in 2008 PS3 sales increased by 38% while 360 increased by 3%, this included the holiday sales and it's NDP numbers no VGchartz you can see 360 sales was falling behind from year over year before the price cut, so you can see PS3 sales not only increased it's catching up quickly and with a price drop next year it'll increase much more, so stop saying PS3 is dead or sony is going to discountinue PS3 but sales show otherwise.

Platform

2008 (NPD) 2007 (NPD) 08'/07'

Wii 10.16m 6.29m 1.62

DS 9.95m 8.43m 1.18

Xbox 360 4.74m 4.62m 1.03

PSP 3.83m 3.82m 1.00

PS3 3.54m 2.56m 1.38

PS2 2.50m 3.95m 0.63

Another 38% increase it would put PS3 ahead of 360 at 4.8852.

This is pretty interesting as well:

US spent record $5 billion on games in December

US consumers spent USD 5 billion on games, hardware and associated peripherals in December, according to the latest data from NPD.

The month recorded the highest revenues of any other month in videogame history, up 9 per cent year-on-year. Sales for 2008 overall were up 19 per cent, to USD 21.33 billion.

Nintendo products were once again the most popular on the market – 3.04 million DS handhelds were sold during the month, along with 2.15 million Wii consoles.

Microsoft sold 1.44 million Xbox 360's in the region during December, up from the 1.26 million units sold during December 2007.

Sony's PlayStation 3 sold 726,000 units, a decline compared to the same period last year, when it moved 798,000 consoles.

The PlayStation Portable is Sony's strongest hardware, with 1.02 million units sold in December, while the PlayStation 2 sold a further 410,000 units.

  • Nintendo DS - 3.04 million
  • Wii - 2.15 million
  • Xbox 360 - 1.44 million
  • PSP - 1.02 million
  • PlayStation 3 - 726,000
  • PlayStation 2 - 410,000
