As you can see at the bottom of this article(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16833561/)   ps2 has sold over 110Million units.

From them only 32M were sold in the US.

Thats alot less than the 1/3 of total sales!

So the US didnt make PS2 a winner and they probably wont make the PS3 either.

But the PlayStation brand name dominates all other regions. From the millions of PS2 users in Europe and Japan only a few seem to have bought the Xbox 360 since it has sold a little more than 3M outside the US!

Its obvious that the HUGE number of PS2 users hasnt bought a new console yet. When the time comes they'll buy the successor to what offered them 10.000+ titles, most likely.

Its true that for the late80's and 90's generation of gamers the word PlayStation is a synonym of gaming. Now that the console has reached all other regions this alone will be a reason to buy it,like it or not. Most of the people who'll buy the PS3 dont know its library or that the 360 has(for now) a better one. Most of them wont care for the price.I still remeber how most of us here in Greece would buy a PS2 for $1000+ and how we would say that Xbox is piece of crap without even playing with it!(10 years old!)

The US loves the 360 but thats just not enough...The PS3 will ruin it everywhere else.

So all this negativity which comes mostly from the US isnt so important at all.In fact Sony seems to has launched the PS3 earlier in the US(than Europe)just to prevend a clear 360 win in US.They are too confident for all other regions and they are right.

One example is that many kids i know say they bought the PS3 on Friday or theyll buy it in the future, for games like DMC4!

They dont know its no longer exclusive!!!And they ll never learn it:P

PS3 is the winner guys its hardcore but it also has the casuals with it!

Let's see, US is dominated by 360 and Wii, PS3 flopped in Europe, and it's going nowhere in Japan compared to Wii.  You better hope to sell out for years in Austrailia. Repeat business?

If what you suggested was true, PS3 would have sold 10 million by now, not happening really, has by FAR worst graphics, check the WASHED OUT Oblivion, with the toned down colors/shadows/lighting/HDR/textures, pure garbage comparing to 360 version

well, PS3 does not stand a chance if you ask me, after the European fiasco

You know that logic doesnt hold water.

Previous userbase = current userbase. Nintendo is proof of this

Secondly, casuals are NOT loyal, most casuals who had the ps2 now have the 360. The 360 ATM has MUCH better games and a lower price. Some casuals read magazines which would let them be aware of games going multiplat. Loads of people already know GTA has gone multiplat.

At the moment, the ps3 is going through the same phase as the GC. It was released nearly last and doesnt offer much more than what the competition already offers. The only people buying it at the moment are hardcore sony fans and people who buy any console that is new. Just like with the GC.

Things might change but ATM logic says otherwise

Sony is not doing "okay" in Japan.  Nintendo is owning everything over there.  45 of the top 50 selling software titles are on Nintendo platforms, and Nintendo has an approximately 85% current market share.

It would not be too inaccurate to say that Nintendo has taken a monopoly position in the Japanese gaming market.

You can't use last gen sales as an accurate prediction. Gamecube sold horribly last gen but Wii is selling like hot cakes.

Nope. But 'm just trying to prove a point. Until it actually has a price drop or some good games (imo mind you) then it probably won't sell.

Everything you said is just based on history. Look, the XBOX was a flop as Microsoft was just entering the market. Microsoft knew they flopped, so they fixed it with the XBOX 360 and look at it, it's flourishing everywhere, except Japan. It's selling in regions like Taiwan and Hong Kong (which are literally "Playstation Camps") along with the Wii. gnutux

Thats hardly any opinion. Were speaking about long term.....not yesterday and tomorrow....

SOrry to inform you, but the washed out Oblivion is today, we can't ignore how bad it looks comparing to 360, plus Mass Effect UNLIKE FF13 is 2007,  and May too, same goes for all 360 RPG's, and main franshises, they come in 2007, or first thing in 2008, best PS3 games in late 2008 or 2009

So, today AND tomorrow AND long term until late 2008 belongs to 360, PS3 only has VERY LONG term that could be good

[QUOTE="SumerianDaemon"][QUOTE="ZinkOxide"]Let's see, US is dominated by 360 and Wii, PS3 flopped in Europe, and it's going nowhere in Japan compared to Wii. You better hope to sell out for years in Austrailia. Repeat business? terrellpakeman

PS3 flopped in Europe after 2 days?Go home kid!

Home isn't out yet, but that'll flop too.

2 days and people declare flop? Home not even released and people declare flop? I guess jealousy really does cause delusions.

ps3 is doing ok, if u have a brain u can see this. Think about this. wii= $250 x 10 wiis = $2,500 Ps3= 600 X 10 ps3 = $6000 So when you think about how expensive the ps3 is, its doing ok.

americas and japan are the biggest arkets, and, atm, wii owns them. japan may have like ps2, but the ps3 does not appeal to them. wii is mercilessly spanking 360 and ps3 in americas, and japan. i dont know about europe.

Late 80's and early 90's? What are you, simple? PSX came out in 1995 I believe thats mid 90's. Anybody that knows anything knows that late 80's early 90's belonged to Sega and Nintendo, you misinformed, obvious young person that wasn't old enough to know that gaming fact. You fail buddy.

Casuals are NOT going to pay $600 for a system, and that's the end of it.liljon546
I even consider myself more than a casual, and I'm still not going to pay 600$ for it. Game Over Sony.

People act as if PS2 sold 110 million the first two years or something. The ONLY reason PS2 sold as much as it did is because of price drops which allowed casual gamers to get into the market. $600 for a console, blu-ray or no blu-ray, is just way too much for a casual gamer to consider purchasing. I would argue that even the 360 has not broken into the casual market yet. When there is a significant price drop, causual gamers, which everyone knows is the majority of gamers, will enter into the foray.

The reason that the Wii is selling like hotcakes is because its opening price is low enough to attract some casual gamers. Sony shot themselves in the foot right off the bat, and unless they get a seriously killer app, the only thing that will bump up sales is a price drop. So, no, the PS3 is not simply going to win. Most people, aside from a few fanboys, have zero brand loyalty. They are just looking for a reasonably priced system with fun games to play. They are not looking for a super computer that plays games. They are looking for a gaming machine that helps them forget what a crappy job they have. Rambling over.

Hhmmm.....so if what you're writing is true, then the successor the the SNES, the N64, should have won against Playstation because its two predicessors won. And that didn't happen.
