My dad wants to get a blu ray player, and i heard that the ps3 is the cheapest blu ray player on the market at $399. my question is this, is it worth it to get a ps3 just for blu ray. There is only 2 games that I would ever play on the ps3 and maybe one game in 2008 that intreasts me. If I got a ps3 it would mainly be for watching blu ray movies.

I guess if you're getting it just for the Blu Ray.. sure.. why not. There might be more games down the road you want to buy, so it's the best of both worlds

yes because of the firmware upgrades can be downloaded on the ps3 and on stand alone players u can't play new kinds of blu-ray movies v1/3 on players that have firmware 1.2... you don't have the right hardware and firmware to play the blu-ray disc...sure they could put the update on the disc but those stand alone players don't have any internal storage..... new stand alone players are coming with internal storage and network connectivity...which the ps3 already has....as the medium upgrades it neeed new firmware which the ps3 easily gets. it is already on v1.3 right?

Well, it is your dad paying for it. Not you. So you are just tagging along for the ride plus you get a ps3. So what is so hard?

And ps3 br's firmware is upgradeable unlike standalone br players.

What games would you like for it? With the blue ray, free PSN, MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and Haze, the cost benefits are enormous. Plus, the dual platform games are a bit better quality on the PS3.

I got my PS3 for Blu Ray, but have enjoyed R and C, Motorstorm, Uncharted, and HS as well. And since when are multi platform games better on the PS3? Most people agree that they are usually, not always, better on 360.

Thats just Fanboyishdom(lol). PS3 is the graphic powerhouse. If it doesnt have better graphics it is merely the developers not trying.
