As you can see at the bottom of this article(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16833561/) ps2 has sold over 110Million units.
From them only 32M were sold in the US.
Thats alot less than the 1/3 of total sales!
So the US didnt make PS2 a winner and they probably wont make the PS3 either.
But the PlayStation brand name dominates all other regions. From the millions of PS2 users in Europe and Japan only a few seem to have bought the Xbox 360 since it has sold a little more than 3M outside the US!
Its obvious that the HUGE number of PS2 users hasnt bought a new console yet. When the time comes they'll buy the successor to what offered them 10.000+ titles, most likely.
Its true that for the late80's and 90's generation of gamers the word PlayStation is a synonym of gaming. Now that the console has reached all other regions this alone will be a reason to buy it,like it or not. Most of the people who'll buy the PS3 dont know its library or that the 360 has(for now) a better one. Most of them wont care for the price.I still remeber how most of us here in Greece would buy a PS2 for $1000+ and how we would say that Xbox is piece of crap without even playing with it!(10 years old!)
The US loves the 360 but thats just not enough...The PS3 will ruin it everywhere else.
So all this negativity which comes mostly from the US isnt so important at all.In fact Sony seems to has launched the PS3 earlier in the US(than Europe)just to prevend a clear 360 win in US.They are too confident for all other regions and they are right.
One example is that many kids i know say they bought the PS3 on Friday or theyll buy it in the future, for games like DMC4!
They dont know its no longer exclusive!!!And they ll never learn it:P
PS3 is the winner guys its hardcore but it also has the casuals with it!
