Many state that Playstation 3 will dominate in 2008 because of the great line-up of exclusive games. Being a Playstation fan since the beginning of the Playstation 2 I continue to hope that 2008 will be the turn around for the Playstation 3.

Since the Xbox came out several years back, Playstation has slowly lost many fans to the Xbox and now the Xbox 360. Many ask why? The answer starts at the beginning of Xbox, where it was just another system. That was until the Xbox released Halo, exclusive for the Xbox. This game, which is owned by Microsoft, is possibly their leading game that has increased their revenues by a substantial amount. I can only predict that many will deny this, and vise-versa. Thankfully I have some proof. If you have seen many of the new Playstation 3 commercials, they all base their commercials on one aspect, exclusiveness. Why? For the same reason that Halo will never be released for the Playstation 3 which ultimately leads to the unique features of a gaming system. Imagine if every system had the same games as any other system. It would be like living in a world where everyone looked, acted and spoke the same. This concept will be the most dominating aspect for 2008. Now the question comes. Will Playstation win this war pertaining to exclusive games? Evidently Playstation has the right approach as they continue to strive for an exclusive game that will finally take over Halo, once and for all. Will they find that game? Time can only tell. However, with games like Resistance 2 (Rumored to be named Resistance: Rise of Man), Kill Zone 2 (Hopefully as good as expected), Final Fantasy XIII (Final Fantasy fans have been craving for this game since mid 2007), Final Fantasy Versus XIII (Another Final Fantasy in the making), Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War 3, WarDevil: Enigma, Devil May Cry 4 and many more. As you can see there are many games that have the potential to become the exclusive game that will give Playstation 3 the leading edge. However, it only takes one game to give Playstation that edge, so to be worried is out of the question. Concluding that Playstation has not lost the war yet.

I assume many will doubt that people buy a platform for its games. But look at it this way; with out games a system has no use. Nonetheless, the Playstation 3 and Xbox are not only bought for its collection of games. Bringing me to the second aspect of 2008's Xbox and Playstation dispute, the aspect being the number of users and its effect. Firstly Xbox is dominating in this area since it has an approximate 2 year advantage. This advantage will continue to impact Playstation 3 for many years to come, unfortunately. Though there's little hope for Playstation 3 to exceed Xbox sales, it is possible, but unlikely. However, as the years go on this wound will heal and become only a scare. In other words this aspect will eventually dissolve as more people buy Playstation 3 although it will never fully disappear. Before moving on, the question: What effect does this aspect have on Playstation must be answered. The effect is shown in this example. Grand Theft Auto will not be exclusive for the Playstation 3 since there are not enough Playstation users to meet their revenue demands. However, developers stated that they will later make the game exclusive, once Playstation 3 increases sales. This example is one of the many effects of the small number of users for the Playstation 3.

We come to the last aspect of 2008's Xbox and Playstation dispute. The aspect is the war between Blue-ray and HD. You may or may not know that Xbox supports HD and Playstation supports Blue-ray. So far many believe that Blue-ray has won this war but as Beta was taken over by the VCR, shows the possibility of HD taking over Blue-ray. Hopefully HD will not decrease its cost or Blue-ray will suffer sale decreases and may affect Playstation 3. In the end, this aspect is not a major concern for the Playstation 3 and should not be taken too seriously.

In conclusion, Playstation is a long shot from over taking Xbox in the year of 2008, but there is a lot of hope and potential for the Playstation 3 system. Which leave many Playstation fans eager for the end of 2008.
