PS3 Sales North Of 20k In Japan Second Week In A Row

Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 kept above the 20,000-unit figure in the latest retail sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Tues. reported that the PS3 sold 21,321 units between Aug. 6 and Aug. 12. The figure is below the 24,289 units sold the week prior, but represents an increase from an average of 12,000 in previous months.

Everybody's Golf 5 ranked as the No. 6 title in the top 50 game sales. The title has sold nearly 250,000 units in three weeks at retail. The sequel was the only PS3 title to rank in the top 50.

The PS3 has sold more than 1 million units to date in Japan. It ranks as the No. 4 top-selling video hardware in the region.

Sony expects to ship 11 million PS3 units this business year.

let's do the math shall we... lets say this continues... if it sales 20k a week that's 80k a month while 360 onlyaverages around 2.5k units a week. now that would mean ps3 would sale 70k units more per month.. and this is with ps3 not having any major games being released... 360 is all but dead in europe and ps3 sales are picking up stateside with july early estimates have ps3 selling very closely to 360 in numbers.. things are not looking good for 360..

I'm still waiting for my copy of Wangan Midnight to come in the mail. Curse you free shipping. Should be here tomorrow though. I waited a week after its release to get more info before importing it.

The 360 has always barely sold in Japan just like the XBOX wasn't a big seller in Japan. Actually the 360 is not selling in most regions like it was a short time ago.jimm895

but at least its an improvement i dont believe any xbox games sold 200,000 copies like blue dragon did for the 360 and hopefully lost odyssey will sell even more(it was ranked 7 on most wanted for famistia(sp)) the xbox is still doing horrible just not as bad as last gen.

i think that something that costs 3 times as much as the Wii and isn't riding a wave of positive consumer sentiment due to the DS is doing pretty damn well.

but they should report these things when they happened for longer than 2 weeks, its just not a good indicator of a trend.

I don't hide my dislike for the PS brand but I will applaud their recent numbers. I ask this though...are you, the PS fanbase comfortable with $600 being the standard entry price for new consoles from this point on should PS3 end up winning the gen? Or maybe I should ask this, where do you draw the line in price when it comes to consoles? I.E. - what is the ABSOLUTE MOST you are willing to pay for a game console? Remember, the Execs are listening.sinseers

You're better than me. My ceiling is $250. Needless to say I only own a Wii right now.
