PS3 - Maybe it will surpass 360 sales after all

I didn't think it was possible for awhile. But the more I think about it, this seems likely. When Halo 3 arrived, a vast majority of people holding out on a 360 finally bought one. There aren't a lot of people waiting to buy a 360 now because the megahits have already released. Most people who wanted a Halo game bought a 360. Most people who wanted Gears of War got a 360. Most people who wanted the "big" racing sims Forza 2 and 3 bought a 360. Same with Mass Effect. There isn't really one huge title coming soon making people wait to buy a 360.

Now, with PS3, I'm sure a lot of people are holding out on buying one until GOW 3, FFXIII, GT5 release. Those games will be huge sellers and I bet there are a lot of people waiting on PS3 until those release. Yes, I know FFXIII is coming to 360 also, but in Japan you can bet the PS3 version will smoke 360 in sales and that PS3 sales will have a big increase as well.

2010 has games that will automatically make PS3 have a sales increase. The same does not appear to hold true for 360. I don't see a sales increase happening.

Natal needs to be a huge hit and Microsoft needs to lower the price of 360 again soon to maintain the lead. Otherwise, I think PS3 will surpass it.

Not going to happen and since when is japan a big enough market to consider it a big whoop. it like 10 percent of all video game sales if even that.

Microsoft has a horrible strategic plan when it comes to releasing games. I think the term is "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". Basically, don't release all your big games close to each other. Spread them out during the lifetime of the console.

I agree with the OP that Natal has to do good for MS to stand any chance in 2010.

i still dont think so. MS seems to be making sure it stays ahead of the ps3. considering ms makes money off of each system sold, i dont see why they wont lower the price if the ps3 sales come close

We will just have to wait and see, who knows, maybe natal may actually be a success :P

First: FFXIII is PS3 exclusive in Japan.
2nd: Japan is more than 20% of the WW market so no its not 10%.

RROD is covered by a warranty. There's no get your money back if this game sucks clause.

Sorry, "most people". Would you like a mathematical formula and several citations to provide proof? I think the fact that a lot of places are offering odst for 40$ (along with forza3) is evidence enough that it isn't selling much past the initial release.

I said it before and I'll say it again, 2010 is going to be really interesting in the sales wars. Too bad I'll be busy playing great games like GOW3, Yakuza 3, WKC, FF13, SSF4, The Last Guardian and GT5 to really give a damn about whose winning and losing. so if 360 beats ps3 for 18 months in a row its no big deal but if p3 beats 360 for few months then its the end of 360 lol. lets just wait and see until 360 has another real price drop and until then losing out to ps3 by few thousand units every month is no big deal specially when they are up by millions.

Plus in couple of years it wont really matter who is winning since it will be about time for new console. The whole point of console war is usually the more console sells the more it makes sures developers making games for it. Not only 360 is selling and sold well but it has highest amount of game attach ratio which developers love.

Developers make lots of games 360 and make lots of money from 360 crowd = more great games in the future

developers love working on 360 since its easy console to make games for.

combine those 3 together and as a gamer you have nothign to worry about.

yep, exactly, i know 4 people just in my class waiting for one of those 3 games to get a ps3. FFXIII will be insane selling machine especially in japan. GOW will be huge. and GT5, dont really need to explain.

TC had most of the factors, but there are others, too.

1. Project Natal. If that takes off, then 360 is gonna fly far ahead of PS3.

2. M$'s marketing machine. They're gonna go insane with it, especially whe Natal launches.

3. Price wars. We all know that, apart from the Arcade, 360's prices are way inflated (the hard drives, etc.). MS can afford to put the price of even their "Elite" packages WAY below PS3, and they would if need be.

Sony fanboys are acting like 360 is not selling at all. This is not the first time PS3 outsell the 360 and i remember cows claiming that 360 was doomed during 08. What happened next? 360 outsold PS3 for about 10 monthes. Im not saying it will happen again, but was pretty obvious that with a price drop, PS3 would gain some momentum. I still find fantastic that after PS3´s price drop 360 is still selling almost as good!
