In NVIDIA terms, about a 7800/7900.
Of course the comparison is redundant unless you take into account the other hardware in each system.

yup, i also believe the gpu can get some help from the cpu in the ps3. You have to remember to take that into consideration too.

The problem though lies in a distinct lack of RAM across the system. The PS3 has about 512 MB period. Modern PCs usually have their RAM measuring in the GBs, as well as GPU RAM.
[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]sony said its as powerful as 2 6800 ultrasMetroidPrimePwn
Huh?
It has a power level over 9000?!!?!
WHAT 9000!?It is, very litterally, a 7800GTX clocked a little higher. Performance is almost dead even between a 7800GTX and 7900GTXCali3350
No it's not, would you like me to explain why?
ROPS: RSX 8, 7800GTX 16
Bandwidth: RSX 128bit, 7800GTX 256bit
Those two alone right there are huge reasons why...
I would agree on the 7800GT, that's prob. what it's closest to overall. You may get shader/pixel limited situations where it will match a 7800GTX or better, but more times then not you won't get that.
[QUOTE="jkmetalf"][QUOTE="Dynafrom"]7800GT varient. Nowhere near a 7900.Dynafrom
7800GT is close to 7900 to begin with.
A 7900GT > 7800GTX. It's not as close as you would think.
im pretty sure he's talking about the 7900gs in which yes the 7800gt is pretty close touhmm just found this at some sources
Staff Sony were quoted in PlayStation Magazine saying that the "RSX shares a lot of inner workings with NVIDIA 7800 which is based on G70 architecture. Since the G70 is capable of carrying out 136 shader operations per clock cycle, the RSX was expected to feature the same number of parallel pixel and vertex shader pipelines as the G70, which contains 24 pixel and 8 vertex pipelines. [2]
NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang stated during Sony's pre-show press conference at E32005 that the RSX would be more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra video cards combined.A 7900GT > 7800GTX. It's not as close as you would think.

Actually, the 7900GT and 7800GTX were nearly identical performance-wise last I checked. The primary difference between the two is that the 7900GT draws less power and (as a result) outputs less heat.

at stock they were basically same performance, but the g71 aka 7900 gt has a die shrunk g70 7800 gtx, so it could overclock more run cooler/use less power.
