I know it's hard to beleive - but putting aside all the petty issues - the Xbox Live experience is what makes gaming truly great. The PS3 is not at this level. i got my xbox 360 PREMUIM system off ebay last week for $565+$30 (postage)= $595.00, It's in perfect condition w/box and manuals, 2 wireless controllers w/ play and charge kit, all the cables/ Harddrive etc for the premuim system and 6 games that were in perfect condition w/manuals and the games are Kameo, Top spin 2, Ridge racer 6, PDZ ( CE Edition), DOA4 and Fight Night round 3..... its all good...... if you don't mind using Ebay, than I recommend it.

I've got my xbox 360 premium too from ebay for $900 RRP: $1455 9 month ago with some games & accessories, which it includes Oblivion Collectors Edition, DOA4 etc.
Glad to know I aint the only gamer in Oz on these boards...but i pulled a smart one and bought my PS3 in the US...now if sumone could just make a custom firmware so that I no longer have to keep my PS2 around to play the PAL PS2 games....

Lol as usual nz gets to pay hundreds more for a console. I went to eb games today and had a look at the ps3 titles they had available for launch and I must say I was terribly disappointed. Nothing remotely interesting. That price is definitely not going to appeal to all the casuals.

I got to admit I thought dropping £279 was a bit much when i got it, but its been worth every penny. Now to drop £425, hell no. Then again some people are droping £300+ on a Wii. Now that is dumb.

I agree. When a casual sees a $600 360 with free game plus a huge list of other games or a PS3 for $1000 with blu-ray(casual: wtf is blu-ray? a blue dvd? wow...) and a small list of games and no graphical difference that they can tell they will take the 360.
Mate don't worry too much about the price of PS3 here in Australia -- at $1000 PS3 anit goning to sell ... simple as that - expect price drops within 30 days of launch ...
 Even if SONY dosnt drop PS3 price retailers will ... PS3 will come down to 800 odd ( $820 mybe ? ) and then it will start selling ...

It's still cheaper than the UK version. 999 Aus$ = £402 sterling. Were paying £425 for the model, not including the bundle deals most retailers are hitting us up with. £425=$834 US dollars.

No, our economy is doing well enough, you could say the same for every other currency in the world. So bloody sorry if we're not perfect.
I doubt the the price will radically drop any time soon, they'll rely on the fanbase of the PS2, but even these people will get turned off paying half their paycheck for a console. You'll get alot of people wanting it, because in some people's eyes : Expensive = Good.
It doesnt really make sense to base the price of the ps3 in American dollars Is it true that Australian minimum wage is AU$27.36,($21)...AU$700 weekly everage($550) I dont know if thats correct but if it is...American minimum wage/weekly average is a joke compare to Australia.
