

yes, but isn't the one major advantage that PC gamers have to fall back on is that games are optimized to work on most configurations. My PC can run Crysis at medium settings so does that mean that my PC shouldn't count when compared to one that can run it at high? The point is that whether you built or purchased you PC within the last 5 years, most games are still accessible. My wifes PC on the other hand can't run jack seeing how it's almost 10 years old (I'm getting set to gut the sucker :) )
