PS3 needs a model thats $299, if not it will be in a distant 3rd place.

Dont get me wrong I like PS3 alot, also like 360 alot. The PS3 is just too expensive. Especially with this Economy. If you look at the last two months, 360 is crushing PS3 in US , Europe, and in even JAPAN. Thats crazy. They need a price drop. They are finally getting the games. I myself would buy one at $299, $399 no way. Even out of principal.

I didn't say 'two weeks', but just 'weeks'. The time may be longer than two weeks, but in those regions it wasn't a two month period either. :)

They could remove the built in wireless, stick in a 20 gig hard drive (unlike the original 20 gb which was produced at a time where ps3 mass production wasnt easy and was more expensive. This model would use the new smaller AND cheaper cell and rsx and would remove backwards compadibility, aswell it would still have only 2 usb ports). This would be a perrfect model for casuals

Most casuals would go after a Wii, or maybe just maybe a Arcade. I would buy a Ps3 for $299, but if they would use smaller cell, I wouldn't bother buying it. Just like I would never bother buying an Arcade.

Alot of people wont pay $400 just to promote blueray, thats why ps3 is so expensive, sony wanted to promote blueray.

They are waiting for profitability on the console. A price cut like this, however, will make it certain that Sony continues to lose money.

Well looks like I was right. Yesterday NPD numbers came out, 360 outsold PS3 by about 120,000 units. At this rate PS3 will be beaten very badly by 360. They will also start loosing 3rd party support.

I agree with many of the points made. Obviously, they can't sell it at a loss. They need to cut some overhead cost, such as only have a 40-60Gb HDD, and remove the wireless (just keep ethernet).

And it really needs to be under $300 at this point. The whole "it's a deal considering it has BluRay" thing is quickly passing them by.The "PS3 for a BR player" price sweet-spot is almost gone. You can buy a BR player at Futureshop for $200 CAN on special this week. So if I really want a BR player, would I spend $200 or $400? That $200 can go a long way towards other purchases...like a 360 Arcade:shock:

Im not sure what Sony is thinking. When Xbox came out and when 360 first came out Microsoft took a loss on the system also. Most consoles do. They make up for it with the software royalties. Sony needs to drop the price atleast until there numbers get alot better, then they can level it out for a while. I understand they want to profit on the system but in doing so in the long run I think it will hurt them financially alot more because of the software support they will loose.

You seem to be stuck in 2007. The PS3 isn't the cheapest BR player anymore.

You can get a 360 Arcade and a standalone BR player for $400 now. Chances are, by Christmas, you'll be able to find a standalone BR player for $150-$170. What do I need a PS3 for again?

All this points to the same conclusion: the PS3's supposed "value" based on its BR feature is quickly slipping by. They need to make a cheaper unit to stay competitive. If the Wii gets a price drop (it still hasn't, but aren't we due?), expect Sony to go into Defcon 5 mode.

Thats just ridiculous. Sony stuff the PS3 with stuff most people dont need. I dont need or want a blueray player, I also dont need a wireless network card. I prefer a wired connection. They should force people to get all these products. Also the 360 JAsper is coming out soon to fix RROD, and until then people have a 3 yr warranty on it, that is a non issue. Sony needs to drop the price. Also I know people with a PS3 older than a year old whose Blueray laser died, now there are $500 out. With 360 if you need to replace it, it's $200.

HAhaha. If anything 360 looks better. Games usually run and look better on the 360 because its easier to program for. But if anything they both are about the same in grapihcs. If ones better than the other, it's barely. 360 defenitly has better textures, PS3 may have better character models, like I said its a wash though.
