I won't be getting one really soon, but I'm starting to look at some of the new systems. I'm like shooters and action adventure games and I'm kind of bored with what the WII is delivering. Is the XBOX 360 or PS3 a better choice. Also, do anyone know if Sony is ever going to lower the price on PS3s?

well if you like shooters and are into onlinegaming then go for 360 coz it simply has the best online service. if you only play SP then go for ps3 coz it has good shooters and action adventure games

well shooters its like killzone2 and resistance 1&2 vs gears 1&2, perfect dark zero and halo 3. the rest are multiplats for action adventure games, i can only think of uncharted for ps3 and fable 2 for 360, although that's rpgish. It depends what people define as an action adventure game, theres also ratchet: ftod and kameo i suppose, but they're more platformers. the price of ps3 will be lowered but when i don't know.

I'd say the PS3. In terms of FPS it's areound even, the 360 has Halo 3 and the PS3 has resistance/Killzone2, as for action games the PS3 is ahead with MGS4, heavenly sword and the upcoming GOW3.

Objectively, the PS3 is the better system over all.

Subjectively, if you like action adventure games and shooters - they're both about the same - however the PS3 has Uncharted and MGS4 which the 360 doesn't have anything quite like --- yet.

But, if you want multiplayer, the 360 has Left 4 Dead and Gears of War 1&2, which are both on the PC (Except GeoW 2), but the PS3 doesn't have anything quite like it.

The PS3 does have a few online games that the 360 doesn't have; Warhawk, Killzone 2 (I don't recommend it), and Resistance 1 & 2. The big advantage to playing the PS3 online though is that the online is free - you have to pay $50 a year to play online on the 360. Also, the PS3 has the most critically acclaimed online shooter - Call of Duty 4 - which is on both platforms.

I think it's pretty safe to buy a PS3 - you also get some of the quirky games that don't exist on the 360 if you're interested in them. However if you're interested in RPGs at all, the 360 is better.

If blu-ray doesn't matter to you, then get the X360.

I own both consoles and prefer the X360 by far. My PS3 is mainly a blu-ray player

PS3 :

-Free Online

-Better exclusives

-Strong First Party support (good for long term survival)

-Better Action/Adventure/Shooting games

-Reliable and superior hardware

-Unmatchable entertainment(movies,music,games...etc.) quality with blu ray drive.

Cons :

-Its expensive

-Most of the time does not get exclusive stuff

-Multiplats usually look washed out

Xbox 360 :

-Large online base

-Superior and more user friendly online service

-Great line up of multiplats shared with PC

-Pretty Cheap

-Does get good DLC

-Usually better looking multiplats shared with the PS3

Cons :

-Very unreliable hardware

-Lack in hardware accessories

-No first party support (Some times its flooded with good games on the other hand like this year its lacking them)

-Not many good exclusives

PS3.

The online is free, the library rivals the 360s and is a bit more unique in terms of the games on it, the hardware itself is better and more reliable and it looks to have the best upcoming exclusives.

I think the PS3. Not to say the 360 doesnt have anything, but Sony is the one pushing hard for quality first party titles. I feel like at this point after MS has sold off so many of their first party studios and stuff that they're only going to try to nab third party titles.

By the way, if expense is your only turn off, you need to look at what you're getting with the PS3 and compare it to the 360.

On the PS3, you're getting the following which the 360 does NOT have:

Bluray
1 Rechargable Wireless Controller
Wireless Adaptor
80GB Hard Drive

Now, a Bluray drive alone on Newegg.com is $80 for the cheapest model (Last I checked.) However that drive requires a PC to run, so your cheapest standalone Bluray Player is about $150 - if you bought one with the 360.

The Wireless adaptor can be as cheap as $20 on Newegg.com, but if you wanted one for the 360, they charge you $100.

Rechargable batteries for the 360 controller cost around $10, or $20 for 2.

As for the Hard Drive, they charge you $100 for a 60GB hard drive on the 360. On the PS3 you're getting 20GB more.

So assuming you bought a 360 pro with a 60GB Hard Drive for $300, if you went with the PS3 instead you'd be getting the top 3 items (Bluray, Rechargable Controller, and Wireless) which would cost you $270 if you bought the 3 separately with the 360, is only costing you $100 more when you buy the PS3.

Objectively, the PS3 is a great value. Not to mention, Online gaming is free to play - Tack another $50 on to the 360's buying price for the first year of XBL gold and you're only looking at a $50 difference between the two consoles.

Personally though, I'd wait until the PS3 got PS2 backward compatibility back before I bought one.

360 by far

More exclusives

Better rated exclusives

Lots of "console Exclusives" only on PC

Better multiplats

Better controller (opinion)

Better online

Better price

Well...the only problem is the reability which i agree its a BIG problem :?

BC won't happen. PS3 has moved on (I wish I had bought a launch 60gb). And while you have mentioned good points about the extras, the OP should first look at game library. While 360 has a wider selection, PS3's library is very competitive. Exclusives have been great for PS3, as well as MS, but I prefer PS3's line-up. So after considering software, then take a look at hardware. Which controller do you prefer? If you are going to play online with friends, which consoles do they have? If this isn't an issue, do you even play online? Live may have the larger community, and better experience, but PSN doesn't lag behind, and with a free price tag, it may be worth it......but this is for you to decide.

Another suggestion is to wait for E3, to see what upcoming games are going to what consoles. They also said that a price drop may be announced for PS3 during E3, so this may sway your decision.

Lastly, do you want to hassle with hardware reliability. Unfortunately this is a reality and something you must address. Also then consider the extra features, price, etc. I advise you to do your own research. Don't just rely on people's opinion.

shooters, they both have alot of shooters, and action games I'd say the ps3 just because it has infamous coming out and uncharted 2 and GOW

But the xbox 360 has fable 2 which is a damn fun game, and mass effect which I didn't like myself but alot of people did

it just comes down to which controller you prefer, and which games, I wouldn't really listen to hard to anyone in this forum because most are Biased to one system or another even if they try not to act like it.

Just look at the games and pick the system which has games you would like to play

A correction may be that early multiplats looked washed out on ps3. Currently they are about the same, in terms of graphics and playability.

Easilly 360 is the besat choice

- has the biggest game library

- the most huge games, like RPGs, a real vast lineup

- costs 200$ less than PS3 which means more money to buy games etc

- has a 10x bigger upcoming game lineup, and exclusives, console exclusives

- has the biggest upcoming games, huge 100 hour titles in numbers, endless gaming for the whole 2009 and even 2010

- best controller by miles for me

- best multiplatform game versions with most content too

- best online service

- play custommusic lists in any game

- best hardware, huge innovations in RAM design and GPU for its time, means huge new worlds are possible, something that PS3 games like KZ2, MGS4 totally lack, PS3 with the low ram and last gen GPU can only do coriddor like games like Uncharted, KZ2, MGS4 etc, has nothing like Alan Wake, Fable 2, Banjo 3 etc

- gets most of the best PC games, totally replaced a PC for me

- 110+ titles coming in 2009, most huge 50-100 hour games, huge games and works of art

For me PS3 is the best choice but I am also heavy into HD and Surround sound. I guess you could call me a Tech junkie. The XBOX 360 just does not feel next level to me and anyone who owns a PS3 knows what I mean.

I don't really, PS3 has the worst versions of multipltforms and its exlcusives use some tiny last gen worlds, when 360 has vast open spaces with huge detail in games like Fable 2, Banjo 3, Alan Wake etc

Both can do 1080p, only 360 upscals DVD better too and has a next gen RAM and GPU design too, unlike PS3

A better correction would be about the exclusives. Thinking that PS3 ones are better than 360 ones is only a matter of opinion

For me it is the PS3. I am a PC gamer and only wanted one console. Well I ended up deciding on the PS3 because it widens my game selection the most (all the 360 I am interested in are either on the PS3 or the PC). I also wanted a reliable system (we all know all to well about the 360's hardware issues). I also went with the PS3 because it's online is free and has everything I want. You ever notice the stuff people argue about here as to with is better (PSN or Live). They always argue about the fluff. The stuff I don't even care about. PSN has everything I need for gaming. I can't see paying for the extra fluff that Live has that I wouldn't even use anyways. I also looked at accessories and which system would be more expensive to buy those accessories for and the 360 cost a lot more in that area. I also liked the fact that the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player because I have a HDTV to take advantage of that feature.

I don't really, PS3 has the worst versions of multipltforms and its exlcusives use some tiny last gen worlds, when 360 has vast open spaces with huge detail in games like Fable 2, Banjo 3, Alan Wake etc

Both can do 1080p, only 360 upscals DVD better too and has a next gen RAM and GPU design too, unlike PS3

obamanian

.........can you please stop talking and at least try to act like your not biased and the playstation 3 has better colors in dvd play back

Better colors ? Now what do you mean by that ? Colors are about same in both when i play the same DVD

exactly, you see how stupid it sounds when someone says something like that, .......They are exactly the same while playing back a dvd.......

A correction may be that early multiplats looked washed out on ps3. Currently they are about the same, in terms of graphics and playability.

Sure, like Resident Evil 5, SKATE2, Fear2, Street Fighter 4, Red Faction Gerrilla, Riddick, etc....I agree that most play the same but its a fact they look better on 360.

A better correction would be about the exclusives. Thinking that PS3 ones are better than 360 ones is only a matter of opinion

I may have missed it, but don't see where it is stated that these games look better on 360. Again, maybe an oversight on my part. But for the most part graphics are comparable. As for exclusives, as of late ps3 seems to be throwing out more, but this, again, is a matter of taste which ones you prefer.

For me PS3 is the best choice but I am also heavy into HD and Surround sound. I guess you could call me a Tech junkie. The XBOX 360 just does not feel next level to me and anyone who owns a PS3 knows what I mean.

Easilly 360 is the besat choice

- has the biggest game library

Well we're using gamespot, and here it has 3 more AAA's and one less AAAA

- the most huge games, like RPGs, a real vast lineup

Vast lineup is an opinion

- costs 200$ less than PS3 which means more money to buy games etc

For the cheapest version, which doesn't even have a HDD

- has a 10x bigger upcoming game lineup, and exclusives, console exclusives

No, do your research, the 360's lineup isn't bigger then the PS3's at all.

- has the biggest upcoming games, huge 100 hour titles in numbers, endless gaming for the whole 2009 and even 2010

- best controller by miles for me

Opinion

- best multiplatform game versions with most content too

Actually they usually don't have more content, just less jaggies. Look at ToV and NGS2, way more content on PS3

- best online service

Opinion. The 360 has cross game chat whereas the PS3 has dedicated servers (and is free)

Killzone 2 is widely accepted as graphics king on consoles. And best hardware? Haven't you heard of RROD and E-74?

- gets most of the best PC games, totally replaced a PC for me

The PS3 also get's most of the best PC games.

- 110+ titles coming in 2009, most huge 50-100 hour games, huge games and works of art

Xbox 360 with 2 games equals the price of a ps3. If you really want a blue ray player get the ps3, if all you want to do is play games, the Xbox 360 has done everything gaming wise as the ps3.

PS3 :

-Free Online

-Better exclusives

-Strong First Party support (good for long term survival)

-Better Action/Adventure/Shooting games

-Reliable and superior hardware

-Unmatchable entertainment(movies,music,games...etc.) quality with blu ray drive.

Cons :

-Its expensive

-Most of the time does not get exclusive stuff

-Multiplats usually look washed out

Xbox 360 :

-Large online base

-Superior and more user friendly online service

-Great line up of multiplats shared with PC

-Pretty Cheap

-Does get good DLC

-Usually better looking multiplats shared with the PS3

Cons :

-Very unreliable hardware

-Lack in hardware accessories

-No first party support (Some times its flooded with good games on the other hand like this year its lacking them)

-Not many good exclusives

What he said... very straightforward, and not a hint of bias.

Well, I just bought a recently released multiplat last night on PS3, and I'll give you one guess as to my impressions of it's overall vibrance. So I respectfully disagree... I think the 'washed out' multiplat issue still exists.

Your opinion. If you set up your ps3 for full rgb mode, you don't see whitewash. I don't see a difference in my games, so I respectfully disagree. In any recent reviews of multiplat games, I have not read a disclaimer on which system the game is the superior version, except for a handful in the beginning (Orange Box), and as of late a select few (Fallout 3).

well if you like shooters and are into onlinegaming then go for 360 coz it simply has the best online service. if you only play SP then go for ps3 coz it has good shooters and action adventure games

sikanderahmed

Erm what? Both have perfectly capable online, so neglecting one solely due to online would be stupid.

PS3 and 360 are about as even as it's possible to get, for 2 different consoles.

Just look at game libraries and features.

I can't say which is "better", I wasn't given that authority. I prefer to game on my 360, simply because of the controller and I like the Achievement pop up more than the trophy one.

I do use full RGB mode, and I still see the difference. As a reviewer of games for a small website, occassionally I actually play both versions, and I'm telling you, there's a noticable difference in saturation. It's not a huge deal, but it's there. Take Riddick, for example. Can't get more recent than that.

I know, it is just that your post implies that you know what every PS3 owner thinks about his PS3 and 360

Sorry, but i have not seen a single game that proves PS3 is any better in hardwarem, games like KZ2 and MGS4 have some nice graphics, but fall short in many things like scale, textures, etc so it is not that i like them better than the huge detailed worlds of games like say Banjo 3

So, as a PS3 owner i do not agree that it is better, in fact so far seems worst than 360 in visuals to me

If Killzone 2 had super detailed textures and vast open worlds to play in, then this would prove PS3 superiority, but for now only Fable 2 has huge world with dynamic volumetric lighting, not KZ2 and not MGS4 etc
