We know PS3 is doing well in Europe and Japan, but could it be outselling X360 in the US?

I've been watching Amazon.com sales charts and PS3 has been outselling X360 almost every single day. Do you think that's just on Amazon or signs that PS3 is starting to out pace X360 in the US as well?

I'd say it's defnitely possible...maybe even "probable" considering the massive Blu-Ray push lately.

Amazon is a terrible way to guesstimate though.

After the two ps3 pricecuts, amazon had the ps3 at #1 in Gaming for a month or so but it still failed to outsell the 360 stateside.

So we're just ignoring the NPD numbers? Because last time I checked Amazon wasn't the only place selling PS3's and 360's.

November - 770,000 vs 490,000

December - 1.3M vs 750k (that could be wrong, but I know it's close)

To be fair, the TC is talking about the present.

Jan. NPD's are a month away.

Probably, from what is coming out these days it doesn't seem like anyone cares about long term video game players... just sell the people a movie player.

Most people are buying it because it is one of the cheapest and best blu-ray players, and because of the latest blows to the HD-DVD camp. I really don't even know if they realize it's a console.

Good post. I didn't know that, but that makes sense. I was curious to see if Amazon was a very good representation of sales patterns. It doesn't look like it, but it is interesting to see the PS3 consistently outpacing the X360 this month at least on Amazon. I wonder why it would be just on their site??

I do know, that's why i'm using overall sales that include everywhere as my support. I'm not using comparitive sales of hand-picked regions as you are.

They might know it's a game console...but I guarantee you that a sizeable fraction of the userbase doesn't care.

A $400 blu-ray player has a lot more mainstream appeal than a $400 console.

We could argue this for days, but the fact that a ps3 game has yet to sell a million copies (unless it's being packed in with the console) is all the proof you should need.

Oooright ok then, still though with great software sales in europe and japan higher than 360 itwould be silly to say it's just a blu ray player, you could only really say that from an american perspective, also software sales aren't all that bad there but just 360 is miles ahead there

It doesn't matter, even at the rate that PS3 has been outselling 360 it wouldn't be able to catch up to 360 until at least 2010. PS3 may be selling more per week but 360 isn't stagnant, and has over 6 million more units sold over PS3. And whom ever addressed the Blu-Ray movie sales vs. PS3 Software sales is dead on. People are buying the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player primarily and as a gaming console secondly. Way to go PS3, you are a better movie player then a video game console:lol:

Yea there's a world outside of NA...

but when the ps3 outsells 360 in JP/EU...it's by like 20,000.

When the the 360 outsells the ps3 in NA...it's by 500,000 :P

The sales-gap in North America for December alone was almost enough to make up the sales-gap in the rest of the world... FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. :|

You are missing my original point, which may have been layered in too much sarcasm. The spike in PS3 sales on places like Amazon are not related to game sales, they are related to Blu-ray's recent success over HD-DVD in the HD format war. If it was related to game sales, we would see a corresponding spike in game sales, which we haven't. There is however, a spike in Blu-ray media sales.

BluRay or not at least the PS3 sells for some reason, not like the Xbox which is selling because of just 1 title and lot of propaganda.

I'm a PS3 fan and don't really like the 360. But lets face it guys, America is a big country, by taking a look at the online statistics the 360 outnumbers the PS3 online players 5 to 1. I dont have a link to prve this but its a fact.

The 360 was winning much before said title. And I don't really know how you can claim Sony to be free of propaganda. To do so would be flat out wrong.

Your post makes no sense....

You're praising the ps3 and slamming the 360...for the SAME REASON.

GAME console selling because of Blu-Ray = Good

GAME console selling because of a GAME = Bad?

Wow...

Also, there are boatloads of quality titles on the 360. I don't even play Halo.

blueRay >= $300 ; 1 game= ?

to be fair M$ should give at least a free BluRay with every Xbox or they could lower the price under $100. otherwise paying an XBox full price is a rip off, so i dont think you shoulb loughing at those who bought a ps3 first, iwould be crying if i were you.

right, it was doing good. when there were no PS3 and wii, or somtimes when the ps3 was $600 ... whatever. North america + UK are the only places where its doing good considering the number of countries in the world..., so cut it off plz.
