I'm trying to find a link, but i just got a text from G$TV.com saying that analysts think that a price cut is coming soon and apparently also a version WITHOUT Blu-ray! Doesn't make much sense to me, but i'll update this post when i can find a link. What do you people think?VideoGameGuyIt doesn't make sense. neither does posting such outlandish claims. Its one thing to speculate, its another to say that Sony will have a PS3 that can't play all of the retail games. Its false as hell. Its a anti-PS3-fanboy dream. Not happening.
Its not possible, PS3 games are Blu-Ray disks
/thread
This.I said it doesn't make sense people! Its from G$TV and apparently is was JUST an analyst saying this. So just calm down!TC, i've got your link right here. i'm surprised no one posted this toda. the article came out at 8am and i read it on engadget around 12pm. anyway, the price cut may happen; removing blu-ray will not. all ps3 game to date are on blu-ray and will not work on a ps3 with a standard dvd drive. unless of course sony puts ALL the ps3 games on psn, then they could remove the blu-ray but even still it won't happen because of the size of the games, the bandwidth limitations, and the fact that some gamers don't even have ethernet connection (high speed for all you 56k-er's).

Sony: "Here's our new $199 PlayStation 3, now you get to watch the awesome standard definition DVDs of people playing such games as.... Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Not only that, but you can also play your ENTIRE collection of PS1 games. This is the true power of the CELL."
[QUOTE="Lionheart08"]So you make outlandish claims even though you acknowledge you can't find the link? Seriously, why bother? :?cowgriller
how about reading the ENTIRE thread first before posting. maybe that way you can see that i posted the link for the tc.
your reading comprehension=fail.
Geez, shame on me for not reading every single post. Or believe an article as outlandish as the OPs.
Lol, this is so bogus, because if we really think about it, it won't happen.
Like or not, Sony is committed to Blu-Ray on PS3, think about it this way.
Customer X buys this PS3 without a Blu-Ray Disc Player, now all these games on the shelf, Customer X cannot buy.
Furthermore, there are Devs taking advantage of the extra space, since BLU is mandatory, and those games wouldn't be downgraded to fit on DVD.
IT would just be a complete nightmare, that's why this is funny.
EDIT : Oh SNAP, the TC is right, SONY IS DOING THIS. Here's proof, and this new PS3 looks pretty pimpin'!
You should not have just questioned this link, you should have outright rejected it. No Blu-Ray drive for a console that only has Blu-Ray games? That's instant indication of a crappy article. JosamaBinEating
EXACTLY. QFT.
This isn't even a possibility.
At launch would have been the only time Sony could have done this, and even then, SONY would have had to lift the requirement that all games on PS3 take advantage of Blu-Ray.
I hope that Ps3 is fully backwards compatible because it wont be able to read Ps3 games without a Blu Ray Drive :lol:AgentA-Mi6
Lol.
Yeah, I guess since they are taking out the Blu-Ray drive, at least they could add Backwards Compatibility.
Ooooh, I found a link of this NEW PS3 model without a Blu-Ray Drive!
It's got a cool silver paint job.

Okay so someone correct me if I am wrong please, I am more looking for information.
The Wii disks are a DVD format, but cannot play DVD movies
So technically couldn't the PS3 play blu ray games, but not play blu ray movies if they removes certain technology from it?
[QUOTE="one_on_one"]Hopefully it becomes true.ChiSoxBombersit wont. but continue to hope if you so choose
I was talking about the price cut, so yep, I'll continue to hope, so I could give one as a present.

Nintendo doesn't want to pay for the DVD Royalties, the Wii Hardware could certainly run DVD software.

Yeah, I wasn't going to tell anyone (NDA prohibits, but forget that), but SONY will be removing the plugs in a few years, the PS3's will be Bicycle powered. You pedal and play!

Excellent point. Maybe this blu ray movie-less PS3 can be a different sku and sell for $199 or lower. I'd buy one for a gift.

hehehe, its not going to happen Blu Ray is here to stay since HD DvD is no longer being supported, let alone taken out of the Ps3[QUOTE="habkeinbock"][QUOTE="spinecaton"]Okay so someone correct me if I am wrong please, I am more looking for information.

That sounds like a Wii game.
Wii-Hamster
or
Wii-Paperboy
:P
That's kinda what I was thinking, but even that doesn't make much sense. All the hardware would still need to be there, so the only thing you'd save on is the royalty... but Sony is the blu-ray royalty receiver I believe so that doesn't help any.Okay so someone correct me if I am wrong please, I am more looking for information.

Yeah, Nintendo is working on a version, it comes with a new foam rubber Cheese shape triangle (NERF helped with the design) that you slide your Wii-mote into. This Cheese-mote foam tech comes with a ceiling mount, so you can pedal and look at the cheese. The Cheese waggles as you pedal, it's way, way more advanced.
Stupid Sony, never quite ironing out all the details. I'll be darned if I pedal and don't have an artificial cheese triangle dangling in front of me.

or was that Wii-Fertility? *shrug* :P

this. it was the first post too. why dint the thread end? They showed make a model without WIFI, and no HDD, and make it with a cheap case similar to the 360 then sell it for $199
and they shouldnt waste money on testing it if it has problems they can just give the consumers a 3 year warranty
The recepie for win. In this post.
