I know demo pods are not a good judgement tool of a game or the console it's displaying. But I did notice a couple of things while going by (and playing) PS3 demo pods today.

1 All of the people who walked by or played then thought the games had amaziong graphics. Even when I was playng Gengji day of the Blade.  Yeah, I know, Gengji, supossedly one of the weakest looking PS3 launch games made some people go "Wow"

Of course that could have been a "Wow this looks crappy" the "wow "during Gengji was not really explained further. But I'm gonna asume it's a "wow" as in "Wow this looks amazing".

2 One thing was missing in every store in any store, on every PS3 display, in the whole center of Amsterdam.

The Price. It was noware to be found.

People seem to be stoked about the PS3 and the Playstation name allone is enough to get everyone from men women and children to go play it. But What happens when they see the price?

I don't think Sony would have any trouble selling in Europe. People see the Playstation name and graphics that are much better than on PS2 and are amazed. Except the price is insane, and they don't know it yet. Europeans don't even get the choice of the cheaper 20 GB model at the moment.

The Playstation name is still carrying a lot of momentum, but I think the price may put an end to that.

Not to mention, where is the add blitz? The system is coming out in about 6 hours and I have seen one PS3 comercial on tv, half, and if I hadnt known the this is living slogan was for PS3 I wouldnt have known it was for the pS3.

Sony seems to be dropping the ball big time. They seem to think the Playstation name alone is enough to sell units, and while it may be enough to amaze casual passers by who dont know the price once the price is known, people may actually start looking at that other box that can play games that look pretty, the xbox 360.

And no, they won't look at the wii the Wii, even if they wanted to they cant it's sold out everywere. :P

What you refer to as "stoked" is actually just that pent-up demand that is always seen when a new console is launched. Once intitial sales are complete, sales will abate considerably.

1. Genji although a crappy game...has amazing graphics. 2. Unless everyone in Europe has been living in a cave for the past year, they probably know that the thing costs more than it's competition.

The people were only saying wow to reassure themselves that the console is a good purchase, im sure they have their doubts.

Demand is always high at launches...

Why anyone buys a system at launch is beyond me.

genji was a very good looking game the reviews should that. but the reason for the low score was camara issues and gameplay got boring after awhile. did you ever play the real game. the pirate ship level was so awesome looking. all the sites rate the graphics high. even game spot said the game was beautiful.

On the contrary, the mood in the UK at least is rather dampened and dreary like the weather. Of course you will have crowds in London but venture elsewhere and indifference prevails. Every newspaper article I read (of which there are few) has the colossal price looming in the background like an omniscient spectre.

Like how the Daily Mail today had the PS3 in an article with the headline "Sony Paystation" (or something like that). They had a list showing that the UK pays the most for the console

Nah, seems like Sony has put out plenty of systems for launch and shouldnt be the "scalpers paradise" like it was here in the states. I bet PS3 will do well today.

I don't know about the Daily Mail, I am more accustomed to using it as loo-roll. However The Independent was keen to repeat the price and the lacklustre response in the US and Japan.

Just a vague joke that most launch units will just end up on ebay like hot potatoes rather than going home and being played :P  I'm betting in a week or two it will be "I hope they have the permanent shelf space for the PS3".

Its my mum that buys the Daily Mail (apparently its only because the ink doesn't come off on your hands  ).The Daily Mail really hate computer games. They said King Kong was a top Xbox 360 game, and Sonic was a top PS3 as well; which just shows they know nothing about games.

It's out in Australia right now. Will people buy it? Yeah some but not as much as the PS2.

I found it funny there was a news bit in the paper today(or was it yesterday? I forget) and it was asking people will they buy it. All the little spoilt 12 year olds said yes and the older teenagers(17, 18 ) said no because it costs too much. I guess when it's you earning the money it doesn't seem worth it.

One thing is for sure - the PS3 will not be sold out at launch in Europe. This is very surprising to me. I fully expected it to be sold out, but I can still go to a number of websites and purchase it online throughout Europe, including www.amazon.co.uk, www.amazon.fr, and www.amazon.de. Those pre-order buttons have not gone away once since they've been up.

People seem more exited around the PS3 demo pods then the were around the 360 demo pods at launch.

Around 360 pods at launch it was usually "yeah it looks great, but I'm waiting for PS3"

We'll see how it works out. :)

Most newspapers are riddled with misinformation when it comes to video-games, it is a shame they recieve a token amount of space whilst other media take up huge swathes of column inches.

Unfortunatly when it comes to games most people live in a cave. in Europe it's usually a cave with a slimline PS2 and Fifa 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 50cent bullet Proof :?

That was because nobody knew the price tag that the PS3 was going to have when the 360 launched in November 2005, and everybody expected the PS3 to be the unquestionable graphical powerhouse that would destroy the competition and be the runaway leader this generation. Well a lot has changed since then....

I went 'Wow!' too when I saw the graphics for the basketball. It looked great on a hi-def monitor. I wonder how many UK resididents have a Hi-def tv?
