A while ago I realized something while posting on this site and it hit me. I'm sure a lot of you already know this but I guess I just missed it. First off I'm a Sony PS1, PS2 owner so I'm not a fanboy.

I was upset over the Sony PS3 price and got a 360 instead even though I want both so it's not like I switched and I had an Xbox before the 360 anyway.

I remember complaining to friends and people as to why they didn't include a game in their sale of both packages but did include a free Taledega Nights movie.

And I guess I missed it but they are really focusing on Blu-Ray first with this console. I mean the high price is obviously because of the blu-ray which they forced on their customers and it's a huge decision to do that because everyone around the world was shocked at the price. Even gaming shows like Xplay, Electric Playground etc... So it's not fanboyism. And then they don't give you a game.

Now the 360 didn't either when it first launched but it's price was cheaper plus since when does Sony have to follow their release plan not put in a game. They put in a movie to help sell their format and I just realized that and how crazy that is. I never played movies on my PS2 as I only wanted it for movies same as my Xbox and 360 now.
I know many people whose PS2's died from playing too many hours of dvd playback as well...

To me their going way too much into pushing blu-ray into their customers faces that I think it will hurt them in the long run.

You Sony fanboys can talk all about the great steal of a deal it is but honestly I don't want to a new format forced down my throat that won't be standard (if it even wins the war) in atleast two years if not 3 or 4.

I will still get a PS3 one day but this really pisses me off that they give this free movie to peddle their new format to justify the purchase of over $797 (Canada) after tax without one game but we get to watch a free movie though.

I just think that movie is a very very cold and corporate move that people would have expected from Microsoft.
I just want games, gimme games people not ur new formats

Blu-Ray is better for games too; Also, according to Market analysts, Blu-ray is outselling HD-DVD at about 7 to 2. I was very happy that i put off buying the 360 HD-DVD adapter (which is apparently the worst hd-dvd player on the market accoording to many printed and online publications) becasue of the fact that i was getting a PS3. I love the fact that i got a kick ass gaming system AND a blu ray player for 600 bucks, when a stand alone blu-ray player would have cost me the same.

Well considering Sony loses more per unit than the Blu-ray drive costs, they're hardly shoving it down our throats. They're taking loss to win the format war and that benifits PS3 owners with HD movies and more game content....... simple as that. PS3 even without Blu-ray still has very expensive components and would not be under $500. Plus Blu-ray laser diodes are going to be nearly as cheap as regular red laser diodes within 6 months, and probably won't affect the cost at all (Stand-alone players are expensive because of decoding hardware, which in PS3 is done by the Cell.).

Nah it won't be the death of Sony Playstation no way. But what it is, is the console that allowed Microsoft and Nintendo to get back in the game in a huge way and not only gain but maybe win this generation.

I used to think Sony will win this Gen for sure  in the end but not by much really. Now I think maybe Microsoft or Nintendo may win this Gen and MAYBe Sony MIGHT end up 3rd. I still will stick with Sony winning this Gen but I won't be surprised if I'm wrong now the way things are looking and how Sony has handled things and advertised.

What makes the PS3 a kick ass game system right now?

well, it plays games. its backwards compatible (COMPLETELY) and its home to a bunch of games i want to play. the 360 is kick ass too, that why i bought one of those, and the Wii is kick ass too, so i bought one of those. actually i bought two wiis since they are so cheap, so i have one in my room and one in the living room of my apartament for Massive wario ware drinking games. but i however do think, that based on components alone, you get the most for the PS3 for your money.

Blu-ray Is Winning  and making sony a profit so they can eventually lower the price,  and the reason the ps3 cost so much is also due to the Cell, they are going to be making it smaller to lower costs also.

That's assuming everyone who bought a ps2 or xbox played dvds on them which is not true at all, probably not even half.

Ya know a lot of gamers out there just like to do one thing, gaming. Plus HD or BR discs will cost more I heard.
I don't see how PS3 purchases mean every owner will be buying BR movies. At best half of the PS3 owners will, at best.

No movie enthusiast I know is going to use a gaming console as their Blu-Ray player. Hi-Def movies are aimed towards the enthusiast spectrum of the market, and every enthusiast has both formats already, be it a single combination player or two separate ones.

I never said EVERYONE who has a PS3 gets Blu-Ray movies , but the majority actually do. The ones with 1080p HDTV's just to experiment, how many Blu-Ray players have been sold actually? I doubt that many so how in the world else will Blu-Ray be beating HD-DVD's? Cows.

DMC4, MGS4 and FFXIII are not here, I asked "What makes the PS3 a kick ass game system right now?" and your response was "It plays PS1 and PS2 games.".

With that being said, I'm not going to buy a PS3 for one game, thats where this whole thing was going.  All you had to say was:

"Its not a kick ass game system right now, it currently only has one worthy game, but it will have more games some time down the road."

if sony goes from the success it had with the ps2 to 3rd place with the ps3. that's death as far as i'm concerned. and like cancer, it doesn't kill you right away. it's slow. a slow miserable death.

I realize that but it's all in the presentation man. Sony with this gen launch is coming off very erogant and weird.
Their ads on tv were terrible and I don't see what demographic those ads were targeted for.

Anyone who say that thread with the PSP ad that plays on race and mentions the new White PSP shows they are in a weird direction. It's almost like the PS3 comes off like those fashion ads and products like it's kewl to have, be popular and get this new kewl thing instead of just gaming gaming gaming which is why Nintendo is doing insanely good and may win this war, MAYBE. And why the 360 is doing so well too cause their in the middle between the future of gaming and integrating it with stuff but not going too far as to seperate itself from gaming and coming off weird like Sony has with their marketing campaign

That's exactly what I was saying, since the PS3 plays Blu-Ray, cows will now start buying Blu-Ray. By the time I get my HDTVwith HDMI, then PS3 with an HDMI cable. I too honestly will be buying some blu-ray movies.....like if they remake SW on Blu-Ray.....

Ok, I'm sorry, but this is just getting retarded already. SONY IS NOT FORCING ANYTHING ON YOU. If you don't want BluRay, don't buy a damn PS3. You have the option, so quit whining about. I'm amazed at how many freakin babies there are around here.

Another thing, since when has any company pushed their product "too much" Companies will push their product as needed. That's just common sense kid.

Another thing, since when has any company pushed their product "too much" Companies will push their product as needed. That's just common sense kid.

When you make the BR drive apart of the console it is forced down peoples throats you child.
Can I get PS3 without it? Can I? No which means if I am a PS fan and love their games I am forced to pay more for their new system because of their BR drive which is mandatory to be a apart of it. Atleast Microsoft gives you the option which I like, if I want it I can get it. If not then I don't and I can pick it up later if I dont have the money for the HD-DVD drive also at the moment

Blu-ray Is Winning and making sony a profit so they can eventually lower the price, and the reason the ps3 cost so much is also due to the Cell, they are going to be making it smaller to lower costs also.

Blu Ray is winning, nice. Cause DVD is kicking both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray's asses. No winner will win for years now. And how is Blu Ray making Sony profit? Explain this to me

The Sales of blu-ray movies is one, almost every1 who has a ps3 has blu-ray movies, and also the ppl who just have blu-ray players have movies.     the fact is  all you see movies on now is Blu-ray and DVD

I think the problem is that bluray and HD DVD may be very transient formats.  The future is going to be digital downloadable content directly to your TV.  People can buy and store movies and such from their living room.  That could obsolete the need for storable formats for movies.

Also  sony has rights to the blu-ray name and product, being one of the creators in a group of creators, so sony gets a profit out anyting with the name blu-ray

The bad thing is ... what will happen to the PS3 if Blu-Ray fails and doesn't become standard?  If HD-DVD failed, the 360 wouldn't feel a thing since it's not built into the system, but if Blu-ray fails, it IS built into the system, and that could hurt the PS3 in the long-run.

I respect the OP's opinion (everyone is entitled to one) but I feel that unless you have seen a Bluray movie on an HDTV with an HDMI cable, you really can't comment on how great the picture quality is. That alone was enough to make me purchase the PS3 (the gaming aspect is nice too :) ) I look at it like this: Sony has dumped so much into the Bluray. If they fail, they're finished. So at most, I'll be stuck with a loser console for one generation. After that, I can always go back to whatever company I please. It's not like I plan on populating my house with a million Bluray DVDs. But for the next 4-however many years this generation of gaming is going to last, I get to enjoy games and beautiful movie quality.

If blu-ray fails as a standard movie format nothing will happen. Blu-ray is the standard format for PS3 games. a PS3 game MUST be on a blue ray disc.

They could have made Blu-ray games with out any movies whitch would have made it $400 and i think that would have helped PS3 in these ways.

1. I'd think it would keep more games. Because Devs. would find more people would want a PS3.

2. It would help it sell. Who Well sense it would keep it's games. And Sony has a big fanbase that would be willing to pay at least $400 (it has a respectable sized fanbase that would pay $600 but not as big as if it were $400)

Sony is not just a gaming company, Nintendo in the other side is.Â
