how did this all happen so quickly?

Everyone already has a wii and DS. Nintendo should have just pulled a microsoft and had all their initial consoles self destruct after a year.
It's dead now because there aren't very many quality titles coming out for it. I wouldn't call it a fad, because the system lasted so long(for what it was) and it has sold close to 90 million units. I'm not surprised that PS3 has managed to surpass it in sales. As for DS, the thing has been out since 2004 :|. Sales had to slow down sometime.
Just saying, even though the PS3's monthly sales are now finally more than the Wii's, it STILL has not outsold the Wii, and it probably never will. It's dead now because there aren't very many quality titles coming out for it. Maybe because the 3DS is out.. and easily out selling the PS3?how did this all happen so quickly?
Phaze-Two
Well that did no happen to the PS2 when it was the king or to the PS1,so he generation did not work for Nintendo as it did for sony, they haven't reach 100 million with the wii,and already sales stagnated, the PS2 reach 100 million and then sold 52 million more,i don't think the wii will do that.Oh hooray for the PS3! It's beating a handheld that has a successor on the market and a system that has a successor coming next year! It only took Sony five years to finally beat someone!

It is due to Kinect and Move, all Wii novelty and casual appeal has worn off
How is taking 5 years to actually compete in sales something to brag about. I am a fan of my ps3, however I don't like seeing the fanboys go crazy and shove in the other consoles faces when they finally reach to what the other consoles already did. Seems kind of sad.
But on topic, of course the wii and ds are selling less now. When you sell at the crazy rate that they did with such a low failure rate you will reach a point where everyone that wants one has one now and not many are having to be replaced. They could have gone the microsoft route that was mentioned and made them less quality so that they would have to keep selling due to replacements

lol.
It didn't really beat anyone though, it's still way behind in sales.
...
It's only natural that the Ds sales decline, as the 3DS is out and Nintendo will backing it now. The Wii is selling poorly this year because 1. Only a few note wothy games came out/ are coming out for it this year. and 2. It has been selling like hotcakes for the last 4 years. A cake can only stay hot for so long.
Though I wouldn't really call it an adjevement for passing a handheld in weekly sales. Just saying.
No need to buy a DS anymore since there is the 3DS.
No point in getting a Wii since the Wii U is coming next year.
Also, everyone who wants a Wii already has it and people who want a DS deffinately already have it.

Why is the PS2 still selling then even though the PS3 is out and has been for years? DS is in a similiar situation as the PS2 where it's sold almost too much but the Wii isn't coming close to selling as much as those. Seems to me like the Wii just isn't as "HOT" anymore.[QUOTE="mems_1224"]and yet the ds is still a much better system than the ps3mmmwksil
I totally agree and support this statement. ;)
Damn, good one. Also, lol at the 4th option.I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the TC was being sarcastic, fellas.SilverbondPhaze-Two is one of the few good Wii realists. PS3 was a slow burner that became a raging inferno of praise and top shelf quality. Wii was a here and now product bought largely on undeserved hype and cheap frills had at party's, taken home like a easy going floozy before being kicked out of bed the next morning.
If those buyers are anything like me, they are replacing their old malfunctioning PS3 model for a new Slim...unlike Nintendo whose consoles are pretty much indestructible.
I find it hilarious that some people (especially sheep that sugar coat it) still believe Wii demand is low because "everyone has one" or the market is saturated
That's such a cop out answer.
PS2 is very well saturated and has sold well over 150 million and STILL counting to this day, in 2011, almost exactly 11 years this month, next week.
The Wii frankly, is just a horrible console, atleast to the eyes of many. Yes, it was a fad and most people who don't know better (the non-gamers) were sold by the hype and at the end, those same people just don't give a damn about gaming.
I can't beleive sheep were too deluded back in early 2007 to even think the Wii:

- would have FULL fledge 3rd party support due to astronomical Wii sales
- was the best thing since Nuclear Energy
- would drive non gaming soccer moms, prada wearing, saks fifth avenue milfs, uncle Bob the contractor, grandma sally into dedicated gamers
- would have a steady flow of demand

Something you should note is that the amount of units sold between just consoles alone this gen is still more than what was available last gen (and this gen isn't over yet, the Wii, 360, PS3, PSP and DS will add a lot to their total units sold by the time the Wii U launches and kicks off the next "console/traditional" generation). If you add in handhelds the PSP and DS contribute to an aditional 200 million pieces of hardwardware much above the 80 million GBA's sold. There is a lot more competition on the market this gen compared to the PS2 days.
The system hit its saturation point fairly quickly, it wasn't suppose to last 5 years, originally it was 3. Even then you like to over exagerate everything in terms of sheep and wii so I'm not even sure what my post is trying to accomplish. :?

bleh. Was just about to post something along these lines.
at any rate, the Wii hasn't had any worthwhile releases in a while. Skyward Sword will likely move some more units, but after that there's nothing. Like we've heard many times before "Games sell systems." The problem that there aren't any new ones people want.

Yeah after the Zelda game, Im done with the Wii.Has it not occured to some people that the reason the ps2 is still selling, but slowing down now, is because there was a large amount of people who did not want to put down the large amount of cash for a ps3? Many people for the first few years of the ps3's lifetime were dissapointed and sticking with their ps2, or replacing a broken ps2 rather than buying a ps3. Now that there is a large amount of great games for the ps3, more people are buying one which is why the sales increase so late into its lifespan. It makes perfect sense, I am not bashing ps3 at all because I own and enjoy one. I may like wii and nintendo more, but I do believe that ps2 did as well because it was a better system that many did not want to leave for the ps3 as soon as possible. Therefore, it continued to sell even after its predecessor was released. Not the same situation for wii

Yeah after the Zelda game, Im done with the Wii.I'm unsure why you guys think the console has stopped selling units. Its still selling and moving units. Its going to be on the market for another year, it won't do legendary numbers but its gonna slowly burn into the release of the Wii U. It'll sell 100 million units easy.

The ps3 is definitely on the top shelf...collecting dust.
Wii U was announced and DS's successor was launched. Simple reason.RavensmashThis is the most obvious choice.
If Wii U wasn't announced I would think they would still be selling well. But since it was announced everyone is waiting for that.

i was about to make the same point but i think you nailed it for me.
The PS3 is selling more than two systems that are essentially dead? :o
SHUT.
DOWN.
EVERYTHING.
DarkLink77
Ah yes, but ze question iz, why did it go from red hot to "essentially dead" so quickly?
And dont forget we've already established that wii hasn't saturated its market, when you consider ps2 has sold 140 million plus, and it didn't even has 73h 8LU3 0c34N 57R4739Y going for it. Or at least it didn't saturate it's potential market, which could have been exploited to the fullest if the Wii had as good a game library as it's sales, like the ps2 and every single top selling console before it since the NES.
Also, I should have clarified before, I'm focusing on the Wii in this thread. I know I said "ps3 now selling more than ds and wii combined on a regular basis", but i did that to show how much Wii is losing by in sales to the PS3 on a regular basis now.
the wii hasn't really had any worthwhile software in a while.
As for the DS, well everyone already owns one. Plus it's successor is already out. Anyone who's trying to say that it's a failure is simply grasping for straws seeing as it already won a long time ago
Well since the Wii is at it's end and the DS's sequel has already been released that's probably the cause. And I think the PS3 recently had a price cut but I could be wrong.
