Now, shouldn't the "hottest new piece of tech" be in heavy demand? Hmm...could it be, The price? The downgraded hardware? The lack of good games? The fact we've had to wait this long? Sony's blatent ignorance toward the customer (they've actually told people they should be working overtime to afford a PS3 and claim its too cheap). Maybe its because people now realise that PS3 does not equate to the power of 10 Xbox 360's.

All of the above, but the only thing that matters is the games, which will come...

same here in the Netherlands/ Holland. you can walk in to a store and pre order one and get one at launch GARANTEED. i guess it's the price and the lack of games and the cheaper 360 with sh*tload of games.. i pre-ordered one though.

I'm all for people buying one if they wish, this isn't meant to be "Sony bashing thread 1372892" (although it may come across that way). I'm just surprised at lack of demand.

I've yet to see someone in UK, who is actually going to get this console. Most of my friends say its just crap and some of my friends say its too expensive (and yes people, money is hard to come by in the UK).

Or, it could be the fact that they decided not to launch worldwide so they wouldn't have to worry about shipping 5 systems per store once a month like the Wii. :|

Get your facts right... they didn't -decide- not to launch worldwide. They had to call it off because of blu-ray diodes.

Why get a PS3 now? the Xbox360 has similar capabilities, more games and costs less.

i agree, but there are some games i'd like to play allready, i can afford it, and i would like to watch some blu ray movies (and i'm confidend there are some great games coming for PS3). But for most peiople i think it's wise to wait or/ and buy a 360. A lot of quality games and great online.. almost hard to keep up with the flow of games.

History is always a certainty because its already happened, predicting future outcomes on past ones is not though

Sony recovered after a poor PS2 launch so anything is possible I guess. Time will tell.

It hasn't sold out preorders in Ireland either according to some employers of Xtravision on boards.ie (and they are usually pretty reliable). They said they expect to before launch though.

I'm no cow but Sony is providing over 1M units for launch and setting all kinds of records for numbers of pre-orders so it is still going to sell fairly well there I would think. Of course, the main reason they were able to stockpile so many for the PAL launch is that they weren't selling as many as they thought in the other regions....

I don't think that's entirely fair. Most shops will take start taking preorders before they know how many consoles they'll be recieving, so the availibility of preorders isn't exactly a fair measurement. That said, I only know one person planning to buy a PS3, ever.

Just called up a couple of retailers, Game, Gamestation and even Wolworths...they all say that they will definately have them on launch day and the their pre-order lists aren't complete.

My mate is a manager of HMV and he said that even with a low deposit £50, they are not shifting the PS3 at all!

Price is probably the main factor. Casuals loved the PS2. The average casual doesn't know what blu ray is (or care, for that matter) and casuals don't spend £425 on a gaming system. Serious (or simply "loyal to a fault") gamers spend £425 on a console but appealing to hardcore gamers exclusively will not win the console war for you.

I'll set down £330 for the 8800GTX graphics card (haven't checked recently, is that still the asking price?) but I won't pay £425 for a PS3. Its not about how much but rather "is it worth it?"

Pff! For less than a PS3 I got a Wii, Zelda, 2000 points and the new Sonic game to celebrate my birthday.

Also, for less than a PS3 I got a 360 premium, extra wireless controller, GRAW and PGR.

You can get good console bundles for cheaper, much cheaper.

I used to love the Sony consoles and still do, just not an over priced console that **** on its EU fans.

And GAME are still 100% guaranteeing a PS3 at launch if you order today. At least I know I'm guaranteed one now though so I'm not complaining

Dude thats high. I remember before launch it was only £15 for a Wii. HMV are rip offs, by piccadilly circus and my local HMV I seen pre orders at £100.

Thats HMVs problem though, not Sonys.

I pre-ordered mine ages ago (thinking I would be one of the few lucky enough to get one, but now anyone can get one on launch). It is expensive, there is no denying that. Whenever I tell someone I've pre-ordered a PS3 they think I'm a rich bastard

Yeah but over half my pay goes to bills and remaining must be kept to live on till the next payday and only then do you have spending money. If you are in work and have no bills to pay (ie still living with Mum and Dad) then you are the perfect Sony customer.
