I think if Sony really tried, the PS3 would be doing better than the 360 right now.DuDisNowwhat do you mean "if they really tired?". They are trying.
Maybe if gow2 came out for the ps3 things would be a little bit better..but I doubt much will be changed though cos casuals will be looking at the price tag first and blue ray is not really what they need right now with the established dvd and all that unless they have hdtv. If ps3 is launched with a lighter pricetag like $450 or so, it could be doing well.
I think they put in pretty much alot of effort on the ps3 now..more than the ps2. The ps2 game lineup looks pretty stale right now.
just like the ps3 sony said the ps2 is a 10year system and they intend to keep it that way.river_rat3117

I'd have to agree. Thats the main thing keeping me from getting one right now. That and the add ons.How is working with the best selling console ever stupid? That's called not abandoning people that bought your product. Something MS did to Xbox owners. CyanX73

Usually you let other people laugh at your jokes . I guess the smart move is to cut off anything for your other consoles when your new one comes out? That would be when I began to resent a company. Not saying you support a product forever, but to just cut it off as soon as your new product is out would be very foul and sends a bad message to your customers.

Ill keep this short and sweet. M$ intention with the Xbox was to secure a foothold in the market. M$ did not gain a single penny with the Xbox. It did however cause previous Xbox owners and others to purchase the 360 which appears to be selling well. Not as good as the Wii, but definately better than the PS3. It didnt send a bad message to me. M$ included a 10 gig hard drive and a powerful gpu in its orginal console. I looked forward to the next console and I wasnt dissappointed.

You shouldn't take a general statement and attempt to refute it with a particular instance. I could have guessed it didn't apply to you given your obvious support for 360. Selling much better than PS3? You are aware that PS3 is actually selling better, at this point in it's existence, better than 360? As far as gaining a single penny, Xbox just lost MS a large amount of money. Would you then be okay with MS bailing on 360 the way they did with the original Xbox if/when they launch their new console?

What was it, 6000 consoles up in a single week? Sony will never gain any ground at such a rate, not to mention it was a knee jerk reaction from consumers to the price drop.
As for 360's breaking, i'd rather be playing a console and risk it breaking than not be playing my console at all, period.

Yeah, but it wasn't me who played industry analyst by saying that PS3 failed only a few months after launch.
Sony is trying to grow the brand even more which is a smart move and they are making current ps2 owners very happy until they can get a ps3 to keep them from straying. Another very smart move imo. Sure they could have put Socom , Rougue Galaxy , and God of War II on the ps3 already to get some more sales but I am glad they have a different approach than the other companies. That puts Sony above the competition in my eyes.
I mean, Sony isn't giving their full effort to the PS3. They're still working with the PS2, which is stupid. Yes, it still sells consoles, but it's last gen and Sony is making their new console really bad to casuals. If they would have dropped the price by another $50 dollars and would have put God of War II on the PS3 instead, it would be doing better. That's why the Wii is doing better, the games are coming to the Wii, and 360 is doing a little better because it has good games coming out this year. I'm sick of Sony not trying very hard. The PS3 is really good, but come on Sony, try harder.DuDisNow
All the people that still only have PS2's will get a PS3 when they're ready. They will appreciate that Sony didn't pull the plug on them early like Microsoft did with Xbox support.

What was it, a 60% sales plunge? Retailers selling out at a mere 100 dollar price cut? Retailers reporting failure rates at some 30%?
I think it's just the opposite. Sony still makes lots of high-quality consumer products, like televisions. The PS3 is just one of their relatively few flubs. Every company has one of those every so often (Virtual Boy anyone?).Number_1_GamerI wouldn't call the PS3 a flub, they're just doing a bad job on the pricing and marketing. Comparing the PS3 to the VB is just plain mean. I don't think there's ever been another system that poorly designed.

It wasn't a sales plunge, it was a reduction in units shipped to stores due to the large number of 360s shipped the previous year to offset shortages.[QUOTE="CyanX73"][QUOTE="KirbyFan10101"]What was it, 6000 consoles up in a single week? Okay, I'll try to explain this again. Most stores were having shortages last year so they overstocked on units, thus it appeared MS sold a crapload of units. Now that production is smooth we have a more realistic picture of what to expect on an annual basis. In any case, regardless of where you want to count the sales number, the 360 is still widening it's gap between it and the PS3, which means it's doing just fine. Though none of this matters because to look strictly at sales numbers the Wii is crushing everything and the 360 looks to be it's next victim.[QUOTE="Magical_Zebra"]This coming from the person who basically said he is a Sony fanboy? I never said they didnt take a billion dollar hit. Thats obvious. Fact of the matter remains, its reported for the 2007 fiscal year and not 08. It will still take more than 240 million dollars worth of game sales to even make back that billion dollar hit. So again, the ownage is where?
And again, are we forgetting Sony's recent billion dollar loss w/o the issuance of a warranty?
