1- you guys (gamers) have been complaining abt the price of the PS3 since ever, and here it is, the customrs want the PS3.

2- as far the rumors go, the price cut for the x360 will only be applied for the most expensive model (the elite), whereas the price cut for the PS3 include all the models, why will ppl buy a 300 x360 when theu can get it for 199 or 249???? i know, i know, the HDD, but i doubt this is a good reason.

3-the x360 has been priced for 199$ for a long time, and i think customrs are done now wz it, the spikes in sales are gone and till recent periods, the sales of both x360 and the PS3 are comparable (till the PS3 slim rumors lately which destroyed the PS3 sales).

4-a blu ray player for 300$ wz many other capabilities is a major sell point imo.

I jsu think there is more room to grow with the PS3. With all of the great exclusives that the PS3 is offering, the price cut is just icing on the cake for them.

We can only wait till the numbers come in to see whether the price cut will do anything, and if Microsoft will respond to them.

I dont think either systems price cut is better, since they are the same price, all im saying is i think the ps3 will benifit from it the most, thats all.

Who knows i think what sony did was great lowering the price and making it smaller and consume less power. Microsoft is gonna probably lower the arcade to $180 and the elite to $300 and if that doesnt work they will lower the price of the arcade to $150. But thats just my rational i just want great games and i think microsoft is gonna come with another sku for the elite and make a bigger hard drive.

Believe it or not MS is in a very good position right now. Its a wait and see proposition but say PS3 only is outselling them by a small margin, a large margin, or better yet it isnt impossible for the 360 to outsell the new ps3 slim. The 8.5 million console lead is a big one and will give MS the time it needs to counter whatever Sony will do. Right now MS is just waiting for the data and they put themselves in this comfortable position. Sony went out on a limb and went full force to win this gen, its only up to MS to answer back!!!!

If MS were smart and if the PS3 sells well in Oct, MS should lower the price of the Arcade system to $99 and MS would own all. But if the PS3 doesn't really pick up in sales thru Oct MS shouldn't do anything

You're probably right but there's still an 8 million gap for the PS3 to make up.

The X360 is not a real price cut. THis reminds me of the old game Sony played the first year of the PS3......when they reduced the price of $599 sku to $499.......and everyone was calling it a price cut. It wasn't a real price cut because there was a $499 sku that was already released. Just replacing one sku for another doesn't mean the console had a price cut. Until X360 cuts below $199, it's not a price cut. The PS3 price cut is going to make a difference because this will be the first time it's priced at $299. Anyone thinking X360 will match PS3 sales with their sku replacement program is nuts.

it would be the devil's act if the PS3 doen't sell well in Oct.......anyway, cutting the price of the arcade model would be the only move that can counter the PS3 slim.

I disagree.......they are in a pretty bad position if you ask me. They have slow sales now and with the PS3 getting a price cut, that will draw even more attention away from the X360. Honestly it's all about comp numbers from the previous year. If X360 continues to slid and PS3 goes up (which everyone can now expect), it's really not a good position. I'm not saying Sony is going to catch X360 hardware sales overall in 4 months, what I am saying is MS can't just sit back with a cigar in their mouth. This is why I honestly thought they cut their hardware to $199 way too quickly. Now it's like they have no where to go for price cuts. Sony was doing a good job at sticking around even with the PS3 being twice as expensive.....now MS has to make a choice of watching sales have negative comps or possibly losing money with another price cut (on the arcade). Who knows, maybe they will do a desperation hail mary in Oct if Sept numbers look really bad (considering it has a Halo game...you better believe they will be watching that). Just the general opinion of the people I talk to is MS is more intrested in doing bundles than reducing their cheapest sku (the arcade). As long as they don't reduce the arcade, Sony is going to wipe the floor with them (just my opinion of course)

Yes but do any of you really think MS wants to lose $$ for every hardware sale again? IT's like they barely started making money from the xbox brand and now people want them to go back to red lol.

Any money they would lose they would make up with LIVE sales, and HDD sales.

I dont think MS got enough space to lower Arcade 360 price anymore seems $199 is the limit for them probably they will only do price cut on pro and elite versions.

Meh, I will agree though that the Playstation 3 price cut may have the bigger impact.

I feel the ps3 price cut isn't going to have much of an impact. We already know $299 is more than most consumers are willing to pay for a console no matter what sort of bells and whistles are attached. Sony will see a considerable jump in sales from their price drop, but it'll be fairly short lived. If MS drops a 360 sku w/ a HDD below $250 this holiday season than sony won't be able to catch up at all despite another price cut in 2010.

I think the big question is "will MS phase out the pro, and try to compete w/ a $299 elite?" Which is what analist are predicting. If that's the case sony will slowly catch up to MS, and probably over take them in sales.

I believe MS is going to sit back and see how the lower priced PS3 sells……Then for the data make a determination on what(if any) cut they might due for the holiday..

"IF" MS does make a cut… the best time for them to advertise/push the new lower price will be the week before black Friday….

I really don't see the price cut helping a lot in North America. Where I see this helping is in Japan. The PS3 has less than 3.5 million units sold in the own backyard. As far as America is conserned, The 360 price cut will be just as substantial to the PS3s. The are people out there that have friends that tell them to get a 360 because they want to play together. There are roughtly 12 million 360s in North America and about 6-7 millon PS3s. Personally, I only know 2 people that have a PS3 and both of them use it as a Blu-Ray player more than a console. Now, don't get me worng. The PS3 will definitly see a spike in sales, but it seems people are counting out the 360 even with this being a Halo haliday.

I find it very interesting that everyone is considering this a price cut, when in reality the $299 Elite is just the Pro without component cables and with 60GB more hard drive space. Everything else remains the same. The fact is no one has seen a PS3 console at a reasonable price for the mass market. Now we have. We will see over the next 4 months for the rest of the year just how many people were waiting for the PS3 to drop to a reasonable price.

HaloIs4Nerds

First test for the PS3 Slim wont come til after the holidays because these are the most popular months for console sales. After that we'll be able to see if the PS3 slim can sale more than the 360.

2. The 360 has been the only system to show improvement from year over year sale. The very idea that it will come to a stop all of a sudden (including the price drop) is a little....well, you know.

3. Again, this will be another test for after the holidays. Unless there is a huge gap between the PS3s and 360s numbers in Octobers NPDs then I'd wait to make a claim like that. Also, PS3 has kept steady NPDs numbers this year...To assume casual games knew about a price drop and the (then) rumored Slim and that contributed to the low sales is a little exteam. Not to mention, This logic is a little flawed when counting the Wii. The Wii is the only console to not drop it's price and has outsold the PS3 and 360 in North America Almost every month (if not ever month) since launch.

4. This time a year the main customers buying consoles are parents. I doubt kids are saying "Mom, I want a PS3 to watch Happy Feet on Blu-Ray". Either way, I can't wait til 2010... More for games but also to see SW exploed, rather I'm right are worng...

EDIT: 5. September is a Halo month. Expect to see commercials and adds with Halo: ODST and "120gig Xbox, only $299" in the next few weeks.
