Ok so the Wii is winning and no one can really dispute that. The 360 seems to be currently coming 2nd. It pulled out some amazing things like Gears of War early on, then Halo 3 and now Gears 2 is ready to send the 360 into 2009. Halo was there but all these big guns were supported by a lots of lesser but still good titles like Fable 2. But what about the PS3? In 2007 we saw some really bad ports as devs couldn't figure out (or just couldn't be bothered to try) how the damned thing worked. Most of them still can't, and just a while back (I think it was Volition) were complaining about how they had to hire a Sony tech guy to help them with Cell. Most of the PS3 games flopped, or just didn't seem that good to start with. I mean when the console is over a year old and it's best game is still a launch title, you know something is wrong... But then this year we saw is whip out it's big guns, MGS4, LBP and R2 (Not out, but nearly everyone agrees it looks good). MGS4 just raised the bar when it came to a real singleplayer experience and LBP did what Spore failed to do (IMO). No idea how R2 will play out, but either way it will be pivotal for the PS3 (maybe the entire console war). So personally I think 2008 was the year of the PS3 but do you guys rekon that will be enough? In 2009 will we see the PS3 surpass the 360? Or will it just get close and never reach it's goal...fluxorator
MGS 4 is the best PS3 game of this gen but its not a bar raiser as you say. As far as LBP doing what Spore could not do maybe you need a lesson in PC gaming because PC gamers have been able to make maps and levels since the 90's when developers started to release map and level makers as part of their PC games. Resistance 2 is not going to do much for the PS3 since its basically a normal shooter game with nothing new beside maybe the new co op idea. 2009 will be another good year for the 360. I am not sure if the same can be said for Sony .

I know map making has always been possible, but it has never become a 'casual' sort of experience. IMO Spore tried to make that sort of thing available to all... At least that's what some of the hype surrounding it was. LBP is nothing new, but in terms of the whole package in something that good and user-friendly... It's pretty good. The 360 will still come out on top sales wise for 2008 and 2009. Unless Sony decides to drop the PS3 to a starting point of $199.
As for games i would still rather Fable 2, Gears 2, L4D, and Banjo Kazooie than MGS 4, LBP, and R2. So for me 2008 is still the year for the 360.
It's too early to tell what 2009 will bring as alot of games still need to be announced for that year.

I really am baffled by this comment.
The 360 will have a better year then the ps3 will in 09
It already stole two of its biggest games FF13 and Tekken 6
Killzone 2 will most likely flop
So God of War 3 is really the only thing the ps3 has to look foward to in 09

GT 5, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, Infamous... and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

In 2009 ps3 will have even more exclusives than this year, including war devil, gran turismo 5, killzone 2, WKC, final fantasy versus 13, god of war 3, infamous, heavy rain, MAG, a bunch of psn titles, team ico game, twisted metal ps3, quantom theory, demon souls, and so much more.
As for sales trust me sony will drop the price or they be really really dumb
2009 sees Killzone 2, inFamous, Heavy Rain, GOW III(Christmas 09), maybe MAG, FF vs XIII. Multiplats Resi 5, FFXIII, Operation Flashpoint (hopefully). Id say they are strong enough titles too see it through the year for sales, add to that the myriad of other new titles and sleeper hits (like this years Dead Space), plus continuous sales of the likes of MGS4, R2, LBP (The 3 heavy hitters of the PS3). Id say 09 is shaping up pretty good for PS3 owners. I'll have a 360 by then anyway, so I can finally become a manticore.
When GOW III comes out, and with the price drop, (Of course they will lower it when this is released, and do an epic bundle) You will see the most consoles sold on a single day. GOW and GOW II were THE PS2 games last gen, GOWIII has more selling power I think than KZ2, GT:5, or any other PS title.
