PS3 is losing its steam in the race...

Looks like the PS3 is losing it's steam. 360 is just starting to pick up mainstream... Have a look at sales figures:

August

DS: 518,000 (Total: 22 million)
Wii: 453,000 (Total: 11.9 million)
PSP: 253,000 (Total: 12.5 million)
Xbox 360: 195,000 (Total: 10.9 million)
PS3: 185,000 (Total: 5.3 million)

Remember that PS3 is over 5 million behind, and in order to catch up will have to sell MORE than 360 each month. After a few good months this year, the 360 has finally overtaken the PS3 yet again. With the latest price cuts and rumours of increased sales of up to 100% on 360 consoles over the past 2 weeks, I sispect that gap is just going to increase. And if the 360 sells like hot cakes this holiday season, PS3 is going to be in for a rude awakening on how name brand alone can not keep a product a float.

Many people including myself have accepted the PS3 being in last place this gen. I don't really care if the PS3 is in last place, just aslong they have first place awesome exclusive games and I'm happy with it. Keep online free and make blu rays cheaper and I'll feel like a winner for getting this gaming console. Oh well.

This is August data man, the cut was in Sep. You'll see a much bigger gap next month. But seriously who cares. So the PS3 is last. Doesn't mean it isn't better than the Wii and it is first.

I predict if PS3 doesn't get a price cut in the US, 4th qtr they will be outsold by 500k units.

Sony seems to be more focused on getting profitable when selling their hardware rather than taking a loss. Next year when they can reduce the manufacturing cost to make the PS3 I will expect a sizeable pricecut (some where around $249 - $299 pricepoint). It really hurts that after two years it's still the most expensive console we have ever seen......I mean it launched 2 years ago at $499 and $599.....it's only had $100 drop in two years!!!! That's pretty bad.

The 360 will be back to it's usual disgusting levels in Japan next week. I think Sony have some bundles planned for the holiday so I estimate the PS3 will edge out the 360 WW, with the 360 winning in NA.Floppy_Jim

PS3 will edge out the X360 this 4th qtr World Wide.....but as you said in North America the 360 with their new pricepoint will kill PS3. Overall PS3 looks good if you look at it WW......it's just the most important market they are falling so far behind it doesn't look like they will ever catch X360.

to me that's very unimpressive for Microsoft. To have such a huge price cut for a console, and only beat the PS3 by 10,000 units. Especially considering the fact that Sony has said there won't be any price cuts for awhile. Eventually the steam of the sales cut will diminish, then what?johnnyv2003

i didn't say microsoft isn't doing well. Just saying that selling that many more consoles isn't necessarily a great stat. I personally believe it's too early to start handing out trophies and awards for "best sellers". A couple more years and I think the sales war will start to truly take shape. Especially on the worldwide scale
