PS3 Hits New Low In Japanese Hardware Sales

The PlayStation 3 also saw sales fall from 16,889 units to 14,520. This represents the worst ever week for the console since launch, with a year-to-date total of just 368,343 units and a lifetime total in Japan of 825,901 consoles.

The Wii was up slightly in second place, from 51,365 units sold to 52,583 this week.

Sales do not seem to good for the PS3. In UK went from 165k to 17k by third week and now worst week yet for PS3. Wasn't there something about Sony saying they would sell over 6 million by last month. Well at this rate they will never get there.Eltroz

In January the PS3 outsold the 360 in Japan and U.S.  The increase in sales for the month of Feb. for the 360 was due to Halo Beta.  

As for the U.K. its actually doing very steller, a drop of 82% means its selling 30K.  Thats JUST in the U.K.  That means 120K a month from just the U.K. which people forget is JUST ONE of the countries in Europe.  The truth is the 360 sells great in the U.S. poor in Japan and O.K. at best in Europe.  The PS3 sells good in NA, Japan and Europe with its handful of games.

360 has sold only around 3 million in its year and some change available in Europe, its sells poor in Japan every week, the PS3 doesnt have to outsell the 360 in NA in the beginning of its life cycle, especially as long as it sells well in NA, JPN, and Europe, it all adds up.  In NA the PS3 has been selling better then the 360 did when it was in its 6 month life cycle.

I dont see how the PS3 is in "permanent 3rd place" when it is outselling the 360 in Japan and Europe.  In NA the 360 may be outselling the PS3 currently but the PS3 has alot of great games coming out and the 360 is far from dominating the PS3 in NA.

I will optomistically assume that you are not aware that Nextgenwars.com is run by an 18 year old and is FAAAAAAR from a  reputable source.  As for my last sentence and you not understanding, I will reword it and make it easier for you "The 360 is not outselling the PS3 in NA by much for a console that has a years worth of games and is competing with a console that has around 7 games to its name currently.  WHen camparing both consoles at the same point in their life cycle the PS3 is outselling the 360."  I wouldnt recommend condemning a console and basing your opinion of the Console Wars off of nexgenwars.com.

a) In JP no, it never has. Never said otherwise. In EU, it's impossible to get any meaningful data... it's been less than a month, and we only have launch data. 

b) What sales have been predicted accurately? EU has very little public information regarding console sales, other than launch numbers. The 82% drop was a leak, and the research groups raised hell over it. We simply don't know how the X360 has done on Europe other than shady websites like VGcharts. If you have a decent link of actual, measured and validated sales info, then more power to you.

c) Yeah, that's true. So did most consoles. The point was that February was not an anomaly for MS (as the other poster had claimed), and was not a particularly good month: My point, I guess, was that I chose february because it's the latest month we have full data on (with the added bonus that it's not a launch or near launch month), not because I wanted MS to look good.

It doesn't say anything about Europe other than the painfully obvious. The 604k and 584k numbers were cumulative US and Japan for JAN-FEB, which show the PS3 leading by 20k. Considering the 360 absolutely obliterated in NOV and DEC, I think in the aggregate US and Japan it might still be leading. Europe is pretty much the coin in the air deciding who is selling the most, and  again we don't have any real information on it.

So that quote doesn't help matters much.

Actually it hasn't even been annouced.  In fact the next game wont be III, it'll be some spinoff series.  And, Nomura hinted that it might not neccicarely be a game, so don't be suprised to see a CGI film coming.
