[QUOTE="Blue-Sky"]Its terminology I like to use when a particular console leaves an impression on majority of the users whether its due to recents news or events. Most users are easily influenced by the opinions of the other and often apply the same general opinion from the board to real life.
In SW, the PS3 is making a killing sales, big games are about release, while none will be on the others, 360 is failing, and Wii fad is about to end. In reality, not so much, this "PS3 hype" barely exists.
Always-Honest
in reality thed ps3 is slowly catching up.
Correct. The reality of the Cow, however, would have you believe that "times they are a changing" due to one month of favorable sales. In a way, they are right, the static numbers will change in favor of the PS3 in the next 2 or 3 years, over the 360. However, these "times" have been "changing" since the first month the PS3 outsold the 360 in Others, which was several months ago.
No company can takes first place, when its gained and/or lost momentum in 2 of the 3 major world markets. The 360 is out of contention for 1st place then gen, however, it(MS) can still "beat" the PS3, relegating it to 3rd, by dropping 360 support in 2010, where it will still be ahead statically worldwide. Considering Nintendo would likely launch a year later, it would force Sony to drop it's 10 year support policy for the PS3 in favor of renewing its brand in the market highly motivated by newest or most original technology.
Sony will beat the 360 this gen, in reality. However, Microsoft has several possibly plays, it could make, if it were so inclinded, that could ruin the Sony brand for next generation, even moreso than it already is, especially in America.
Sony will never take top spot in Japan, that will go the Wii, it's almost already too late for them their, if you look at static number comparisons.
Sony will never take top spot in America, that will go to the Wii, also, but second will almost certainly go to the 360, considering its sizable lead at this point.
Europe is where the PS3 has a chance to claim dominance first, If it can pull a weekly top spot here by the end of 08, then it might still have a chance to catch the Wii by 2011, when the Wii 2 will likely be announced.
However, Nintendo's current marketing execs, Reggie included, are so amazing, that it's nearly impossible at this point to turn in around, and that's a fact.
The PS3 isn't "catching up" to the Wii, in momentum, or even static numbers. Ebay still has Wii's for 400 dollars, they are still impossible to find, and Nintendo can sell as many as it ships. Here is an example.
Last week, VGchartz tracked the Wii at about 220,000 units in America. That is nearly as many units as the PS3 sold in January. VGChartz was dead on accurate hardware wise with the NPD for January, with everything but the DS. If last weeks shipments are true, the Wii could outsell the PS3 4:1 in February NPD just from increasing its shipments. That is the true power of global momentum, with a bottomless demand in all regions. There is no "how will it sell" there is only a "how will it supply".
So, don't think the PS3 has "won" anything, except a spot over the 360 within the next 4 years in static worldwide numbers. PS3 won't see 100m sold, it won't see the success of the PS2, and if it does remain the only Sony home console for the next 10 years, we won't see a PS4.
