I'm still waiting for a valid reason for consolites to "want" PC gaming to die. Seriously.aliblabla2007

There is no reason.no matter what Devloper or Consoleite can throw at it, it still is the best, free, open gameing platform around..and will continue to be that way for a VERY long time

Do I see some  ?

Why yes, I think I do. Bush Lies, Troops die. EA lies, hermits eat their crap and make it sound like rocky road ice cream.

Wait, so you revived a 2 month-old topic to insult someone about something that's true? Epic fail.

Proof that this is true. AFAIK EA, Crytek and PC Gamer UK has never stated Crysis sold 3 million. The thread was an epic fail.

I was strictly referring to his response to dgsag's comment that USA numbers don't represent how well a game is selling in Europe, especially on PC.

My argument wasn't that sales would reflect. My argument is that the U.S. holds the LION'S SHARE (by far) of PC Gaming, and it's doubtful that the EU is capable of purchasing more copies, and if it is, it's not by some extraordinary amount.

According to the latest issue of PC Gamer UK, Crysis has sold a whopping 3 million copies in half a year. I don't think I'm allowed to post scans, but I'm sure some of my fellow hermits can confirm this.

Also, Crysis Warhead is apparently going to be revealed in next month's issue... :D

BUT TEH PC GAMING IZ DYING!!??!?!?!

Its not Dying but halo 3 sold 3 million copies in 12 days... So its not Better then consoles either

When did Halo 3 reach 8 million again, and what sales does it have now?

Because console titles are notorious for being "high-jumps" in sales. PC games are more "long-jumps". There's a reason why Starcraft took so long to reach 9.5 million copies sold, but still reached it after all these years.

And that argument is wrong. The USA is by far the weakest territory in terms of revenue for PC. Asia - MMOs are all the rage, as are free-to-paly games. Korea holds constant tournaments with Counter-Strike and Blizzard's RTS games. In Europe, countries like germany have entire stores dedicated to PC games and some pharmacies even stock them. With PC gaming bringing in 11.7 billion last year in terms of software sales, you're saying that the USA's $3 billion contribution is a LION"s SHARE?

It was the best selling video game of 2007. And 9million is 3 times more then 3 million.

The Commericals payed off didnt they ?? Its not MS foult Crytek didnt market their game the way they should. Its called a great buisness move something you obviously dont know a thing aboute.

PC gaming was a $10.7 billion industry during the year of 2007, with retail sales accounting for just 30 percent of total revenues. According to the report, growth was largely driven by online revenues from Asia, the world's largest market, which is approaching half of total worldwide sales.

Online PC gaming revenue led the way in 2007 with $4.8 billion, nearly double the worldwide retail sales numbers for PC games. Digital distribution sales approached $2 billion, while advertising revenues from websites, portals, and in-game ads accounted for $800 million. Both are expected to grow substantially as major developers and publishers begin to adopt formal strategies to take advantage of new online opportunities.

Cause one game that sells over 2 million can save the day rite?.

Piracy is still pretty big on PC and thats whats still hurting it, prolly not killing it but it sure hurts publishers/devs.

DD represents almost 2 billion in sales while 3.21 billion is retail sales. Over 4.8 billion in revenue from subscription mmo games. If anything that confirms what many have been saying from the beginning.

lol.

A pathetic 5 billion in retail?

Every single console at the end of '08 will probably obliterate those numbers. Remember, when in doubt, hermits will stoop low to win the argument i.e. posting fake information, include money made from ingame advertisements, include online milking - I mean subscription fees and change the diagram from PC gaming to the PC game industry.

Halo sells millions of copies...it doesn't mean all game sales on 360 are increasing or that 360 sales are increasing.

One game does not represent the entire market. All this proves is what we already know...PC gamers love FPS.

Haha 22 pages of console users trying to downplay the figure.

Whichever way you look at it 3 million copies sold is impressive, the developers pretty much self owned themselves declaring the game didn't sell well enough too soon.

The thing is it sold this many copies over a period of time, as in outside the hype period, games that sell the most in a matter of days are because people are over hyped.

This goes right along with my argument of comparing the ways consoles operate with PC, Far Cry is still available in retail today; games on PC sell slower than consoles but they sell significantly longer if they are good.

Technically, Crysis was released last year. Stalker sold 1.6 million. Bioshock sold 2.2 million between pc and console. the orange box sold at least 1.5 million, this is according to wiki, which could be wrong, mind. it would be safe to say The Orange box has went up though.

No that is not the case. The number is fake. You will never find Crytek or anyone from EA stating that the game sold 3 million. The TC says the info is in PCG UK but there is no such thing in the mag. Its more like 22 pages over false information. Its sad really.

Yes, we get it, you're the most intelligent person on these forums, I mean, you're the only one who understands that the 18.8 billion figure you showed me in the other thread, which was stated to be the overall video game sales figure, is, in fact, only for consoles, despite the fact that as an overall figure, the PC and handhelds have to be taken into account, too.

Well if that really is the case then arguing is justified, I'll pick up a PCGamer UK myself to confirm (latest issue right?).

Thing is console users would be pulling this regardless of whether it is fake or not; they downplay all market information on PC.

I thought the PC never died and that it had a giant user base? 3 million for the one big game the PC has once or twice a year is nothing.FFXIII360

How about WoW, and the Sims? They outsell pretty much everything on consoles. Crysis isn't close to the biggest PC game to release in 2007.

No that is not the case. The number is fake. You will never find Crytek or anyone from EA stating that the game sold 3 million. The TC says the info is in PCG UK but there is no such thing in the mag. Its more like 22 pages over false information. Its sad really.

AnnoyedDragon

Well if that really is the case then arguing is justified, I'll pick up a PCGamer UK myself to confirm (latest issue right?).

Thing is console users would be pulling this regardless of whether it is fake or not; they downplay all market information on PC.

This thread is from June and it has already been confirmed to be false. The TC took it from wiki but that information was removed because it was incorrect.

Someone bumped the thread for some reason.

It took the PC, with an install base of over 200+ million, 6 months to sell 3 million copies of its most anticipated title. farrell2k

prove it's the most anticipated. especially among ~75% of that install base.

It took the 360, with an install base of 20+ million, 3 or 4 days to sell 3 million. Do you really NOT see the problem with that? Does it have to be explained to you guys? farrell2k

Tell me when the 360 has anywhere near as much game competition as the PC, and tell me where it has the annoying problem of user alienation from system requirements, and tell me whether Crysis had anywhere near the marketing and hype that Halo 3 had.

I think it's you who needs the explanation given to you, sir. :|

Srsly...do we have to run through this again?!

Crysis was a technical powerhouse, not many people could run the damn game..For a game with those Specs and Sold that many copies in very surprised..as soon as the gameplay videos where out many people said they couldn't run it.., and also due to EA's bad rep among many other gamers that didn't help there sales at all.

PC's install base is much larger than a console..but when you make a game that almost 70% of the PC population cant run correctly..of course your not going to rack in sales.
