And when you consider that the strongest sales are usually at launch, and that hardware sales peter off quickly after about 3 years, they'll probably be looking at only about 30-35 million. Quite the diappointment after PS1 and PS2 both exceeded 100 million in sales.Number_1_Gamerdont make such bland assumptions, the PS1 and PS2 were great consoles you cant compare it to the PS3 in sales (different GEN ), seeing that 360 are over 10 mil already overall i doubt any next gen system will get to 40 mils but that is if no next gen consoles are released for 7+ years.
How many of the PS2 sales were re-sells to those who suffered faulty hardware? Or to those who wanted the new slimline model(s)?
Don't think that the 600USD PS3 is the only one we'll ever see. In a few years they'll release a smaller version, you watch. And they'll probably drop price a few times before the console is discontinued. I'm also equally sure that plenty of PS3's will break, necessitating that those poor souls re-purchase the system.

Just because other consoles sold best at launch doesn't mean that PS3 will be the same. Why is it that everybody in SW thinks they know what they're talking about? You have no idea how many units PS3 will sell. These topics suck.
So you're just assuming the PS3 will be $600 for the next five years.DementedDragon
No he's assuming that the price isn't the only reason peole aren't buying it, and that after awhile they won't want it anymore.
But even if the price drops so will the substutes price drop, It's going to be the most expensive console... and in the mean time 3rd partyies can't wait around for the price drop to release there games.
seeing that 360 are over 10 mil already overallyoyo462001
i highly doubt that world wide number is right. if they plan on having 12 million shipped by June (dropped from 15million). if it were true 360's would be very hard to find... which they are not. i'd bet some where between 8-9.5 million have homes. leaving about 1.5-3 million on shelves World Wide.
40 million in five years wouldn't be all that bad imo all things considered if people forget about the industry juggernaut the ps2 for a minute. That would be almost twice what the xbox and gamecube did combined. Then you have to figure in years 6 and 7 on top of that which would be another 15 million or so. As long as the userbase buys a lot of games so they can get more games and they buy everything else Sony is pushing that would be ok with me personally.
That is probable. Highly probable. I can't see it hitting market penetration similar to the PS2. Then again, Sony's greatest acheivement WAS the PS2, and man. What an acheivment that was.

The PS3 is currently predicted to sell 52.68 million units over its lifetime . The prediction has been quickly rising over the past couple of weeks with the very successful European launch. I think forecast for the PS3 will be looking rosier.

I can believe that. 100,000,000? Not so much, but 50 is probable.

crystal ball rules !AB_Uppercut
My crystal ball shows me Halo 4 on the PS3. Halo 3 is going to score under 5.0 on GS. MGS 4 will score an 11 out of ten. The Wii surpassing xbox 360 graphics.
Crystal balls do rule!!!
If you apply cow logic to this then Adam Dunn is on pace to hit 322 home runs this season. Anyone else see the flaw in this?
